Update on yesterday’s story about the woman who was turned away from a massage at Tu Moda Spa and Salon because she had stage 4 cancer:

Screen Shot 2017-03-26 at 5.11.47 PM

As far as I’m concerned, all is forgiven. I would’ve liked to see them apologize on their Facebook page, but the only person who was shafted here says it’s all good, so to Turtleboy it’s all good.  The owner probably isn’t actively involved in the day to day activities of his employees. That’s why he has managers. They fucked up, and how he handles this is his own business. All I know is, if I’m in the market for a rub, I’m probably going elsewhere. Just sayin.

And once again, this is the power of the Turtleboy Sports Revolution. This lady’s story would’ve been swept under the rug. The masseuse would’ve continued to live in 1930’s medical ignorance. Now we can assume he’s read his employees the riot act and they all learned something here. And we’re proud to have played a part in this, because learning is fun.

It does kind of twist our shell that it took a blog to get them to do the right thing. Plus, it doesn’t sound like the employees have had it explained to them that a koodies shot is not required when coming in contact with someone who has cancer:

Screen Shot 2017-03-26 at 11.11.11 PM

But like I said, if Karrie is cool with it then so are we. Turtleboy is way more into revenge and 100% victory. But we understand that she probably doesn’t have the energy to hold grudges. Life is too short.

Anyway, Tu Moda’s Facebook page is now quite the site to behold. It’s a testament to why you should probably call Turtleboy back if he calls you up and asks for a comment. I mean, you can pretend like what we write doesn’t matter, but as you can see you’re clearly wrong if you continue to believe that. But there was one lady defending their honor on our Facebook page:

Alright before we go any further, what the hell is this?

Yup, that’s the person I’m taking medical advice from. For sure.

Don’t even know where to start. First of all, how do you target a business in a “malic” way?

Screen Shot 2017-03-26 at 11.07.03 PM

Because I know I often like to take medical advice from people who can’t spell. Speaking of, Debbie Downer seems to be an expert in oncology massage. We had no idea what “lympadema” was so we Googled it:

Screen Shot 2017-03-26 at 11.24.42 PM

Yup, just an expert pretending to use words in context that she saw on an episode of Chicago Med. And she would know a lot about massaging cancer patients from her extensive training as a hypnotist:

Screen Shot 2017-03-26 at 11.08.35 PM

Yup, she DEFINITELY knows what she’s talking about. Definitely.

Plus, it appears as if this woman doesn’t have to worry about lymph nodes, which is probably why her NP gave her a note saying it was all good:

The Debster wasn’t done though….

Screen Shot 2017-03-26 at 11.02.54 PM

Except the woman had a note from her nurse practitioner. She was completely safe for a massage. So yea, wrong again Debbie. Oh well, once you lose an argument and look dumb you can always resort to this:

Screen Shot 2017-03-26 at 11.02.37 PM

We call this a “sad hominem” attack. It’s what you do when you’re sad after being on the receiving end of an ad hominem attack from turtle riders.

Here’s the thing – real massage therapists always seemed to disagree with the hypnotist:

As do cancer survivors

On a positive note, this story really brought out the best in everyone, as many lined up and offered their massage services to this woman:

The bottom line is that we all learned a valuable lesson here. The masseuse learned that she was stupid to believe lung cancer could spread because of a massage. The managers learned that it was dumb to ignore Turtleboy like we don’t matter. The owner learned that he needs to get his employees to get their shit together. Karrie Nason learned that turtle riders will jump at the opportunity to help someone in need. And Debbie Downer realized that it is unwise to poke the turtle.

We urge you to support the Turtleboy Sponsors by doing business with them. Without them none of this is possible. Click on any of them to check out their sites or Facebook pages.

This is why I love the #TurtleboyFamily. Good, Bad, Ugly or Indifferent when someone is in need, we’re always there for one another.

Hypnotists are a dime a dozen, they usually slap some “New Age” or “Alternative Medicine” vibe to it too. She has no descent credentials, education or licensing to speak about what specifics of cancer are especially in this case.

    These people are thieves.

I had to cancel a Monday morning appointment due to freezing rain making my driveway a sheet of glare ice. They charged me $267 cancellation fee even though it was a weather-related incident. In all the years I’ve been doing business with salons, dentists, doctors, and other professionals, I’ve never been ripped off so badly by anyone.

No offer to reschedule, rebook, or try to fix anything.

Looks like all of the horrible reviews are right on the money.

      FYI.

I just received a phone call from Tu Moda management in response to my letter.

They refunded the entire no-show fee, and apologized profusely for the charge. They also addressed all of the concerns that I included in my letter, and were incredibly sincere, polite, and honest.

I’m MTF transgender, and was concerned about the quality of service that I was going to receive. They related that they had dealt with trans clients before, and welcomed their business. They indicated that they were professional, and would have no issues with anyone who showed different gender presentations.

They did the right thing, and addressed the issue.

If you can’t do much as Lymphedema correctly and your eyebrows look like templates for long division, you probably shouldn’t be giving any medical advice. Just sayin’.

So much as spell Lymphedema* – stupid iPhone skipping

I am the owner of Amethyst Point Wellness Spa just down the street from Tu Moda. I have been a Licensed Massage Therapist for 13 years (please stop using the term masseuse. It’s not 1978).
We treat people with cancer all the time. While a doctors note is always a plus, we do not require it. I also let the therapists make their own decisions about what physical conditions they are comfortable working on. My words to my staff have always been if you are not comfortable giving someone a massage that is dealing with a difficult illness then you should be prepared to offer them another type of treatment. In most cases they made their appointment because they are in a tough place physically & emotionally. They waited all day for that treatment. DO NOT LET THEM WALK AWAY WITHOUT SOMETHING. Depending on what massage school you went to or what school of thought you subscribe to & read, you are entitled to make your own decisions concerning this topic.
However, there is NO evidence that massage spreads cancer. As one of your readers stated, a deep massage during an illness is probably not a good idea. You’re already not feeling good & maybe adding post deep massage muscle soreness to that wouldn’t be the best plan. Sometimes folks going through chemo &/or radiation feel like they need something but don’t want to be touched. Reiki or other energy work is a great alternative & I have personally seen people benefit greatly from that. Also, lymphatic massage can help as well.
Not to dis my fellow Wormtown businesses, but I would like people to make sure they do a little research prior to choosing an LMT. Also, you must mention health issues to them up front for several reasons. 1. Obviously because of events like this. 2. A massage isn’t just a luxurious treatment. It has effects on your body. A massage effects all the systems of your body. You must sign a health history & let us know you have blood clots, heart problems, skin issues, breathing problems, etc. Tell us what you can over the phone when you make your appointment. We will put you with the right therapist.

I’m not entirely sure what the outcome here was with Jose. He gave her an apology & gift card? As far as customer service goes that’s about all he can do after the fact. The manager & the therapist that let this happen need to go back to school.

The manager- if it’s still the same person from a few years back- has an attitude like she is bothered that she needs to share the air she breathes with you. I’m sure she could care less about this entire scenario.

“Masseuse” is female, “Masseur” is male. Not the end of the world, toughen up, don’t be so sensitive too.

The fact that you subscribe to the opinion that Reiki is an actual thing disqualifies everything else you have said, unfortunately. Too bad – you actually sounded sane until that part.

Judging from that faux classy picture, I’m guessing Debbie’s medical knowledge comes from Grey’s Anatomy – not Chicago Med.

Lindsey Silva is an incredible nurse and one of the strongest cancer survivors I’ve ever known. She’s probably the best person to talk about this.

On the other hand, Ryan Brownell David. She got knocked up her senior year at SPM and fell of the education radar into crazy town. I wouldn’t use her as a source of info. Girl is whacked in the head and her massage career has had some dirt and beef about how legit her training is and some injuries she made worse. Talk about the revenge type…And not TBS style with meaning either. More ratchet, as you can probably see by the duckface. No mentally stable person makes duckface.

Oh look Ryan she also has Rashad Minor on her friends list. That’s a good person to be friends with.

I’m sure if we zoom close enough we would spot some stray ball sack hair making its debut. The weird curly kind.

Still sexier than my (ex?) wife Mic. Definitely would, despite not knowing what I’ll find under that skirt.
