Say Good Bye To Free Narcan, A New Policy Gives Junkies Three Strikes And They Are Out, Or Dead, Whatever Works

Merry Christmas! Or at least it’s Christmas over in Middleton Ohio where there is a proposal to remove free Narcan from repeat users. Would that not be a perfect gift to give over the holidays? Narcan wrapped in a cute little box, but with a warning that if you keep shooting drugs into your arms, we are going to let you die… Want another glass of eggnog?

From WLWT:

“A controversial proposal has been made in Middletown to deal with heroin overdoses.

Middletown is considering whether people with addiction should only be given two strikes before they’re out of chances at Narcan.
Middletown is struggling to deal with the heroin problem.

“We are faced with stress on our services, particularly the EMS services where we can do six to eight opioid overdose runs a day,” said Paul Lolli, fire chief of Middletown.

The number of overdoses jumped this year. Last year, there were 532 overdoses. So far, only halfway through 2017, there are already 577.

Halfway through the year and there are already more overdoses than the entire previous year. Narcan is obviously the problem. It enables junkies. It gives them a safety net. It makes them less afraid to overdose because they know a simple thing like Narcan can bring them back from the dead. Don’t worry about being able to afford it on your own, please feel free to use the money you earned giving head behind a dumpster somewhere, and use it on your heroin. The rest of the world will continue to take it in the rectum, pay our taxes, and provide the free Resurrection.

Also last year, the department spent more than $11,000 on Narcan. This year, $30,000 has been spent on it.

I’m sure Middleton can use that money for police, firefighter, ems, or school funding. Sucks that it’s going toward people who don’t care enough about living.

This is a result of more overdoses and the increasing strength of the drugs addicts are using, officials said.

The number of deaths from overdoses is on track to increase, as well. Last year, there were 74 deaths. So far this year, there are 51.

I say good riddance. There are many people in the world who are sick and struggling to live because they have a disease or terminal illness that they could not prevent. It would be nice if funds can go to health care for those people who are facing serious struggles trying to survive.

Leaders are frustrated trying to find a solution.

Look no further, Dan Picard, a city council member has created the perfect solution. Let these addicts fend for themselves.

City council member Dan Picard is proposing a three strikes system. After the first two overdose rescues, the person would perform community service for the equivalent amount of money used on the lifesaving response.

If they want to continue to shoot drugs, let them. Once they run out of their free Narcan, let them earn and repay what they have cost the city. What’s so hard about that? They should walk around and pick up all drug paraphernalia in the city.

The third strike is a bit more controversial.

“If the dispatcher determines that the person who’s overdosed is someone who’s been part of the program for two previous overdoses and has not completed the community service and has not cooperated in the program, then we wouldn’t dispatch,” said Dan Picard, Middletown city council member.

SAVAGE LEVEL 100! I can see it now:

“Hello Operator, there is a person over dosing, we need an ambulance!”

Operator: *Checks system* NOPE! This junkie is on strike THREE!!!!!!!!

TOO BAD, SO SAD! If you want to keep harming yourself, by all means, do so. It’s your CHOICE to do it. However, to expect tax payers to fund your CHOICE is wrong. You need Narcan? You get it two times for FREE. If you don’t complete your duty to repay back your two free doses of Narcan, then you simply end up like this…

Wowsers, that’s quite the meme. Don’t get offended, it’s not a real junkie dying. It was photoshopped, but do you get the picture? No more free Narcan is what Massachusetts NEEDS! Here in this state people struggle to get epi-pens, prescriptions, and decent health and dental without paying an arm and a leg.

The fire department said they are required by law to provide Narcan if they do respond to an overdose.

Picard said this plan is not aiming to solve the drug problem; it’s an attempt to save the city’s finances.

This man is savage. In other words, he is more concerned with the money the city is losing than people who make the CHOICE to die. I like his style. He needs to come on over to the good old Massachusetts and implement some of his great ideas here. Tired of people who work hard to survive and live struggling to pay for their healthcare and medical costs, as well as prescriptions. Then we have people who play Russian Roulette with their lives getting everything for free. When is it going to end? N-E-V-E-R if Narcan doesn’t have a limit here in this state.

“We’ve got to do what we’ve got to do to maintain our financial security and this is just costing us too much money,” Picard said.

Until legal advisers look at the plan proposed by Picard, the fire department is applying for grants and accepting donations to fund more Narcan.”
I can’t believe it has gotten so bad in this small town in Ohio that they need donations from hard working people to keep junkies alive. Usually people who have kind hearts and donate are people who are just making ends meet. Bless their souls. I refuse to give my money away to anyone but people I care for, and that’s a tiny circle. There is no way I am donating money I worked hard for to help someone who won’t even help themselves.

I’m ready for the shit storm in comment section!! I am going to be ahead of the game here and already type out some responses… Every time you see this in the comment section, please give yourself a point. The person with the most points will get free Narcan and be able to dangle it in front of an OD’ing junkie the same way you dangle keys in front of a baby… “Here you go, awwww, look at this Narcan, do you want it??”

What to look for:

“It’s a disease, not a choice!”

“Have compassion!”

“Can’t wait for this to happen to your kids so you know what it feels like”

“You’re lucky you don’t have to suffer with an addict in your family, you have no clue!”

“I hope you die” – That’s one of my favorites!

“You’re heartless, what a loser, you bully!”

“One of these days you or someone you love will die of an overdose, and you will regret what you said!”

“Research has shown this is a disease not a choice!”

“There are people who get lung cancer from smoking and they don’t get this criticism”

“What about fat people who have diabetes? Is that not a choice!”

“I hate Feisty, this was so mean, I am hurt in my private parts” – This turns me on. I love to be hated. I live for that kind of stuff. I siphon your hate out of your soul and mix it in with my coffee in the morning. It’s how I survive. Believe me, I don’t care.

Treatment costs of alcoholism is far and away more expensive than that of “junkies”. I’m sensing alot of closet booze bags moonlighting as bloggers/writers/lovers of general faggotry ate contributors to this site. The writer certainly is in stage 5 rage mode (probably because his/her father was a junkie and preferred chasing the dragon over playing catch with little rage boy). Either way, your hatred and anger towards people you don’t know, in situations you can’t begin to fathom, is as hilarious as it is sad. “Rah Rah my tax dollars Rah Rah fuck my ass”. Why not direct your Palm clenching rage toward the people who are spending your tax dollars on foreign wars, aid to countries that don’t like us, bailouts for corporations, transfer of wealth to the ultra-rich, subsidies to trillion dollar Pharma companies (who charge outrageous prices for drugs that cost them pennies to make)- list goes on. I think your tantrums would be better suited toward those things over a few grand being spent on Narcan to save lives. P.S. please get loaded tonight and drive full speed into a tree, crybaby.

It would never be legal for a first responder to withhold life saving treatment no matter how many times said person has needed it before. As a recovering addict of over ten years who wouldn’t be alive if it were not for the life saving drug narcan I fully support it’s use no matter if a person has needed once, three times or even ten. Every person deserves every single chance to change their lives and it takes longer for some to reach bottom than others. I hope than maybe one day you’ll wake up with a bit more love and compassion in your heart. But unfortunately I think you might truly be the one that’s a hopeless case.

The author of this article is simply ignorant and tbch if I were to ever meet you I would slap the shit outta you. I have struggled with
A heroin addiction for years all though I am currently in recovery. I have lost more friends then I could ever wish to recall hell 8 people in the last two week. I don’t know if you know what it’s like to grieve but judging from this article I hope your daughter overdoses tonight and can’t be revived cuz they don’t wanna waste anymore money on junkies

    • Let me up, I've had enough
      June 26, 2017 at 2:24 pm

      To Sam Stephens…..

First of all, I want to praise you for fighting and wanting to overcome your addiction. Please, keep up the good work. Having said that however, this is a very serious question….

Why is it up to the public to pay for the cleanup of YOUR addiction. I’m not trying to provoke you or pick a fight or even argue. I just want to know the mentality from someone on the other side of the fence as to why you feel it’s o.k. to live that type of lifestyle without any financial consequences or responsibilities and just as important, why do feel that someone else should pay the tab for it (ex: the taxpayers)?

    • WTF
      June 26, 2017 at 10:36 pm

Sam Stephens – Your answer of “I hope your daughter overdoses tonight and can’t be revived ” has already been taken. See # 3 on the list above ““Can’t wait for this to happen to your kids so you know what it feels like”

I doubt you are an addict, or, maybe you are in recovery for how many days now? For someone supposedly is in ‘recovery’ you seem to have a lot of hate for people who speak against drugs, instead of hate for the drugs.

If you are an addict, I, unlike YOU, hope you get off drugs.

As a first responder who has administered Narcan more times than the average person takes Tylenol in a lifetime, I can say this article is spot on. The bleeding hearts like to illustrate the average narcan recipient as the troubled young person who made a horrible mistake in lifestyle choice, and only crime is bad judgement. Although these people exist and do overdose, they are the minority. 98% of junkies are the most dirty, and criminally minded people in society. The problem is you people don’t go in to the three deckers, and see how they live, and the squalor, and disease they subject theyre children too. You don’t see how they treat people, and the destruction that is left in theyre wake to get what they want, when they want it. Next time you read about an overdose, picture someone who looks like Charles Manson, not a tortured tender artist like Kurt Cobain.

What they really need to be spending the money on is good therapy that truly works, that is inexpensive for all of these people that are in trouble. Better yet therapy available before the problem begins. I don’t have a drug problem and I know that finding a good therapist took me 20 years and now costs me $150 a week. Majority of free or low cost therapists that I’ve seen are horrible. A good therapist spends a lot of time in school and continues with their education throughout and therefore should be paid accordingly. Our insurance companies should be covering the services. I believe your mental health is more important than anything else. When I tried to find a therapist for someone that did have drug problems it was impossible unless we were planning to spend a lot of money.

Drug addicts have a mental disorder which makes them prone to addiction. Much like how fat people are addicted to sugar, but, at the moment (until Michael Bloomberg gets elected President) sugar is legal.

If you have an addictive personality, you’ll get addicted… to something. You can’t “cure” an addictive personality. Its a hard-wired switch in the brain (likely genetic, but we’ll likely never discover it). At best, you can give people coping mechanisms.

Spending money on addicts is like heating your house with $100 bills. It’s a complete waste of money. If they’re prone to OD, let them, it’ll save us money in the long run.

  • I PAY MY OWN WAY
    June 26, 2017 at 9:29 am

What people are not saying is that once a person has received narcan then overdoses a second time it takes significantly more narcan to revive them the second time and even more for the third and it does get to the point where is will not work anymore. There has to be a line somewhere and if it is three strikes fine, personally I think two is more than fair.

I read something recently that said most towns got to 5 to 8 overdoses a day, that’s a lot of ods. It makes you wonder how many people have died because all medical personal has been too busy dealing with another overdose call to get to them in time.

My friend is a paramedic and said he responds to at least two
overdoses per shift, and he works in a small town. The EMS workers
are SICK of these people. Crazy. These people are wasting
      tax money left and right.

Add chemical castration into the “free” narcan doses for the gentlemen, and require all the hoo has on methadone or suboxone to get nor plant at the same time. Or cut that shit off. The cost of junkie meds doesn’t hold a candle to the cost of raising their messed up kids. Towns are suffering hard, and when the school systems are strapped to the max dealing with one on one’s for kids whose main “disability ” is the names on their birth certificates, something is seriously wrong.
Frankly I could give a fuck about saving Strike Two, even. It’s when they wake up and breed that my hackles go up. Anything to keep that from happening is fine by me.
Bring back the stockade on the town common. Bet it would be nice to get pelted with rotting vegetables whilst detoxing. Here, have a twizzler and a face full of mushy tomatoes!

This is a great idea and I hope and pray it spreads. I’m so sick of these fools who say it’s a disease, not a choice. SCREW THAT! I have absolutely no sympathy for these fools, and I resent how much it costs to keep them alive. They are (barely) human garbage and should be allowed to die and rot in a landfill.

My kids went to school with three young men who have OD’d and died in the past three years. My kids will tell you, I predicted these kids would do exactly that when they were in the sixth grade! Oh, yes, their families loved them; that’s what families do. But I truly believe that all three of them never would have tried drugs if their families (with whom I am well acquainted), had the strength to raise them right. I’m not talking poor families here, either. These were young men from the suburbs, at least one from a very wealthy family. And they all thought they were great parents, though I told at least two sets of parents that they were wrong. They all thought they knew better. They didn’t.

I am so tired of the excuses. There is no excuse for addiction, and addicts have no right to expect to be saved. We need to get real.

Just another typical opinion from a hybrid piece of trailer trash. How is it that a ex-state trooper that I am acquainted with fell victim to this choice you speak of? Here is an honorable, DISCIPLINED man who was deemed worthy of protecting you and your suburban family from the dark and evil of this world, who got injured on the job and was prescribed pain killers for his injury, and eventually destroyed his career and life because of this disease. This man went from being a Massachusetts State Trooper, to a pharmacy robbing addict because he decided one day he was going to throw his career and life away, and serve 10 years in a federal prison just because he wanted to ? This example alone proves that it is not a choice and it is a disease. I am sick of ignorant, misinformed, pieces of trash like yourself acting like your opinion is a fact.

Addication is a choice u can’t become addicted to something unless you make decision to start using

    • Kevin
      June 26, 2017 at 1:18 pm

Massachusetts does not currently have places for I.V. drug users to get high safely, so right from the start your ingorance and misinformative statements are evident. To say addiction is a choice is another ignorant and misinformative statement, but everyone is allowed their own opinion. Addicts definitely have the choice to pick up and use drugs and alcohol, which usually starts with experimenting at a young age, but they don’t know that they are starting a chain of events that could possibly lead to full blown, hard drug addiction. At some point it is no longer is a choice, and the brain’s limbic system (reward center) is completely hijacked by the addict’s drug of choice. Obviously you have no knowledge, or experience with this, thus nullifying your opinion.

      • Let me up, I've had enough
        June 26, 2017 at 1:57 pm

Are you fucking kidding me? I am SO tired of people like you. Get off your high horse telling everyone that we’re ignorant and misinformed just because we the taxpayers don’t want to pay for a place so drug addicts can use. We don’t want to babysit these people so that we can save their life quicker once they OD.

Why you ask? – NOT OUR PROBLEM. Hey look, I’m sorry that your kid, brother, sister, mom, dad, aunt, uncle, cousin, grandma, or grandpa has the ‘addictive gene” and has become an individual with no power to control themselves with their addiction. BUT GUESS WHAT? NOT A PUBLIC ISSUE. It is a family issue. If you want to save their life, great. Just don’t ask me, JOHN Q. PUBLIC, to pay for it.

Do I sound heartless and cynical? You bet I am.

Where did I say anything about agreeing with the taxpayers funding a safe site to use drugs? If you can find where I wrote that, I like to see it. I was stating facts, that there are no facilities like that in Massachusetts, and also partaking in the choice vs. disease argument. So no, I didnt ask you to pay for it, nor did I even state my position on the matter of public, safe drug use sites. So keep it moving, thanks pal.

Wrong. Ppl get addicted all the time off of pain killers that were prescribed to them by their doctors for serious injuries. These people don’t take their meds knowing they will be addicted and have to turn to dope because it’s too expensive to expensive to afford pills. Don’t say that EVERYONE chooses addiction by using. I had a friend who once thought he was given a line of coke but in fact it was dope. That wasn’t a choice.

I semi agree , but it’s actually VERY VERY VERY hard to get into a rehab or detox in Massachusetts , and out of state ones are very expensive and usually not covered by insurance . I know people who were on waiting list for over 2 1/2 months to get into a rehab . And the first step to getting clean is getting the junk out of your system , which is nearly impossible to do Cold turkey without help.

Really? Ohio is going to lead the charge on common sense about this issue?! Wow! I’ve been saying all along that junkies receiving narcan needed to be fined enough to cover the next 10 doses for themselves and a friend each time it is dispensed on them. But alas, this is SJW liberal territory and that common sense goes unheeded. Just keep passing the cost down to sober, addiction free taxpayers…oh wait, we’re addicted to politicians Like Lizzy Cherokee Borden Warren, hence the problem. Wish there was some narcan for that problem. I think liberalism is a disease.
