Earlier this year we shared the story about Oxford High School’s Boys Basketball team and their inspirational leader Sammy Budd. Although Sammy doesn’t score any baskets or block any shots, he’s the guy on the team that everyone rallies behind nonetheless, which is why they got him a pair of Jordan’s for Christmas. And he lost his mind!!!

Me Shaun McCarthy Jarod Schutrick decided to hook our man Sam Bud up with some CG 12s for Christmas!Deserves it, love this kid

Beautiful thing right there.

Well the OHS basketball team had themselves one hell of a season. After winning the Central Mass Division 3 championship, they went on to defeat Western MA champ Hoosac Valley Regional in the State Semifinal. Finally yesterday they went up against Eastern MA champion Bishop Stang in the D3 State Championship before falling 80-64. Simply making it that far is an accomplishment in and of itself, and the historic run will go down as one of the greatest moments in Oxford High School’s history. And Sammy Budd was there for each and every game:

Sammy was there with them for the good times,

And he had his teammates backs as their historic run came to an end yesterday:

Just a great, great story from Oxford. People like Sammy are just as human as the rest of us. Their lives just come with more challenges. But it doesn’t stop him from being happier than 99% of people we’ve ever met, as well as being a great friend an even better person.  Congrats to Sammy Budd and congrats to the Oxford boy’s basketball team and their coaching staff.

What a ride this season was and with every game Sammy was there getting everyone excited before the boys even came out! He was an inspiration to this team and to my son, Nikolas. Sammy shared every emotion that the boys had as seen in many of the photos. I lost so many tears not only because I know that this is the last time my baby boy will be playing in high school; it was in addition to the fact that we probably won’t be seeing the kids all together anymore. They may all stay friends, but not seeing them on those courts with Sammy just tugs at my heart. I love you guys 🙂
