ESPN: Former NFL wide receiver Terry Glenn has died after being involved in a suspected car crash in Texas, the Dallas County medical examiner’s office said. He was 43. The medical examiner’s office said Glenn died at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas early Monday morning.

Nineties kids like me loved us some Terry Glenn growing up. Drew Bledsoe became Drew Bledsoe largely because Bob Kraft forced Bill Parcells to draft her him seventh overall in 1996. He was exactly what Bledsoe needed – a deep threat diva receiver. And he was only 5′ 11,” which is remarkable because people that size are almost always slot receivers who are good for a bunch of short yardage catches, but not the deep bomb.
Glenn, Bledsoe, Ben Coates, Curtis Martin, and a bunch of others were the guys who bridged the gap from being the laughingstock of the NFL to the greatest dynasty that has ever existed. They weren’t part of the championship teams, but they built the foundation. Some of them, like Bruschi, Ted Johnson, Vinatieri, Ty Law, and Lawyer Milloy played long enough to be part of both the Bledsoe and Brady eras. Glenn just missed that claim to fame by a few games.
Terry Glenn got a bad rap because he was your classic outspoken diva receiver. But looking back at his arrests and “troubles,” they’re largely weed related. So today he wouldn’t be considered a bad dude at all. As a matter of fact it would be Bill Parcells who was receiving hate mail from SJWs for misgendering him by calling him “her.”
Bill Belichick largely earned the reputation he has today by the way he treated Terry Glenn as well. Glenn was 27 years old and in the prime of his career when Belichick suspended him in August of 2001 over a contract dispute. When he finally did play and started whining about injuries, Belichick cut ties with him. The Patriots of course went on to win the Super Bowl that year and the Belichick precedent was established – I will cut anyone, there are no sacred cows, and anyone who wants Von Miller money is getting traded to Cleveland. For a guy who had never won shit before to cut one of the greatest receivers in Patriots history, AND bench the greatest quarterback in franchise history in favor of a slow, unathletic 6th round draft pick, IN THE SAME SEASON HE WON A SUPER BOWL, is remarkable.
So here’s my question – where does Terry Glenn rank for Patriots receivers in the Bledsoe-Brady era? Here’s my top 11, including tight ends……
11. David Givens
Only played four years, but was our second best receiver on 2 Super Bowl Champions.
10. Aaron Hernandez
What a fucking waste of God given talent.
9. Shawn Jefferson
The only kind of receiver Bledsoe knew how to play with – fast guys who run deep routes and like to have the ball chucked up to them. Led the league in yards per catch in 1998.
8. Deion Branch
The only guy not named Tom Brady to win a Super Bowl MVP as a member of the Patriots.
7. Ben Coates
On any other franchise that didn’t once employ Rob Gronkowski he’d be your team’s greatest tight end of all time. Bledsoe’s safety valve time and time again. Put up big reception numbers for tight ends before it was cool.
6. Julian Edelman
The remarkable part about Edelman is that he pretty much didn’t play at all during his first three years. Everyone thought Amendildo was supposed to be Welker’s replacement. Turned out it was the 7th round draft pick who played quarterback in college.
5. Terry Glenn
Imagine if Terry Glenn wasn’t a diva and could commit to Belichick’s “Patriot way.” He might’ve been number one on this list.
4. Troy Brown
Still my favorite Patriot of all time, and easily the most undervalued player in the Super Bowl era. I’ve never seen someone with a knack for getting open like Troy Brown. He could also play cornerback if you really needed him.
3. Gronk
Because of his injuries he probably will never have the career stats of Tony Gonzalez, Shannon Sharpe, or Antonio Gates. But there has never been a tight end as dominant as he’s been, and there never will be.
2. Wes Welker
If he had caught that fucking ball he might be #1. He has over 100 receptions more than Brown for first in franchise history, made two Super Bowls, and returned punts too.
1. Randy Moss
The greatest deep threat receiver in NFL history had his greatest season ever on what should’ve been the greatest team in NFL history.

Glenn, in raw physical talent, could have easily became on of the best of his era. Just a waste.
With a new contract and playing with Brady during his development as the GOAT, wouldve been interesting. But, the good thing is, as a Patriot Fans, we’re usually too busy looking forward instead of wallowing in “What ifs” like some shart pipe Jets fan.

It’s another car accident where it’s pretty clear that the ejected driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt and it’s nowhere to be mentioned…it’s the best chance you have of surviving an accident..wear your seat belt…

Interesting post linking Terry Glenn to the Drew Bledsoe/Tom Brady era…Terry Glenn played exactly 1 game and had a good one (7 catches for 110 yards and a TD) before going on the IR and moving to another team. Besides one game, Terry Glenn was a non-factor. An exciting NE Patriot for the gunslinger Bledsoe, but a stretch to call this guy a Brady-Era player.
I’m convinced that the last image going through Marlon McCree’s mind before he falls asleep every night is Troy Brown stripping him of that football in January of 2006.
