We got an email from an attendee of the DOJ’s fix racism in Worcester meeting tonight. Here it is, followed by our brief thoughts on the matter:

Dear Turtleboy,

I’ve been following your blogs about the Justice Department’s visit to Worcester so I wanted to check out what it was all about tonight. So I headed down to QCC for tonight’s forum on Representative Government.

First they gave us free food, which was pretty sweet, and they herded us into an auditorium. They explained how the city government works, which was extremely riveting. After that the separated us into several groups for “discussions.”

Upon entering we were given one of the most ridiculous handouts I’ve ever seen, entitled, “Paying Attention To Race?”, and was apparently taken from a publication called, I shit you not, “Witnessing Whiteness.” Here is what it looked like:

Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 3.28.41 PM 11311921_1591515057798438_1375119156_n

As you can see from the handouts about “microaggressions,” the DOJ and City of Worcester are now actively endorsing the belief that “color-blindness” is racist. As are the ideas of transcending race, and viewing yourself as without a race. We also got a handout that explained all the major buzz words we were to familiarize ourselves with before beginning the “discussion”:

11289550_1591515051131772_946586625_n 11119779_1591515054465105_1950288550_n Screen Shot 2015-06-30 at 3.29.00 PM 11355581_1591515061131771_1133270384_n

The one that got me the most was “white privilege.” The definition that was given to us, from a piece of paper that was endorsed with the City of Worcester’s seal, was that white privilege, “refers to the unquestioned and unearned set of advantages, entitlements, benefits and choices bestowed on people solely because they are white. Generally white people who experience such privilege do so without being conscious of it.”

I grew up off of Canterbury Street. I was handed nothing in life and had to work for everything. I’ve checked off “Caucasian” or “white” on every application I’ve ever filled out, and not once did I ever think it would be anything except for a detriment. The idea that I have “unearned advantages, entitlements and benefits” is so absurd it sounds like it came directly out of The Onion. But it didn’t. It came directly from the desk of Ed Augustus. The City of Worcester is endorsing the belief that people like me had everything in life handed to us merely because I had the fortune of being born with white skin.

Our group conversation was monitored by a nice enough lady from the DOJ. She didn’t do much talking, instead letting group members do that for them. I never got a chance to say a word because the conversation was dominated by people who subscribe to the lunacy listed in the glossary of terms we were handed.

I recognized one of the people in my group, Dr. Bernard Reese, from a blog you had published previously. He is an assistant principal at Doherty High School whom Clive McFarlane interviewed. I was disturbed to read in that column that he said that students of color could not learn as well from teachers who are not of the same racial makeup as they are. In our group tonight he echoed much of this. I wrote down some of the more memorable things he said:

“92% of teachers are white in Worcester, but students are getting browner.”

“40% of schools nationwide do not employ a teacher of color.”

“The opportunity is not there for black people to get teaching jobs.”

“When a student is written up, I treat my office like therapy. The first thing I want to hear is their side of the story, because there are three sides to every story – the student’s version, the teacher’s version, and the truth.”

The last line in particular was disturbing and telling. Teachers are supposed to be professionals, yet here is this administrator who willingly admits that he gives a student’s account of a disciplinary issue equal weight to that of a teacher. Essentially they are on the same level and a teacher’s word is no better than a student’s. Why anyone would ever want to work for a man like this is beyond me.

Screen Shot 2015-06-02 at 1.25.22 AM

His obsession with the color of the skin of teachers under his employ was disgusting. Of course I could not voice this opinion, as it was clear from the tone of the conversation, along with the handout we were given, that voicing such opinions would be viewed as hostile behavior.

Another woman who spoke a lot was an African-American woman who used to be a teacher. She said that she was disturbed by white teacher’s comments in the teacher’s room in regards to their students, and believed that they were giving students of color failing grades as a result of this bias. She also said that her students of color were glad to find someone “who was like them.”

I did try several times to interject myself into the “conversation” but to no avail. Whenever I finally worked up the stones to voice my opinion, I was quickly drowned out by someone who prefaced their long-winded statement with, “three quick things I just want to mention.” They were never quick though. I felt left out and that my opinions and thoughts were not valid in that setting.

In regards to representative government, the major complaint was that people of color felt left out of the system, presumably because of institutional racism. And as a result of this they were less likely to think that voting was worth their time. All I heard tonight was a litany of excuses, but not once did I hear a single, concrete idea on how to fix this. I am beginning to think that people like Dr. Reese don’t want solutions, because then they won’t have anything to complain about.

I was under the impression that these meetings would be a place for citizens like myself to express our opinions. But clearly it was not. The City of Worcester set the tone with the handout that the rhetoric we’ve heard from the people who have violated our laws and disrespected our police and teachers, would be the official language of these talks. I’ve lived in Worcester my entire life, and today is the first day I’ve been truly ashamed to be a resident.

LOL. I couldn’t make it down to this shitshow and I don’t regret it now. Everything except for the free food sounded terrible. The meeting tonight was supposed to be about “representative government” and how people of color can have more of an influence. If I was there I would’ve fixed it all with one simple solution – try voting. Boom. Problem solved. Vote the Turtleboy Ticket in November.

I have to thank you for the efforts you’ve put in penning this site.
I really hope to check out the same high-grade blog posts from you later on as well.
In truth, your creative writing abilities has motivated me to get my
    very own blog now 😉

What a nicely fabricated letter for TB to riff on. Sorry, but this never happened.

It would seem awfully elaborate to create fake handouts, etc. You may not like it, but there’s supporting documentation. If you have evidence that the handouts are forged, feel free to present it. Otherwise, someone in possession of the handouts would be reasonably assumed to have been at the event, especially on the day of the event, so the story holds.

Bring something better to the table other than “nuh uh”

I’m not arguing the documents are fake. But, come on, you just slip the janitor a fiver, problem solved. You have to admit they look a bit rumpled. Besides, then there’s no need to endure going into a room filled with a bunch of detestable hippies and blacks, where you’ll only feel stifled and unheard by the continual need to push “commie” and “nigger” back from your lips. Those photos were obviously taken in somebody’s living room, right in front of their nice fireplace, not a 3rd-floor conference room at QCC, so no, I’m not buying it. I know, you’re having a hard time believing that TB would like just make shit up out of thin air, or any such thing. It’s the bromance and accompanying chub that has you blind. Let it fade, my friend, let it fade.

Occam’s razor. What’s the more likely scenario? Someone went to the meeting and got the documents there or they went through some scheme to pay a 3rd party for something being given out for free? Your scenario isn’t supported by the data and borders on the ridiculous. Also, as for your projection (that’s what it’s called when you attribute your own opinions and beliefs to others)….get help.

Poor Carlo. Got banned from commenting on the TnG even with the new Facebook policy? So much for bashing those who comment huh? That only took a week.

So here you are with another segment of “Nap time stories with Carlo”. Making up situations that are obvious lies and extreme exaggerations such as being able to tell the difference between a house w a fireplace (just like the ones in %99.9 white suburb of Sutton) and a room at QCC from the 2mm of color along the sides of the picture huh? Funny you can see that but can’t see your own intellectual hypocrisy and cowardice while getting all of your comments removed and being banned from future comments on the TnG.

How’s that song go? Instant karma is gonna get you, kick you right in the head.

RSoxGuy the Carlo purge continues at the Telegram. All comments to some Carlo bloggings are disappearing. Even the comments to the Steven Feldman LTE that challenged Carlo’s LTE are gone. I’ll have to check to see if I can still comment. Stay tuned…

“Rumpled papers” ???? Proving/disproving what? If I sat in that God awful meeting my papers wouldn’t look that good.

Where the photo was taken means absolutely nothing. What is your point? Maybe the commenter took the photo when he got home and maybe he took it at QCC. What does it have to do with anything????

“Slip the janitor a fiver???” To get a freely distributed document at a public meeting? Haha. Back to my question. Are you insane?

Your most troubling comment is where you suggest people are forcing back disgusting thoughts and words to reinforce your own belief that everyone is a racist. They are only in your head. I do psychiatric evaluations. Yours is on the house!

          June 3, 2015 at 8:15 am

I would say that taking a photograph after the fact hardly discredits a person’s reflection.

They didn’t take the photos at QCC so as not to bring attention to themselves. Simple enough.

You want to see racism? All you have to do is cross the Ohio river. I was so disgusted at the way whites acted down there. My friend and I got along better with the blacks, and they loved us because we were like the first non racist white guys ever it seemed. These people are delusional.

Anyone who says they are colorblind/dnt see color… are lying. Color not impacting you, ok. But if u order a steak well done and it comes out bleeding all over your plate, you’ll notice color really quick. If tatnuck sq was bright and sunny today, while it’s pouring rain all over the midtown mall, you’d look up and say, I like that big yellow thing surrounded my all that blue stuff more than I like that greyish shit show. If you get on a plane full of nfl cheerleaders but ur sitting next to a skinhead and what looks like an isis mofo, all of ur “I dnt judge, I dnt see color, people are people” bullshit will fly right out the cockpit. Seeing color doesn’t make u racist anymore than it doesn’t make u a racist. If my poop was pink, it’d still be poop.

    • Sam Burnside
      June 3, 2015 at 5:51 pm

Color blind doesn’t mean you don’t see color. It means someone’s color doesn’t affect how you treat the person.

  • Mousy
    June 2, 2015 at 8:49 am

I don’t see Worcester, or anywhere in New England, as particularly racist, but then again I work for a progressive company in a progressive industry. I think the allegations of rampant racism in our fair city were born from a kernel of truth, and have grown into a bloated, unhealthy, twisted version that has everyone on the defensive, feeling personally attacked. Not that Worcester is perfect, by any means, but the simple fact that we invited the DOJ here, and welcome them with open arms, is telling; a city that has a racism problem isn’t likely to invite the Feds in to uncover all their secrets, right?

The thing that disturbed me about this reader’s email, though, is that they felt marginalized, like no one would listen, and like their opinion doesn’t matter. On one hand, I bet that’s how non-white people have felt for a long time, and if the reader felt that way on one evening, imagine what it’s like to feel that way all time, every day. On the other hand, all lives matter and marginalizing one group in favor of another is counterproductive. We should be pulling everyone up to the same level, and no one should be thrown over the side in the process.

Steve, maybe the T&G is finally seeing him for what he really is. A self-loathing bigot. While I’m admittedly an atheist, if people want to believe in something, have at it. Xmas trees on the town square and god on the walls of the courthouse aren’t a problem for me. On the other hand, Carlo’s open hatred towards religion is no better than the bigots he rails against on a daily basis. If they wiped him off the pages, I’m 50% back to renewing my subscription to the mag.

Well Devils Mouthpiece Carlo is back on the T&G with another blogpost 6/3/15 10:00am. Lots of innocent commenters got their comments deleted in the big Carlo comment purge. That may be due more to my comments than theirs. Even the ‘anti-Carlo diversity’ LTE by Steven Feldman 5/31/15 had all the comments deleted. Doug P. Magada commented on that letter and that innocent comment is now vanished history.

Seems to me the reader was squelched by others at the table because of the color of his skin. Oh yeah, right. I forgot there’s no such thing as reverse discrimination. Clearly they felt the reader had nothing to offer, didn’t care or just downright wanted to exclude him. So much for open dialogue.

white Jewish Privilege refers to the unquestioned and unearned set of advantages, entitlements, benefits and choices bestowed on people solely because they are white Jews. Generally white Jews who experience such privilege do so without being conscious of it. “Jew Privilege and the Final Solution: A personal account of Adolph Hitler coming to see how the ovens are working at Auschwitz, 1944.”

Heads up to the Jewish folks who go to this DOJ shindig!
Baldino and his “diversity” friends have already stripped you of your religious status… they call you an ‘ethnic group’ now. Combine Saida Grundy justifying the destruction of white Jewish businesses, Baldino’s ethnic cleansing ‘diversity’ campaign that strips Jews of their religion and this DOJ Nazi bull you Jewish folks are the primary target hidden within this ‘anti-whiteness’ campaign.
These ‘diversity’ people are Nazis pure and simple so watch your backs Jewish folks.
FYI. All the Baldino comments at the Telegram have vanished as well as his most recent blog posting. Not sure what’s up there.

          • Steve Gambone
            June 2, 2015 at 8:36 pm

To AreYOUserious, here’s what I know about the Carlo situation.

On May 24 a Carlo blog that blasted the head Turtle got pulled by the Telegram and Turtleboy wrote about it. At that point all the Carlo comments throughout the Telegram still existed. Those Carlo comments were still there on Sunday May 31. Baldino had just blogged again but he didn’t mention Turtleboy directly, just called him a RepCon. I commented on that Carlo blog, including a comment where I posted one of my little ‘wormhole’ links (the URL) to a Steven Feldman LTE that challenged Carlo’s LTE from May 20.

By posting URL’s, I connected all the related Carlo rants so that anyone could easily jump from one to the other and read all his related wacko comments on his diversity training. My comments with their wormhole transports still exist, Carlo’s earlier bloggings still exist but all Carlo’s comments are gone throughout the Telegram. It was said in the past (by Tomass I think) that Carlo was banned from commenting before the Facebook switch.

The Telegram bloggers are unpaid. Most anyone could blog for the Telegram. If I’ve played my hand right I’d be banned from Telegram blogging but I can still comment, which is the ideal position for me.

        • Steve Gambone
          June 2, 2015 at 7:04 pm

Well RSoxGuy the truth is I do push the Politically Correct comments envelope and the Old Telegram tombstoned some of my comments. Of course, they did it to lots of folks. The New Telegram hasn’t banned or even warned me yet but that could change anytime.

Since the Facebook login change I’ve been the top Carlo opponent if you go by comment count. Carlo’s anonymous foes couldn’t post so I took on the job of going at him and any others of the so-called diversity set.

Baldino isn’t alone in his beliefs, lots of people buy into that nonsense. So I battle them in my own way.

      • Steve Gambone
        June 2, 2015 at 7:31 pm

TBspurts aka mini-Carlo, the Baldino-type diversity classes play on people’s fears and prejudices. Carlo is an anti-religion atheist, not all atheists are. In his May 20 LTE he bragged about how he got a Jewish woman to go after the Christmas decorations. Baldino turned her anti-Christian so that the Christians would go anti-Semetic in response. Grundy pulls a different stunt. She could seek out Jewish businesses during MLK week. Jews risked their lives in support of Civil Rights for blacks, some paid the ultimate price. To Grundy the Jewish folks are born white privileged.

The note in Baldino’s LTE and his blog states that, in the name of ‘diversity’, Jews are now an ‘ethic group’ not a religious group.

Hitler pulled the same con game.

This is a responsible approach and I personally love racial and cultural diversity by the way. I think it makes our country cool as shit. Better than any other on the Earth. Can anyone name one better?
