New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola is catching grief from his neighbors over a temporary carport.

Amendola erected the metal structure behind his 1774 home in Providence’s College Hill Historic District last month so that he can get to practice on time in a snowstorm. The home sits on Benefit Street, a hillside thoroughfare filled with colorful restored clapboard homes featured on countless postcards. Neighbors complain the carport is a blemish on the community’s atmosphere.

He is renting the home and applied to the city last month for permission to erect the carport for the duration of the season. It is supposed to come down in February.

In the meantime, neighbors see an eyesore.

‘‘It’s a simple utilitarian structure, but if you had tons of these around the neighborhood, it would significantly detract from the historic quality and aesthetic appearance of the Benefit Street neighborhood,’’ said Tim More, who has lived on the street for 45 years.

It also can be tough to get out of the driveway. Ray Rickman, who has lived up the hill from Amendola’s house for 31 years, says he was unable to get his car out three times last winter.

But he wondered why Amendola couldn’t just do what he does: buy a $40 canvas to put over his car and rely on a neighbor with snow-removal equipment to dig him out. Or better yet, hire a snow-removal service. Amendola signed a $28.5 million, five-year contract with the Patriots in 2013.

‘‘Wealthy people like to buy things and have their way,’’ Rickman said. ‘‘Historic districts are fragile.’’

Still he calls it a ‘‘minor sin’’ that will soon be fixed when the season is over and the carport removed. And he said he is thrilled that Amendola is living down the street.

‘‘I hope that he’ll stay. This city needs celebrities,’’ Rickman said. ‘‘I think it’s cool. I think it would cooler if Tom Brady lived here. I would offer to help him shovel his snow.’’

What the hell is wrong with these people? You have a member of the greatest team to ever play the game living in your neighborhood, and you’re busting his balls over a temporary carport? How bout, get over yourselves? How bout that? I hope Amendildo starts throwing all-night ragers, complete with hookers passed out on the lawn and middle aged men streaking through the streets at 2 AM. Just to send a message.

And why is this guy pretending to be a Patriots fan? Clearly he doesn’t understand how things work with this team. You don’t come to practice late. Ever. Just ask Adalius Thomas, Randy Moss, and Jonas Gray how that story ends. Anyone who values their “historic district” more than the Patriots well being can go ahead and move to a loser city where players can show up late to practice when it snows. Because in case these idiots haven’t seen, we’re kind of having this injury problem this year. If Amendildo is late to practice ONCE, he’s done. Then we have to watch Drops Lafell and #14 make Brady’s job impossible in the playoffs. For the good of Patriots nation these people should be fed to the Chinese.

Here’s another question – why is Danny Amendola living in a neighborhood full of butthurts? Dude, you’re making an insane amount of money to play in half the games. You don’t have to RENT an ancient home in a packed and crowded neighborhood in Providence. You can buy a real home, and have your own land that you can do whatever you want on, in pretty much any town in or around Foxboro. Midfield, Sharon, Easton, Millis – you name it. These are places the Turtleboy family will never be welcome, but it’s available to you. Hell, Aaron Hernandez had a mansion and killed a million people without anyone noticing. I don’t understand his decision making.

And how bout GoLocalProvidence printing Amendildo’s address for the masses to see? What a low, low move. Even for Josh Fenton. Only a matter of time until he pretends to sue everyone who tries writing about this story. After all, Josh Fenton owns the news. Hey Josh, we’re still using this picture for no reason, except for the fact that we can. Let me know when that date in federal court is. Still waiting on the summons.
