A week or so ago we published a story about one Fall River landlord who put some hoarder tenants on blast for the squalor they left behind after eviction. 

After seeing the response the story received, one Turtlerider got in touch with us about a similar story, and asked us for help getting some justice.

This is a long one so get a beer and make yourself comfortable.

Charlene Zdanowicz, known on Facebook as “Charlene Rena,” might be one of the most brazen dumperslugs we’ve ever seen. She’s a Taunton transplant that slithered her way to Plymouth.

Charlene and her two kids moved in with her boyfriend Paul Colameco, and the boyfriend’s mother Paula Colameco. They handed the landlord, Andy Costa, three months rent, including a $130 stipend from Father Bill’s. (That would be the people who run the homeless shelters in Quincy and Brockton.) Charlene wrote, and bounced, checks for the two months after that for the Forrest Ave Townhouse in Plymouth and then just quit trying to pretend she was going to pay. She didn’t even make an effort. Just started abusing the housing laws.

Andy and his girlfriend Janice started eviction proceedings to get Charlene’s brood out but, because of the laws, it took him months and months to get them evicted. So long, in fact, that Charlene left owing more than $27K in back rent, from living for free for TWO YEARS, and other expenses which she has defaulted on the court mandates payments even to this day.

So, let’s jump back a bit to while these all star slime balls were living completely free.
Paul, at some point during the squatting, dies of a heroin overdose. Charlene, who I’m guessing was eager to get Paul’s mom out of her free digs, had the woman start a GoFundMe (since removed) to finance a new place to live. Classy.

 


And another one so her daughter could get some cash out of it too…

Once Paula got the boot, Charlene started posting on local town pages saying that she was looking to rent out two rooms, at the tune of $500 a pop, to anyone who would take them. What she ended up with was two homeless guys subletting the spot and living with her two young kids. So, she’s collecting $1k extra every month and still not paying rent.

The hot water heater crapped out at one point, and because she couldn’t call the landlords to fix it like a normal person, she paid for that to be replaced instead of just coughing up the rent money.

Months go by, and when the eviction had finally come through, Scumfortable Charlene was scurrying to pack all her shit and left without telling anyone. It was too much of a pain in the ass to finish so she just left all her shit there, including her cat which she abandoned.

One of the bums she had move in didn’t get the memo. He was sound asleep on the living room floor when Andy and Janice walked in. Janice said she thought the guy was dead. Charlene and her kids were gone but what was left behind was epic.

Mind you, there were two kids living in this filth.

Andy and Janice had to sue Charlene to get back all the rent and the cost of all the damage done. Much to their surprise, they found out that Charlene had used Andy’s information to turn on the gas and electric and hadn’t paid it the whole time she was living there. So, they had to sue for that too.

The court ruled in their favor and Charlene was ordered to pay them back. It didn’t take her long to cry poor mouth and start defaulting on that too.

Meanwhile, Charlene found herself a new job, a fiancé, and some new digs. She’s busy posting all over social media about her trips to the Bahamas, her new clothes, getting her nails done, tattoos, and going out to eat at least three times a week.

The final straw for Janice and Andy was when they saw Charlene start advertising her business all over the Plymouth Connect page. They contacted us for a good old fashion shaming since they hadn’t seen a dime out of her.

So, Charlene, instead of going out for pizza and taking vacations, why don’t you cough up the cash to the people you robbed? It takes a serious lurch to do what you did to these people. You’re the reason that so many families have to spend MONTHS saving to try to get a place. Well, the good news is that if you keep up stealing money from good people you will have a permanent residency behind bars.

    I am so confused by Massachusetts eviction laws. I literally do not care , f I own a house , I rent it to someone , they don’t pay, I will and have put their shit on the lawn. Period. Sue me then. I have the deed to the house and it is not my job to provide a roof over yours for free. There are people that do this with purpose and they live this way. Not gonna happen to me. I would burn the place down before some scumbag is gonna wreck it in two years. That’s just bullshit and not even a little right. The laws promote assholes. However if you are a slumlord you may deserve it, I don’t and most landlords I know , don’t deserve it.

    It’s out of control, years ago it was nowhere near as bad. The scammers were doing stuff, but it was more of a underground thing, very hush-hush as a rule. Now, it’s right out in the open and it gets worse by the day.

    For whom it may concern. If you ever have the fortune/misfortune of owning a rental property here is some free advice. If the potential tenant lists their current landlord as a reference and when contacted the landlord says “Yeah, they are great people. I’m sorry to see them go.”. What they are really thinking is there is a God and these dirt bags are finally out of my property.

Nooooooo. He’d rather shack up with some random mouse in a cheap hotel somewhere instead of taking his trusty pal along who’s been with him since the beginning of time.

    The sad truth is that pigs like this almost never face any real consequences for their crimes. The landlord will never get paid and continuing to chase her for money will only cost him more money – money that he will never recoup. So unfortunately, all he can do is cut bait and move on…and hope that somewhere down the line this court judgement will show up on a credit check or background check and screw with her life in some way that he will never get the satisfaction of knowing about.

    I understand tenants rights and all, but this state goes too far to protect tenants, at the expense of landlords. It should not take 2 years to evict a non-payment tenant. That is just unfair. And the landlord likely is expected to store, at his expense, and possessions of value. Ugh…I’m getting mad just thinking about it.

    Topic Specific – A few of my friends got into the landlord business with the purchase of three deckers. Worcester is chuck full of them especially in the lower east side neighborhoods. They all have their war stories about tenants deciding to say fuck it. Why pay rent when I don’t really have to? And like you say getting them out is no easy thing to do.

    A couple of my buddies had to go bankrupt on their respective three decker properties and they were miserable. That is one business venture I will never get into. Not at that level. Other types of rental properties geared toward people of means is much more preferred and safer like a nice three bedroom rental ranch down in Chatham.

      In addition to my previous statement, I also own several properties. I travel to check up on my tenants on my brand new Harley Davidson. It’s the same motorcycle I used to protect the mean streets of Worcester! Wait… no forget it, I used my 10 speed bicycle. I also own a Verizon store, I’m basically a person with 7 different careers.

      Anyone want to make their own badge? I have leftover felt, Elmer’s glue, and some broken crayons I can share.

    This is another great example of this state fucking over hard working people to protect slobs who take advantage of every handout, loophole, and law that ENABLES them to act like the world revolves around them. Want to be a landlord? Get the hell out of MA for your sake.
