We respect all constructive criticism of our blogs, particularly when it comes from established turtle riders. Because we publish thousands of blogs and no one is going to agree with them all. One criticism we have been hearing a lot this week is that we are picking on people who are not well. In particular this blog about the Ware Vibrator Bandits, this blog about the half naked teacher at Rice Square Elementary School who jumped out of a dumpster and tried fighting a kid, and this blog about a Spencer man who is suing his landlord for $500,000 for giving him gonorrhea and has called God as a witness to testify. Here’s some of the feedback we received in the Facebook commentary:
Clearly Danny has mental issues. It’s sad to me that you find it funny to make an article about someone who is suffering from mental illness. The mental health system is shit. Maybe you should investigate how shitty the mental health system is and how these poor people have no support and help.”
“TURTLEBOY, I’m one of your biggest fans, but your wrong on this one. The man is definitely has mental issues, and sounds like some kind of psychosis, we shouldn’t be making fun of him, or the fears he feels he is going thru. This could happen anytime town, mental illness knows no boundaries. I don’t believe he has any control over his behaviors. We shouldn’t be making fun of him, we should be praying he finds the help he needs. You were wrong on this one!!!
If he was on meds and somehow went off of them that could cause this. Also if the meds started to not work that could be a possibility but he would need to work that out with his care provider. Sometimes a physical illness can cause this time of erratic behavior. Hopefully he gets checked out and can go back to his job because people with mental disorders mostly can live productive lives with proper care
Not cool turtleboy.. as much as I agree and love most of your articles.. this man is clearly very sick right now.. just like people can get cancer or a heart attack sometimes peoples minds get sick as well
Glad you think that’s funny the family does not. Not nice to make fun of pp problems you just add fuel to fire. shameful
So the Ware Vibrator Bandits are addicted to drugs, which is basically a mental illness. The teacher and Spencer man are both obviously in need of help as well. However, what were we supposed to do? We had a video of a teacher popping out of a dumpster half naked and trying to fight a student? That was INSANE!!! Are we just not supposed to share these stories of public record because it might hurt your feelings? You’ll notice that in that blog we explicitly stated that there was a fundamental problem with how our mental health system works if this could happen at an elementary school. But you conveniently looked past that part.
We blog about these stories not only because they’re hilarious and outrageous, but because we want to highlight problems in our society that need to be addressed. We don’t pretend to have all the solutions. Our job is to bring them to the light. Society’s job is to figure out what they wanna do about it. So for all you people who think we’re doing this to be mean, what exactly are you doing to help these people get better besides shaming Turtleboy on Facebook?
Look, probably 90% of the people we write about could be classified as having some sort of mental health issue. So are we just supposed to ignore outrageous things they do because it might offend people? Do you not want to know about the Asian chicks in WANDA’s basement because she’s batshit insane?
Are we supposed to ignore that some guy jumped from the third floor of the courthouse because he didn’t wanna tuck his shirt in?
Do you not wanna know about this guy because he’s running a cult that preys on girls who are mentally weak?
Do you think that we shouldn’t write about Trigglypuff? Because no one needs mental health assistance more than Trigglypuff.
If you think that then you should probably find a blog with a bigger safe space, because Turtleboy might not be the place for you.
As a matter of fact we were sued for $153,000 by this man:
For suggesting that he was “crazy” and “mentally unbalanced.” Were we just not supposed to write about the fact that this OUTRAGEOUS lawsuit was happening in REAL LIFE because Gordon Davis is wacko? The guy from Spencer sued his landlord in REAL LIFE for $500,000!! He’s not going to win, but it’s a public record court document and we thought it was pretty insane so we blogged about it. He’ll survive.
Then there was this:
The only purpose, that I can see, in this article is to further shame Spencer for their recent bad publicity regarding the school system. This is not an example that should be used for that purpose. Just like in any town you want to pick, I’m sure you can find examples that are more fitting for your purpose in Spencer if you want too.
Don’t you get it? Bad publicity leads to good change. We were not shaming all of Spencer. We were shaming Kevin Hayes and Tracy Crowe for what they did to the students at David Prouty. We shamed them into submission and in doing so contributed to a revolution that overthrew Hayes from the School Committee.
Maybe this guy has family or friends out there who will help him out. Maybe they’ll get him to a hospital. Who knows. But I’ll tell you one thing – whatever he’s doing right now isn’t working. The guy should not be living alone in an apartment in Spencer. If we didn’t write about it then this nonsense would continue and there would be a 0.0% chance he’d receive any help.
This was my favorite though:
Turtle boy, i wish no harm on anyone, but you are constantly making fun of and bullying mentally ill people. My wish is your son will develop a mental illness and then you will feel the pain of those suffering.
So let me get this straight. You “wish me no harm,” but “your wish” for my son is for him to develop a mental illness? Oh yea, you’re the morally superior one in this scenario. Why stop there though? Maybe Turtleboy Jr. will get cancer. That will REALLY teach me a lesson about humility!!!
The bottom line is that life isn’t always pretty. At Turtleboy Sports we don’t censor our material so as to not offend your delicate sensibilities. We show the REAL problems in society and we do it in a way that’s designed to entertain and make you think. And sometimes these problems get fixed. But without attention these unfortunate individuals would just continue down a road that is clearly not paved with smiles and rainbows.
