We’re living in a world today where kids have perfected the art of dooshnozzelry. We’ve all been bullied before. And if you haven’t, then you were probably one of the dooshnozzles. The worst of course is when puberty kicks in. Shit gets real when that happens. Now if you’re heterosexual and you think puberty was bad for you, think of what it’s like to go through puberty and NOT be straight. Because the fact of the matter is that it’s pretty much assumed that when you’re born, you’re gonna be straight. For the most part when someone has a little baby boy they don’t dream of them growing up marrying another dude. Thus coming out of the closet and gaining acceptance can be a harrowing experience.

So kids who are dealing with bullying based on their sexual orientation need your support. That’s where Sterling Royal Apparel comes in. This is a fairly new local business on Chandler Street founded by Elizabeth Silverberg. They are doing what they can to prevent bullying by offering primarily unisex skater clothing. Their primary focus is on gender equality. They sponsor skaters, snowboarders, and BMX riders, who in turn promote positivity in their communities.

Growing up Liz went to a place on Chandler Street called Safe Homes, which provides counseling and a safe haven to at risk youths. Now that Liz is an adult she’s trying to give back to the community that’s given her so much. Her primary goal at Sterling Royal is to guide local teens to pick up sports as a way to stay safe and off the streets. They hold events as often as possible and do a lot of giveaways to help out kids who may not be able to afford their clothing. Basically they’re really nice people who actually care about their community.

Liz helped organize a fundraiser which will take place on March 14th from 6-9 PM at Impact Skate Park in West Warwick, RI. BMX pro Kevin Robinson owns the park and has agreed to host the lucky skate/BMX Jam at the facility. It’s open to all ages and anyone who’s into that sort of thing is invited. It is a $25 admission with contests, giveaways, and raffles, but all proceeds will go to the Safe Homes in Worcester. Come out and support a great cause.
