Jets fans (and fans of the other 30 teams who are not blessed by God Himself) simply will not shut the fuck up about the fact that the Jets did what they always do today – lose to the Patriots. In particular they’re blaming it on a fumble, which was initially ruled a touchdown, by Jets tight end Austin Sefarian-Jenkins, and which appeared to make the scored 24-21 Patriots in the 4th quarter:

Even some Patriots fans in a vain attempt to show the world that they’re one of the “good ones,” is claiming the Jets got screwed there.

Except they didn’t get it wrong. They got it right. So right it hurts. And it’s not even remotely debatable:

Seferian-Jenkins bobbles the ball at the 1-yard line and subsequently re-controls the ball. The bobble makes the ball a “loose ball” under the rules. Any loose ball (which includes passes) follows the catch process to establish possession. It may seem like an arbitrary designation, but this is a clear way to bookend loose ball calls by keeping all loose balls consistent, no matter how they occur. Seferian-Jenkins is going to the ground as he regains control of the ball, and lands out of bounds in the end zone. This takes the ball, still considered loose, out of bounds in the end zone, which is a touchback and loss of possession.

Was there indisputable evidence in replay to make the decision, though? While Corrente is a bystander in the centralized replay process, he is responsible for relaying the call from the home office. “Well, we went through two or three primary looks and then this other shot came up,” Corrente told a pool reporter after the game. “When the other shot came up, it was just ‘boom, boom, boom.’ It was a pretty quick determination. It was pretty obvious.”

Corrente: The final shot that we saw was from the end zone that showed the New York Jets’ runner, we’ll call him a runner at that point, with the football starting to go toward the ground. He lost the ball. It came out of his control as he was almost to the ground. Now he re-grasps the ball and by rule, now he has to complete the process of a recovery, which means he has to survive the ground again. So in recovering it, he recovered, hit the knee, started to roll and the ball came out a second time. So the ball started to move in his hands this way, he’s now out of bounds in the end zone, which now created a touchback. So he didn’t survive the recovery and didn’t survive the ground during the recovery is what happened here.

“It was pretty obvious.” Translation – easiest call you’ll ever make.

Look, I don’t agree with the rule. At worst that should’ve been Jets ball at the one yard line. It’s a huge momentum swing for a ball that never ended up in the Patriot’s possession. But facts are facts and rules are rules. Both teams agreed to play by these rules and now they have to live with them. Even ASJ agrees:

Once again, ball comes out before he crosses the goal line:

At this point he now has to gain possession of the ball and land in bounds with possession. That means either both of his feet or another part of his body has to land in the end zone while he possesses the football. This is now what inbounds looks like:

How is this even being debated? You can’t fumble the ball across the goal line like a fucking hot potato. You have to possess it. Want the touchdown? Hold onto the ball. Im genuinely curious how anyone can say he was in possession of that ball while in the end zone? How is it not a fumble he clearly fumbled the ball? How was in bounds when he was clearly out of bounds? What fucking planet am I living on where this is even being discussed?

But of course since it’s the Patriots the Internet is losing its God damn mind:

That guy deserves to be miserable for being born a Jets fan. You think you’re gonna get the refs to make the WRONG call to help out a disgraceful group of misfits who haven’t won a Super Bowl in 50 years? That’s not how God works. God blesses those he loves the most. And no one disagrees that He obviously loves us more than anyone else. I mean, come on now. We were down 28-3 in the Super Bowl and we won. That doesn’t happen to teams that God is indifferent about.

Look, I get it. That looked like a touchdown at first. But the fact of the matter is that it wasn’t. And all the whining in the world isn’t gonna change that. Regardless, the best the Jets could’ve hoped for was overtime. And if you think for one second we were gonna lose to the Jets in overtime then you may have that “disease” that’s been going around.

In all seriousness though, we got problems dude. Josh freaking McCown treated our defense like a North Korean sex slave. He did whatever he wanted to do whenever he wanted to do it. Particularly on third down. That was his preferred raping time.

On the bright side, who doesn’t have problems? I’ve never seen so much mediocrity in this league than I have this year. Kansas City, the lone undefeated team, just lost to a team at home who has gotten murdered by the Bears and Jaguars. The Falcons just blew a 17-0 lead to the Dolphins and Jay freaking Cutler, at home. The Giants, who are without their top four wide receivers and are an abomination to football, somehow won at Denver. Aaron Rodgers is out for the season and the Packers are fucked. The Raiders are back to being horrible again.

Luckily our problems will get fixed because we have the greatest coach who has ever lived and God loves us more. Everyone else is fucked. Business as usual.

I hate the jets like everyone else but im afraid youre wrong turtleboy. Take the pink hat off. He was indeed a runner a d it was ruled a td. The evidence to overturn when he momentarily lost control was in fact NOT visible at all. Refs got this wrong, just wait and see. Bad bad call.
