So get this. Margaret (Peg) Holcomb, an 81 year old from Amherst, MA grew a single (ONE) pot plant tucked away in her garden next to her raspberry bushes. She used the marijuana for medical purposes…glaucoma, arthritis and to help her sleep at night.
According to the Daily Hampshire Gazette, a team of Massachusetts State Police along with the National Guard troops raided her home to seize the plant. THE PLANT! I shit you not, this raid reportedly included a helicopter and ground troops. I mean COME ON this cannot be real life. This grandmother’s pot plant was sitting alongside Peter Cottontail in her garden nestled behind her raspberry bushes and was confiscated by authorities. The sole use of this plant was to help her feel better because she’s getting old.

As all turtle riders know, we are not one to bash our Law Enforcement officers. We respect them wholeheartedly but I have to say this is certainly not a fine use of Turtleboy’s tax dollars.
From what I gather Grandma Peg has grown this single pot plant for many years and it fell victim to a marijuana eradication operation that was conducted in Western Mass. Luckily she wasn’t home during this raid as she may have had a damn near heart attack from all the commotion. Her son Tim Holcomb was at the home at the time of the raid and explained that he heard a low flying helicopter that was shaking the house and a few minutes later the home was surrounded by law enforcement explaining that they were there to seize the marijuana plant.
It’s like Grandma Peg is this big time drug lord. Nope, just a little old grandma living in western MA trying to enjoy her last years on this planet by smoking some pot. According to the @BostonHerald Peg also uses her homegrown marijuana to make tea.
Can’t we let Grandma Peg chill with her tea and watch Antique Roadshow?

Clearly this old woman is just ramping up to be the drug kingpin of New England. A regular Heisenberg.
Advice for granny, next time, grow it in the back bedroom under a grow light, keep the shade closed so the military drone can’t see it
So, how can this happen without the police getting a warrant? They just waltz onto her property and seize something without a warrant? Inquiring minds want to know !
I feel so much safer knowing that I will no longer be at risk of being harmed by her.
Seriously, I am a supporter of the police, but this is going too far. If they really wanted to conduct a raid, they should simply storm any college dormitory.
Amazing the amount of resources used for one plant.
Would have been simpler to take an F-22 and guide a 1000 lb bomb into her property. The weed woulda have been destroyed and the message delivered. Much more expensive but impressive.
If it’s OK for Obama to target innocent folks in Syria and Yemen, why can’t it be done here? Fair is fair!
They could have knocked on her door and asked for it. I’m sure she would have given it to the ONE police officer that would be needed to remove it.
Also, that’s not fair showing Stephen King arguing at the Bangor Town Hall.
We’re going through 70’s crazy with new media tech..sucks for police.
Adapt, Improvise and Overcome!
$100 civil fine.
heroes, all of them
I bet, if you count all the man hours during the raid, equipment mobilizations, and planning before hand, this raid costs more than $100K. Unbelievable waste of tax payer funding. You could have let granny here enjoy her plant and easily have afforded to hire an additional police officer. How many times does this happen? I’m all in for LEO support, but the administration that supported this raid need to be called to the carpet and humiliated. Non-violent crimes with nobody being affected… should be a written warning delivered by hand by an officer and the confiscation of the plant.
Even non-violent crimes are dangerous to Officers. Look at all the idiots who run from simple traffic tickets causing shootings and crashes. You could walk up to give this non-violent crime warrant and get shot.
I don’t think that’s true, only innocent blacks get shot, I saw it on the Twitter
Seriously… they’d find far more weed at the UMass Central residential area than they would in this ladies garden… And don’t even get me started on “Puff”ton Village…
