Remember when the NFL made a federal case (literally) out of slightly deflated footballs? Remember when they tried to pretend like PSI mattered and affected the outcomes of games? Remember when they pretended to care? Well apparently they care so much about the integrity of footballs used in games that the refs just plain forgot to bring them to Gillette Stadium for their divisional round game with the Chiefs on Saturday:

At approximately 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Massachusetts State police at Logan airport were notified by the Hyatt Hotel on airport property that the officials at Gillette Stadium for that afternoon’s Patriots’ playoff game had left official, specially designated footballs and pressure gauges behind at the hotel. The hotel had been contacted by the NFL after it realized the equipment had been left behind.

State Police contacted an NFL security official at Gillette Stadium. NFL security requested State Police assistance in bringing the footballs and gauges to the stadium. The footballs in question are referred to as K-balls, short for kicking balls. They are the official footballs provided by the league for use in kicking plays.

A hotel employee retrieved the equipment. State Police Detective Lieutenant Thomas Coffey, who was on duty at Troop F that afternoon, along with the hotel employee, drove the K-balls and gauges to Gillette Stadium, arriving at approximately 3:30 p.m., and turned them over to the NFL.

HAHHAHAA. Yup. PSI definitely matters. And NFL referees are always on top of their game. I mean, it’s not like they did this during a regular season game. It’s a freaking playoff game!!! And of all the stadiums to do this at, they chose to forget them at the very scene of the alleged deflategate crime – Foxboro.

Look, I know an NFL setup when I see one. It’s only a matter of time until we get the report back that the Massachusetts State Police deflated these balls on the way to the game. Why not? Mistrust of the police is so hot right now. If the NFL could convince millions of morons to believe that two ballboys orchestrated a massive cheating scandal, think of what the State Police could do. Any neutral person can look at this objectively and see that Brady snuck into the refs hotel rooms while they were getting their continental breakfast, hid the balls under the bed, and when the ref couldn’t find him he assumed that one of the other refs had already taken the balls and the gauges to the game. But in reality it was just another Patriots cheating scandal.

It’s almost comical at this point. The most amazing part about this is that this is a very, very successful multibillion dollar enterprise, that can’t seem to do even the most basic things. They must have a bunch of people who strictly do PR. How are they not better at making sure stuff like this doesn’t happen? Do they just not give a shit about the brand? Are they just that confident that the NFL can overcome any and all fuck ups, no matter how big or small?

P.S. I certainly hope the taxpayers didn’t pay for this PSI escort. But I’m sure they did, because Roger Goodell is a professional asshole.

Double P.S. I still want that Goddamn first round draft pick back.

I could go off like a crazed lunatic regarding this story against the NFL versus the Patriots and the NFL’s obvious incompetence and seeming quest to destroy a NFL dynasty that will place if not force the Dallas Cowboys into second place as America’s team.

But I will not. I will quietly stand by and watch awesomeness prevail and realize that they hate cause they ain’t us…

P.S. It may be too late for the Cowboys anyway. I’d love to see a pole on who is America’s team right now. How can you go wrong with even just the name Patriots let alone their success? It’s a no-brainer America! No-brainer.

That this not only happened at all, but happened here, in New England, during the playoffs, on pretty much the one year anniversary of Deflategate, is absolutely unbelievable
