So last week someone sent us this story on Facebook:

12647888_1675617462721530_1059163127_n

We didn’t write about it because quite frankly, something didn’t add up. Plus it was kind of a he said, she said thing. We don’t know how the kid got away or anything like that. All we have is the word of a parent on Facebook, and since we’ve been doing this for a while now we’ve seen that sometimes parents have a tendency to embellish a little bit on social media. Plus we only have so many hours in a day and can only write about so many things.

Anyway, WHDH reported the mother’s story on the news:

A Worcester mother says her 5-year-old son wandered away from his school unattended on Friday.
Vivienne Hanlan says somehow her 5-year-old son, Kyle Granger, managed to leave Chandler Elementary School and walk four blocks down a busy street.

“There’s six or seven faculty members in there. How did they miss him leaving?” said Hanlan.

Hanlan says she dropped her son off at the school and then went to a nearby convenience store to buy a soda. When she left the store, she spotted her son.

“There is no other kid that has that [orange] jacket. Please let it be another kid,” Hanlan said she recalled thinking.

Hanlan said she escorted her son back to the school and learned another parent had reported seeing the boy escape.

“They haven’t called me. They haven’t called the dad. No police are involved. They’re just out there wandering around looking for my kid,” Hanlan said.

Hanlan and the boy’s father, Arthur Granger, met with school officials.

“They did express that there’s over 800 students in the school and unfortunately trying to chalk it up to accidents can happen,” Granger said. “We put our children in the hands of teachers and other public officials to be safe and this was terrifying.”

The superintendent said the school opened earlier than usual because it was cold and that could have caused some confusion.

So let me get this straight. The kid gets dropped off at school, and then somehow gets out of the building and Mom finds him wandering the streets a few minutes later. Then she comes back to school pissed off (understandably) and has a sit down meeting with the principal to figure out what the hell happened.

So what do you need Turtleboy for? Sounds like it’s problem solved. Look, we’re all for calling out incompetence when we see it. But if you think this is gonna turn into some outlet to bash the teachers at Chandler Elementary after only seeing one side of a story on Facebook, then you obviously don’t understand what Turtleboy Sports is all about. The kid ran away. The teachers did their best they could to find him. No one got hurt, and it’s never gonna happen again. Problem solved.

Here’s what happened according to an internal email from acting superintendent Marco Rodriguez:

This morning, due to the extreme low temperature, the principal of Chandler Elementary opened the school shortly after 7:30 am so students and parents could enter the gym before students were bussed to the Y building.  Around 7:45 am, the principal was notified through the walkie-talkie that a staff member was chasing a child down the street. The principal immediately exited the building and met the assistant principal who was also responding to the call. A block away from the school, both the principal and assistant principal met the parent, who was visibly upset, holding the child. The child had exited the building to follow the parent who was walking back home. The principal, parent and child returned to school to process the incident. At one point, both parents were at the school speaking with the principal and they discussed different options for the child’s supervision prior to boarding the bus in the morning.  The principal apologized to the parents and they have agree to certain protocols to ensure the child’s safety effective Monday. Late this afternoon, I received an e-mail from a TV reporter indicating that the parent had contacted her regarding the incident.  I responded to the reporter’s questions but do not know if the incident will make the news.

So…like….what did Mom and Dad want us to do? A five year old ran away from the building after his mother. The teachers ran after him and were trying to find him. But then Mom found him first. And we’re supposed to freak out over this??!!! The humanity!!

Mom is still pissed at Turtleboy:

Vivienne Hanlan? But the name we were sent was “Krystaria Westmore.” Gee, I wonder why we didn’t jump all over this huge story.

Here’s the deal – something like this is guaranteed to happen to Turtleboy Jr. one day. Because little boys are mischievous by nature. And when it does, I sure as shit won’t blame his teachers. I won’t blame anyone really. I’ll just throw my hands up in the air and say “FML.” Because kids do things like this that stress you out sometimes.

Look people, Turtleboy Sports loves to publish public interest stories. But it’s up to you to understand what type of tip is worth writing about, and what you should just post about on your own Facebook page. No one cares that a kid ran after his Mom and was safely returned to school 15 minutes later. And we all lived happily ever after. The end.

P.S. They mad:

Wow, this woman obviously has an unfulfilled & possibly meaningless life. Screaming for attention is an understatement. I believe the Superintendent’s version of what happened, not the “attention-seeking” mom calling reporters and deceitfully blowing this all out of proportion. Lonely & sad really …

The bus is for the K-class, they cant stay on campus because its too crowded. They cant watch all the kids, and a 5 yr old walked away because they couldnt watch him. Sounds like the bigger problem is how many kids are there. I expected better from you, turtleboy. You couldnt see the bigger picture. You just want to make people feel bad for caring enough to do something.

“they discussed different options for the child’s supervision prior to boarding the bus in the morning”

So, did the mother walk the child to school, or was he supposed to be in the bus?

Losers begging for media attention should not get it. End of story.

What happened to the good old days when kids could mess up and run away from school without Fox news showing up? The mainstream media is completely pathetic. That’s the real headline here. Mainstream Media Mavens Fall for Unstable Mother’s Illegitimate Complaint Against School

She went to the store for a soda? At 7:30am? Likely a pack of smokes, but whatever, I digress.
City will have to shell out 50K but instead the parents should be told to home school the little tyke. This is what happens when you’re kids aren’t ready for school. Keep them home to watch Sesame Street.

The principal here Mrs Boss is an awesome lady and she really cares about the kids.

really cares about herself and her own rep. Which if this happened to Corenza Jackson their would be three pages long and a long list of problems. No school should be losing children, the misinformation of how they met to discuss a solution. Is more like prepping witness and making sure the mother feels as if its her fault. I love how its turned around on the mother judging on how she looks in the news cast. Regardless, the kid is safe, but not from the unorganized bully that is BOSS

I saw the mother and father of this boy on the news. Both look like complete unkempt nasty losers who were trying to get a minute in the spotlight by creating some phony conspiracy about a lack of supervision at the school. Mother and father attempted to shame the public school and make the employees there look inept. For what? What’s wrong with the TV news that they broadcast these beatnik stories? Glad to know there is at least one source of news that calls it like it sees it. Thank you Turtleboy.

I am surprised that it wasn’t “BREAKING NEWS”, because it seems that shit that used to be everyday, boring old news like this is now called BREAKING NEWS!

That fact that action was immediately taken by the school tells me that everyone acted accordingly.

If you want true inept school administrators, send your kids to East Brookfield/Spencer!
