Last week we exposed the horrors that were transpiring at Laughlin Kennel in Oxford. We urged people to contact Michael Cahill, the director of the MA Dept. of Agricultural Resources, so that he could get off his ass and do his job. Several people had their emails returned, but this one right here is rather interesting:

“None of this “evidence” had been provided to the Department prior to the web posting that you saw.  It is clear that some of the photos and videos are several months old (or older).  It would have been more helpful had we been contacted by the ex-employee directly, at the time these conditions were witnessed.  We, like the media, have legal authority to protect any source’s identity.

I’m most disappointed that we were not afforded the opportunity to obtain a search warrant for the ‘second set’ of records stored in a locker.  If such records existed, they have surely been moved or destroyed by now.

We are actively working on this.

Michael Cahill, Director, Division of Animal Health, MA Dept. of Agricultural Resources, (617) 626-1794

The “actively working on this” part sounds good. But the rest of it is almost like they’re saying, “too late.” From what we are told several people had already reached out to his office before this about Laughlin Kennel, but they were ignored. It took a spicy Turtleboy expose to force him to respond, per usual. But that’s just what we do around her – we hold people accountable to the citizenry.

Anyway, we published a video of an ex-employee illegally giving an antibiotic to a sick dog, which he was not licensed to do. Since then we have had someone blur out his face so you can see the whole video. To watch it click here

Of course we still haven’t heard form Laughlin Kennels, but we have seen their lackeys defending them on the Facebook machine:

So let me get this straight. It happened three years ago, therefore it’s not true. Yea, that makes tons of sense. Must’ve been imaging all those puppies howling all hours of the night too.

Here’s some other things Turtle Riders have sent us about their experiences:

I worked for a temp agency as a customer service rep and we sent workers to Laughlin Kennels. Every worker we had on this job did not want to go back. The conditions of the dogs and the smell alone was too much. Not to mention that the manager wanted our workers to vaccinate the dogs.

Then there’s the neighbor’s experience:

My aunt actually lives on Larned Rd and told me about this place 4 years ago when my husband and I were looking to adopt a dog. She said it’s awful. When they receive puppy shipments, sometimes in the middle of the night, all you can hear are the screams of the poor dogs. She had also said that if you find a dog you are interested in, you go there and they bring the dog out into like a living room type of room to let you interact with the dog. They won’t let you see any other dogs, or where the dogs are kept. From what she has heard – it’s an absolute nightmare inside.

And we’ve heard COUNTLESS stories like this, about needing expensive medical treatment right after buying the pets, only to find out that their expenses would not be reimbursed by Elite Puppies – the Webster pet store owned by Jennifer Gardner, who now works at Laughlin Kennel:

He got sick on a Sunday night. I called my Dr (who is awesome and takes weekend calls). We brought him in that Monday morning and he said that we should bring him back. Not to even waste the money on getting him treated. He needed xrays and lots of care. He said to bring him back and get our money. He just charged us 35 for the visit. She refused to pay it bc it wasn’t her recommended vet. So we took him to the one she recommended. She was in Webster why did she recommend a vet in Natick.

Anyway. We brought him. That vet wasn’t on but the one who was was very worried and said they keep getting sick dogs from Elite. They did xrays who I cost a fortune. But those showed it was pneumonia. She refused to pay for it. They required followups (we didn’t expect her to pay those) but we paid just under $1,000 for a dog we bought for $750. She told us when we bought him that if he needed get services she would pay. But she only paid for the medicine. Maybe $50 at the most. He had to have 2 diff kinda of antibiotics.

I have his papers that said his father was a show champion. Yeah right. Haha

2nd vet apt. This time at the place she told us to go. When we were there they called her and told her to stop sending sick dogs to them.

Then there’s this story:

This is my English bulldog we got from Laughlin kennel TWO days after we got him. He almost died in my arms before we got him to tufts! 3600 dollars and 5 days later he was doing better and came home. So thankful he is alive today, but that place is a disgrace and I can’t believe they are continuing to do this to other people and puppies All the time and getting away with it!

12366224_1169001999781348_6509440529414980712_n

It’s just insane that this can continue. But at the same time people have to stop buying puppies from this place. I gotta be honest, before researching this stuff, I had no idea there was something wrong with going to a place like Laughlin and getting a dog. So I’m assuming that this place makes money off of people like last week Turtleboy, who don’t know any better. But that’s what we’re here for – to spread the good word and expose dooshnozzles.

Keep sending Michael Cahill emails with your experiences, especially if you have pictures or other forms of documentation: Michael.Cahill@state.ma.us.

Mr Cahill said on the news that not enough dogs had died compared to the amount of dogs Jennifer Gardner had sold! How many is enough!!!! I called Mr Cahill and spoke to him and told him how he had just set us back months! We were out picketing her shop in the freezing cold

If you people think that Jenn Gardner wrote that comment you are dumber than I suspected. Her name isn’t even spelled correctly. Anyone can post under any name as I proved above. If you people have to lie and cheat to get your point across you clearly do not have an argument.

What people dont know is what happened before the videos and pictures were released. A lot of thought was put into what to do with this information. Time and time again, the state has failed to take any action even with clear violations noted. A video was released a few months ago that caused an inspection. At this time, I was talking to a current employee that told me they had a heads up that they were being inspected. I have also talked to other ex employees that stated the same thing… they know when someone is coming to inspect. So giving this evidence to the state first would have resulted in the same thing. It was the media’s turn to put pressure on the state.

When my friend contacted the attorney general years ago she was told it was under USDA jurisdiction. My response to the attorney general is why is it FOX Boston came forward with video information regarding Laughlin selling sick dogs over 10 years ago regarding they have never seen it.. It’s bull…..
Anyways glad you’re informing people as these places prey upon ignorant first time buyers.

I was about to go visit a Boston there on Friday. A vet friend of ours was talking to us and mentioned Laughlin as a puppy mill. Went and did research. Cancelled the apt. Very disappointed to not have a pup for xmas, but not about to support this questionable establishment.

If you really want to give a dog a home why not rescue one? They make better dogs. Rescue or adopt don’t shop

What do you think happens when you post the “goods” before an investigation? Way to work it.

I guess fact checking is not part of a “turtle” story. Wow. Just wow. Why do you think no one in authority takes this seriously?

I think what they are saying is they think this employee set this kennel up. It is a title strange that this person would video tape this but not report it. He does not seem credible. Food for thought.

Well interesting. Saying this should be come sooner…we’ve been telling him. And to old of complaints to do anything…that mastiff pup is clearly animal abuse. Stuffed into a crate too small as he keeps growing. I used to work at Starwood kennels in Oxford. Its a boarding kennel, but the owner bred several breeds. You could eat off the floor. Every dog had something to lay on, towel, sheet dog bed…etc. Crates & kennels were scrubbed every day. Its the owners responsibility to make sure their business is reputable. Laughlin is not. We are protesting again Saturday December 19th @ 11. Last week’s protest was huge. Channel 7 news came & T&G….stay tuned….more to come

      Excellent point.

It is good to expose this woman, but at the same time, the legal system is slow as Hell, and by the time Mr Cahill acquires a search warrant and is able to fully investigate, records will likely be destroyed, moved to a place there is no warrant for, and the mill will likely be last minute “swept under the rug” cleaned up to avoid further investigation.

I wish TB would have sent this information out and gotten a response before posting. That way she would have enjoyed some much needed Turtle Rider ridicule and exposure while also giving Mr Cahill to prosecute her for being an evil animal abuser and a fraud.
