Is the mainstream media trolling us, or do they genuinely want us to feel bad for gutterslug failures? That’s a genuine question I have after reading this awful attempt at a feel good article in the Seacoast Online:

Jonathan and Stacey Leonard have been living in a van with their five kids as they search for housing that will accept them. The cramped arrangement hasn’t been easy for the family of seven, whose children range in age from 1 to 7. In addition to being reluctant dwellers in their 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, they’ve lived on and off in a variety of homeless situations in recent years, including tenting in Stratham, living week-to-week in motels in Hampton and Rye, and staying in shelters on the Seacoast and in Manchester.

First of all, the kids should immediately be taken away from them and placed in foster care. No child should call a van their home. If you can’t figure out how to provide food and shelter for you family then you don’t get to have a family. Once you figure out how to adult you can have your kids back.

“This is why people have mental breakdowns,” says Stacey, 32, an Allenstown native. “I don’t know where I’m supposed to go. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.”

You’re supposed to be an adult and take care of your family. Pretty simple. Either that or use the free birth control that you can pick up from any Planned Parenthood anywhere so you don’t find yourself in situations like this.

Every school day, Jonathan and Stacey make the drive from their parking spot to the bus stop right outside their old apartment on New York Street in Dover. At the time this article was written, their parking spot fluctuated between Rochester and Pease International Tradeport in Portsmouth. They say they do it so their children can have some normalcy and continue to attend the same school despite their transient lifestyle, but every second they spend at the stop comes with a visible reminder of what they’ve lost.

“(My daughter) says it all the time, ‘Can we go home?’ We’re right there in front of the house,” says Stacey. She says she “doesn’t have time to cry” because she can can’t think about what they’re going through at the same time as trying to figure out a place where the whole family can stay together. That last part is difficult, as most shelters are overburdened and can’t accommodate families of seven.

Here’s what you tell your kids when they ask why they can’t go back to their “home.” You tell them that you completely failed them as caretakers and that consequently they have to live in a van. Oh, and let them know that Daddy’s gold chain and tattoos were more important than paying rent. Because that’s the truth.

The Leonards were one of two or three seven-person families that Coordinated Entry, the state’s centralized phone system for shelter intake and other homeless services, attempted to place into area shelters this fall. When combined with his firsthand experiences looking at apartments, Jonathan, 37, a Stratham native who has a criminal record, says that’s evidence the highly competitive housing market is squeezing out individuals who have several kids and imperfect histories.

Oh good, he has a criminal record. Seems like a nice guy.

“Some of the places we’ve looked at say they’ve got 100 people applying for the same apartment,” says Jonathan, adding one landlord told him they needed to make $3,600 to even be considered for a place on Rochester’s Lafayette Street. “You almost have to be the perfect applicant.”

You live in New Hampshire. People move there to save money because it’s cheaper than living in Massachusetts. There’s literally no other reason for that state to exist. Here’s a bunch of apartments in Manchester they could rent between $500-900. Of course they could find this too, but they’re lazy slobs who found themselves in their current situation because they prefer to give up rather than find solutions for problems.

The Leonards have found themselves homeless multiple times over the last several years, each time due to various circumstances. Those include car repairs they couldn’t afford, an eviction for withholding rent, having to move out of motels due to either the high week-to-week cost or the summer tourism season, and most recently, being asked to leave a shelter in Rochester due to a confrontation involving Stacey and another resident.

Yup. They got kicked out of the shelter in Tony Deyoung’s town because she got into a confrontation with another resident about who used the last of the Noxzema.

Do you understand how much of an asshole you have to be to get kicked out of a shelter with five freaking kids? The biggest asshole. And if she was kicked out, then she should’ve figured out something on her own and let her kids continue to stay at the shelter with baby daddy. But nope, she had to drag them down with her and live in a Goddamn van because she wanted to pretend that she actually loves them.

Of course what most likely happened was mom and dad got caught with drugs, the shelter offered to let the kids stay there without them, and they selfishly declined the offer.

The Leonards get by on food stamps and $1,123 in disability payments that Jonathan gets each month, which Stacey says is for Jonathan’s chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and his antisocial personality disorder. Stacey doesn’t work because there is no other option for taking care of their five kids, whom both parents say are the top priorities when it comes to money, food, clothing and comfort. It’s been a delicate balance for them for years, and one Jonathan believes could happen to anyone.

So let me get this straight. They get food stamps and disability checks because he’s “antisocial.” But yet he seemed perfectly sociable in that video. Nevertheless this prevents him from working. So why doesn’t she get a job then? Because there is “no other option” for taking care of the kids. But wait, what about her husband? He can’t work because of his “disability.” Yet he sits around all day and collects checks. Guess he’s too busy doing nothing to look after the children he created.

“My mother had a brain aneurysm, then my grandfather died,” Jonathan said. “Obstacle, obstacle, obstacle. It’s not easy, but like I said my priority right now is to swallow my pride and do this and take care of my kids, same with Stacey.”

His grandfather died? That’s an obstacle? Dude, you’re 37. None of my grandparents were alive by the time I turned 33. Because that’s what grandparents do. They die. This is not an obstacle, it’s life. But please, tell me more about how you’re “swallowing your pride,” by collecting disability and food stamps every month, and “taking care of your kids,” which your wife claims is the reason she can’t work as well.

In addition to the eviction, which the Leonards want to fight in court even though they can’t afford an attorney, Jonathan’s criminal record and prison tattoos, they say, are working against the family. Jonathan spent 15 years in jail after he was convicted at age 17 of second-degree assault for attacking another person with a box cutter. He says the assault came after that person broke Jonathan’s grandmother’s window. While in jail, Jonathan says he thought he was “a killer” and that he’d never amount to anything more than that because he “was surrounded by a bunch of killers” every day.

FIFTEEN YEARS IN PRISON!!!! He tried to kill someone with a box cutter. Yup, this is the kind of guy I feel sorry for.

He says meeting Stacey while he was incarcerated changed his “outlook on life” and convinced him to change himself, as did having kids. Stacey says she fell for Jonathan because she saw a kindness in him, and she says that love only deepened once she saw how devoted he is to their children.

Who would’ve thought that falling in love with a prisoner who has spent his entire adult life incarcerated wouldn’t lead to a fairy tale ending?

But please, tell me more about how “kind he is.” Did you think he was kind when he was punching you in the stomach and throwing shit at you in 2013?

Jonathan Leonard, 33, who lists his address as a post office box in Stratham, pleaded innocent Thursday in Circuit Court-Manchester District Division to two charges of simple assault. Leonard is accused of throwing a drink bottle at his wife, hitting her in the stomach, and throwing a roll of tinfoil at her, hitting her in the head. At the time the alleged assaults were reported last month, the couple was living at 286 Concord St. Police prosecutors requested $2,000 cash/surety bail for Leonard, who is subject to a 72-hour probation hold in connection with a 2011 criminal threatening conviction. Leonard asked for a break on bail, saying he and his wife have been together for three years and they have a 16-month-old child. Judge William Lyons set bail at $1,000 cash/surety, with conditions barring contact with his wife and barring Leonard from her residence.

This article was one of the first things that comes up when you Google him. It reveals that he’s a violent repeat offender who was convicted of a crime in 2011, and she’s a “mother” who deals with the abuse because she’s “in love” and puts her own selfish desires over the well being of her children.

Glad to see they did their homework on this one! But of course they only lie like this because they know they’ll get responses like this:

Newsflash – defending scum like this doesn’t make you a good person. It actually makes you a terrible person because you’re supporting the right of two trashbags to force five children to live in their failure van. They’re not “trying” to take care of their family. They’re refusing to get jobs and whining about how unfair life is. Anyone defending them is part of the problem.

Just FYI, I know John Leonard personally, before the grips of addiction got to him. It is truly easy to write an article like this, one because people thrive on drama and the downfall of other American people. Am I friends with John? No…but do I look down on John…NO…John is a product of the system. If you don’t want to pay his prison stay, don’t vote for laws that put 17 year old kids on state prison for over 10 years and expect them to come out better than they were. Prison is not a rehabilitating business. It’s for profit. So before you think John is the problem take a look at the overall bigger picture. I know this kid personally, he was never a BAD kid, just a kid who followed the wrong people and made a lot of bad choices mostly I’d imagine probably to fit in. Do I think he COULD have done better? Yes I do, 20 years ago when the state seen he needed help (which the state of NH now tries to do by the way). Furthermore no one tried to “kill someone with a box cutter” so before you do go and wrote these TMZ-ish articles, fact check! Ses like any asshole with a smartphone right now is an author. Let me give you a fact you should actually write about if you are so worried about paying for people in jail you beautiful government confirmed human being… “as of 3/11/2003, unfortunately at this time, we regret to inform you the sexual offender rate in NH is on a rise and that 73 percent of NH inmates released on parole into our communities are sexual offenders. (Question is asked by interviewer) “it is to our understand, the status as we currently know it, 20 percent of those 73 are on a minor under 13”

So turtlebutt maybe that’s something you’d be interested on writing about, something that matters. Something that directly affects the safety of our community, because I assure you, it’s not John Leonard.

So now I myself will completely clearify the misconceptions and the facts..
The Facts 40 new york st
Stay-left investments property manager denice atzet would not uphold her ends as a landlord by removing black mold, human sized Rats bugs from the neighbors so she was getting paid 3/4s of the rent i was with holding 189 couse she wouldent repair the dump..district court ruled in my familys favor becouse the landlord was wrong!
So she “the landlord” started the eviction process again and still wouldent fix the issues so we went back to court and the judge morrison ruled in her favor we appealed To supreme and lost .
Mind u we paid rent until her responsibly as a landlord and making the place a safe healthy living quarters were not upheld. .almost a year and a half paying rent no issues..
We slept in our car ONE NITE and still wasn’t beggin no one for a handout ..we were placed by one of thoes ce places to rochester..
So on saturday we got exited along with four outhers over a argument so we were told by city welfare they couldent help due to there rules that if exited from a shelter they will not help..we requested a hearing to dispute the fact city welfare dident house us in the shelter ce did and we won that hearing!
So as i said the newspaper can be misleading becouse we are not living in a car.
We take great care of our kids and have the money to get into a place and no pity for me or my family but criminal record ,eviction all plays a part in having a place for two years then having to put all your history on a rental application and having 7 people make it a obstacle.and please if u think i did that article for a pity poty ur nuts never begged no one .
I was asked to do the article by sally the director at the place we got exited from to just tell our story becouse there is a major misconception on homelessness we dont have our kids becouse were bad parents or some of these people holdin beers and using drugs.[sorry for there misfurtune] that just is not my family.
I relised before doing this pundits would put in there negative comments thats life but dont for one second think i was asking for anything to come out of it besides correcting the stereo type on homelessness.
Not everyone is a bad person .so what i went to prison that still was just part of my story not a shy person i tell it how it is and thoes who know me know me WELL..my kids have have too much.new everything not becouse i dident buy it all couse I DID!
in our 7 years together we got help one time with a late bill for $35 dollars eversource bill city welfare paid that it!
So whoever is that bored to talk foolishness about us shows what kind of person you are to begin with making quick judgement on slight facts so here are the FACTS FROM THE BEGINNING
FOR THE PEOPLE WHO HAD OUR BACK WE TRULEY APPRECIATE. IT …THANK U

Wait, how can you buy ANYTHING when I (and other taxpayers) have been supporting you for years? Including those 15 years you spent in that jail cell, all free of charge for you. I bet every kid was born on Medicaid, also paid by me.

You should worry about posting about child abusers, sex offenders and like i said if anything dont hide yourself be proud that your a moron with no life besides to criticize another..THAT YOU DONT KNOW…COUSE YOU KNOW WHO I AM WHO ARE YOU!!

If my math is correct and I’m putting the time line right he got out of prison when he was 32, by age 33 he already had a child with her when he was arrested for assaulting her, she also must have been pregnant at that time as well. Now four years later they have been homeless “multiple times” and have four more children to care for. Good grief, one bad decision after another with them. The only ones I feel bad for our those children who have to live this way.

They get food stamps, so they eat…however, how do they cook? They get a check but have nothing to pay for except gas, insurance, and a P.O. Box where their check is sent. Hmmmm…. If he saved up even half of his check each month and she got a job while he “babysat” HIS KIDS, they could save up for first, last, and security. I don’t believe it would be easy by any means, but that’s what has to be done. It takes work. It takes sacrifice. It takes drive. Without it, they will never achieve anything. Those poor kids.

““This is why people have mental breakdowns,” says Stacey, 32, an Allenstown native. “I don’t know where I’m supposed to go. I don’t know what I’m supposed to do.””

Well, for starters, get on birth control.
If you ‘can’t’ because you’re Catholic, maybe the Catholic church should be supporting your family.

Poor children, put through this by a couple of people who can’t figure out job #1 is to provide for their children.

Makes my blood boil. How about using your brains for a change and stop rubbing it in the kids’ faces? Plus, if they are in a van, why are they putting the children on the bus? Drop them off at school! Maybe even, I don’t know, go talk to someone INSIDE the school about what type of help might be available?

BTW – I hope someone tells them that in MA, if you are homeless, your children can continue attending whatever (public) school they attended before. I am not sure what the law may be elsewhere.

No surprise on the NH seacoast. The town of Exeter, bordering the mentioned communities in the article and TBS blog, allowed a homeless shelter to establish itself in a residential community. Those who spoke against it, those abutting the property, were vilified by the aggressive left. The lefties love handouts and especially love when YOU have to live next to those receiving the handouts. Seacoast NH is now no better than Newton Mass. No outcry over leaf blowers yet but that’s coming. NH sucks.

      Not me
      November 28, 2017 at 6:22 pm

I thought I knew what antisocial personality disorder was but I looked it up and was wrong. It’s much worse than I thought it was. Why would someone choose to have not one but five children with someone described like this?

Antisocial personality disorder (sociopath disorder) is defined by a pervasive and persistent disregard for morals, social norms, and the rights and feelings of others. Individuals with this personality disorder will have no compassion in exploiting others in harmful ways for their own gain or pleasure, and frequently manipulate and deceive other people, achieving this through wit and a facade of charm, or through intimidation and violence. They display arrogance and think lowly and negatively of others, and lack remorse or compassion for their harmful actions and have a callous attitude to those they have harmed. Irresponsibility is a core characteristic of this disorder: they have significant difficulties in maintaining stable employment as well as fulfilling their social and financial obligations, and people with this disorder often lead exploitative, unlawful, or parasitic lives.
They are often impulsive and reckless, failing to consider or disregarding the consequences of their actions. They may repeatedly disregard and jeopardize their own safety and the safety of others, and place themselves and others in danger. They are often aggressive and hostile and display a disregulated temper, and can lash out violently without provocation or frustration. Individuals are prone to substance abuse and addiction, and the abuse of various psychoactive substances is common. These behaviors lead such individuals into frequent conflict with the law, and many people with ASPD have extensive histories of antisocial behavior and criminal infractions stemming back before adulthood.
Serious problems with interpersonal relationships are often seen in those with the disorder. Attachments and emotional bonds are weak, and relationships often revolve around the manipulation, exploitation and abuse of others. While they generally have no problems in establishing relationships, they may have difficulties in sustaining and maintaining them. Relationships with family members and relatives are often strained due to their behavior and the frequent problems that these individuals may get into.
