This story from the New York Times is the reason America sucks right now:

New York TimesThis fall, David Aderhold, the superintendent of a high-achieving school district near Princeton, New Jersey, sent parents an alarming 16-page letter. The school district, he said, was facing a crisis. Its students were overburdened and stressed out, juggling too much work and too many demands. In the previous school year, 120 middle and high school students were recommended for mental health assessments; 40 were hospitalized. And on a survey administered by the district, students wrote things like, “I hate going to school,” and “Coming out of 12 years in this district, I have learned one thing: that a grade, a percentage or even a point is to be valued over anything else.”

26DISTRICT1-master675

Newsflash kids – everyone hates going to school. But don’t worry, you won’t hate it nearly as much as your job when you’re older.

And I’m sorry, but spare me the bullshit about overburdened and stressed out students who need mental health assessments. You know why your kids are getting mental health assessments? Because you’re from an ultra rich school district (average per capita income is $137,000), and you have the privilege of seeing a doctor when you’re stressed out. You know who doesn’t see a doctor when they’re stressed out? Kids at South High. They just deal with it. But when your kid is a whiny little shitbag from New Jersey he has to be treated like a delicate flower when he’s got too much homework.

With his letter, Aderhold inserted West Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District into a national discussion about the intense focus on achievement at elite schools, and whether it has gone too far. At follow-up meetings, he urged parents to join him in advocating a holistic, “whole child” approach to schooling that respects “social-emotional development” and “deep and meaningful learning” over academics alone. The alternative, he suggested, was to face the prospect of becoming another Palo Alto, California, where outsize stress on teenage students is believed to have contributed to two clusters of suicides in the last six years.

Social-emotional development? Deep and meaningful learning? Whole child approach? Sweet baby Jesus, the wussification of America is in full effect in Windsor-Plainsboro Regional School District.

Guess what? Kids aren’t killing themselves because they’re too stressed out about school. They’re doing it because their parents are too busy making a killing on Wall Street and don’t have the time to talk to them.

But instead of bringing families together, Aderhold’s letter revealed a fissure in the district, which has 9,700 students, and one that broke down roughly along racial lines. On one side are white parents like Catherine Foley, a former president of the Parent Teacher Student Association at her daughter’s middle school, who has come to see the district’s increasingly pressured atmosphere as antithetical to learning. “My son was in fourth grade and told me, ‘I’m not going to amount to anything because I have nothing to put on my résumé,’ ” she said.

Hey lady, if your kid is in fourth grade and he’s talking about what he’s going to put on his resume, then we’ve identified what the problem is – you. Because no normal fourth grader talks about their resume.

The ironic part is that this woman has clearly trained her kid to believe that getting the best grades, getting into the best college, and getting into the best grad school are the most important things they can do so they can put it on their resume. But now that a bunch of Asian families have shown up out of nowhere and are better than their kids, they all of a sudden wanna embrace this new philosophy where everyone gets a trophy.

How come they didn’t need this ten years ago? Oh yea, because Asian kids just started moving to their school district and hurt the delicate American kids’ feelings with their good grades.

On the other side are parents like Mike Jia, one of the thousands of Asian-American professionals who have moved to the district in the past decade, who said Aderhold’s reforms would amount to a “dumbing down” of his children’s education.

”What is happening here reflects a national anti-intellectual trend that will not prepare our children for the future,” Jia said.

With many Asian-American children attending supplemental instructional programs, there is a perception among some white families that the elementary school curriculum is being sped up to accommodate them.

Oh, you mean like, competition? God forbid!! Newsflash – competition is what has always made America great. When people compete against each other in anything it improves the product and everyone wins. The NFL is great because millions of kids across the country compete against one another to make it to the league. Air travel, cars, skyscrapers, bridges, medical advancements, social media, and basically EVERYTHING we have that is awesome, is a direct result of competition.

Who are the guys that tried to design a plane before the Wright brothers? Who is the guy that was put out of business when Henry Ford found a cheaper way to mass produce cars? Doesn’t matter, because those guys were losers. And in America winners get rich and losers have to work for the government.

This is why Turtleboy is rather liberal when it comes to immigration. Because so many immigrants have come to this country and helped make it great. You like the electricity in your house right now? Thank Nicola Tesla. ATM machines, Google, Microsoft Word, telephones, steel buildings, basketball, bikes, HDTV, automatic transmissions, hot dogs – all of these things make America great. All of them were invented by immigrants

You know what Turtleboy sees when he looks at some of these students?

Winners.

Guess what rich white establishment? You already got the hook ups. You already have a network of people you can call and get your kid an internship when he graduates from college. But these Chinese and Indian people have nobody. They have to finish at the top. And in doing so they’re creating the next generation of people who invent really awesome things that make Turtleboy’s life easier. Don’t fuck this one up for Turtleboy.

Both Asian-American and white families say the tension between the two groups has grown steadily over the past few years, as the number of Asian families has risen. But the division has become more obvious in recent months as Aderhold has made changes, including no-homework nights, an end to high school midterms and finals, and a “right to squeak” initiative that made it easier to participate in the music program.

What kind of loser bullshit is this? Let me get this straight. A bunch of rich, privileged honkies from JERSEY, are all upset because they can’t keep up with the new Asian kids in the classroom? And now they want the standards lowered to accommodate the fact that their kids are butthurt about it? How bout your kid just tries his best, gets into a decent college, goes onto lead a nice middle class lifestyle, and you stop whining about it?

The bottom line is that this is a microcosm of why America is falling behind the rest of the world. Because we have developed a loser mentality while the rest of the world is still operating under a winner mentality. These whiny Jersey dooshnozzles should just accept the fact that their kids aren’t as good as they think they are, and that’s OK. Because in America they’ll end up being just fine.

This is exactly what happened to white schools, dumbed down to appease blacks who can throw a ball, but are excused from homework. Affirmative Action anyone?

Great example of how America hates success now because if someone succeeds it shows that those who don’t succeed could have if they just worked harder. And that just hurts feelings. So better to dumb things down so everyone gets the same result. Pretty much why everyone attacks the Patriots. They work hard and succeed. So people need to knock them down to everyone else’s level.

My ex boyfriend loved in that district. His parents were snotty fuckers who hated me because I moved down there and were a newly well off family that moved from Brooklyn, NY! I was the poor girl and not good enough for their son. That entire area is over privileged white people who think everyone owes them. I hated it there.

An immigrant is also credited with inventing the nuclear bomb.
