It’s been 48 hours since Vanessa Marcotte’s alleged killer was arrested for her rape (but not yet charged with her murder for some reason) on August 7. And the District Attorney’s office is deliberately leading citizens and the media in the wrong direction. For starters, the first name they released was Angel Cabrera Ortiz. Thus there was initially a lot of misinformation:

Later on in the day his name became Angel Colon-Ortiz, followed shortly thereafter by Angelo Colon-Ortiz. This person appears to have no one who knows him, no “free my boi,” no pictures of him released, and no comment from the DA’s office about his immigration status. Here’s what Joe Early has given us:

“Early Jr said that Colon-Ortiz was working near where Marcotte was killed on the day of her brutal death, but there is precious little other information on the man. He has no criminal history and the DA is unsure whether he is a US citizen.”

Who “works near” Brooks Station Road in Princeton? There’s no jobs in Princeton. No one lives there. The only reason that you’d be “working near” there were if you were a mailman, a FedEx delivery guy, a Wachusett Mountain worker, or a town employee. Quite frankly it sounds like it was a delivery driver, since they were found in Worcester. When the Tsarnaevs were killed/captured we knew everything about them within hours and even had a legendary interview with Uncle Ruslan to go along with it. For the guy who killed a woman for no reason nine months ago the DA gives us nothing.

How is there no picture available? The Ware, Springfield, and even CT State Police post pictures of everyone they arrest on Facebook. Why is the DA’s office deliberately keeping this guy’s face a mystery? He’s a murderer and a rapist, and we have a right to know who he is. Instead they’re letting the Internet speculate. You have no idea how many people have sent us Facebook profiles for guys name Angelo Ortiz or Angel Ortiz or Angel Colon in the last 48 hours. Because of Early’s silence there are innocent people who are being speculated about as murderers. One man’s photograph has been shared by Fox News. Spoiler alert – it’s not him.

And seriously, how hard is it to confirm that Angelo Ortiz is a U.S. citizen? Dude has almost no digital footprint. We can’t search him on our own. We just had an illegal immigrant murder a Worcester elementary school teacher two months ago. Early’s office also badly fucked up the Jorge Zambrano case by letting him out of jail because it “wasn’t working for him.” Wouldn’t you want to quell any rumors about him being here illegally? How hard is it to do a simple background search on this scum so you can let the general public know that he is indeed here legally? Seems like that would be a priority. Unless of course they’re hiding something.

We have been told by several sources that he graduated from North High School and was enrolled in ESL classes. Yet he can’t speak English and requires a translator (which of course the taxpayers will pay for)? Sounds like more money well spent.

And the way they allegedly found this shithead is sketchy as well. Here’s their story:

An alert Massachusetts State Police trooper recently spotted a dark-colored SUV matching the description of the one witnesses saw near the crime scene last August and wrote the license plate number down on his hand to follow-up, District Attorney Joseph Early said at a press conference. Early said the trooper, identified by MassLive.com as Robert Parr, went to the suspect’s apartment and left his card, asking for a return phone call that was never made.

Trooper Parr, who is assigned to the District Attorney’s office, then went back to the apartment the next day and Angelo Colon-Ortiz voluntarily gave a “buccal swab” for his DNA. The match to the DNA obtained from Vanessa Marcotte’s hand to the swab from Colon-Ortiz was confirmed Friday, Early said. The trooper saw the SUV while driving in Worcester.

“It just goes to the job these people do every day,” Early said. “This is a guy, this information was put out, he was driving in Worcester, he knew we were looking for a dark SUV and a Hispanic male. He saw it, he immediately reached for a piece of paper, didn’t have a piece of paper, he went to his hand, wrote the plate down on the hand.”

I’m not saying this isn’t how it happened. State Troopers are extremely thorough and constantly run plates. But just the way the DA is telling this story seems like it’s designed to make him look good. He put out the extremely vague dark colored SUV driven by a middle aged Latino guy alert. Do you understand how many dark colored SUV’s are driven by middle aged Latino guys? All of them. That’s a lot of license plates to put on your hand. But by claiming that this was how they found him, it makes it look like Early’s tip led to his capture. So basically he’s giving us information that makes him look good, but not saying anything about information that could make him look bad.

Anyway, I’d love to not speculate about this gruesome crime. But our District Attorney is a politician with an agenda, so it looks like he wants to make sure that’s all the public can do right now.

You got it all wrong. Innocent
man framed. Google did it. That’s why secrecy. Look up the mysterious deaths of the 2 other Googlers: Chuchu Ma and Scott Krulcik. Justice for Mr Colon-ortiz, an easy scapegoat for racist Americans to blame…meanwhile Google gets away again…

Just read an article, neighbor speaks out. All it says is he lived downstairs with a wife and couple of kids. Surely there are some turtleriders with more to tell. I believe we will learn about it here first.

The DA’s office used Parabon NanoLabs, a DNA technology company, in Virginia to conduct Snapshot DNA phenotyping for Vanessa Marcotte’s case. In February 2017 the DA’s office released a verbal / written description of the suspect based on DNA taken from the crime scene.

Quoted from NECN “According to Greytak (of Parabon Labs) they always produce an image of the person they have tested. However, investigators in Princeton did not release one Thursday.”
What??? Did the DA’s office send the phenotype suspect picture to members of LE only- is that why the trooper zeroed in on Ortiz so quickly?
Interestingly in 2016 Hampden County DA also used Parabon to help solve the cold case murder of Lisa Zeigert and immediately shared the suspect DNA phenotype picture to the public at a press conference.
Why all the secrecy in Vanessa’s case?

I assume because Zeigert’s is a decades-old cold case with no leads and her killer
possibly no longer alive, while Marcotte’s is fresh with her killer obviously still
close by. Maybe they were afraid he may change his looks. People saw the killer that
day stalking Vanessa and following her in his SUV. Maybe there was something unique
about him/his car that they were told to look out for.

They took DNA from a lot of people. Relatives that had an SUV and had driven down brooks station weeks after wards were found and 3 men from one household were taken in , questioned and DNA tested. So everyone and their brother has been looking for and reporting like vehicles and men. I am not surprised he submitted a sample , he thought he had burned all possible evidence , clearly he was wrong.

It’s a crock of shit. Guaranteed the freaks an illegal and Healy told this guy to hide it. I guarantee this guy they got will be let go because of some supposed mishap and they’ll say “Yes our suspect was an illegal, but now he’s an illegal who didn’t do it!” While patting each other on the back, Just because they don’t want another illegal sleazebag to hit the papers! Vanessa and her family should be grateful she was killed by all illegal. Like Matthew Denice, and Kate Steinle

Releasing the name and picture could help with witnesses. The fact that they could not get the name right on the first try raises the issue of aliases, which is often linked to immigration problems.

Witnesses would be shown photographs in the form of a photo array. 8 to 10 photographs of individuals of similar features and/or physical characteristics. That is one of many processes involved in the identification of a suspect. And those processes are not privy to media. And nor should it be.

You want a success outcome in cases of this magnitude. Rubber neckers, like the media, need to just move along and allow the legal proceedings to endure without distractions or interference. Transparency is a great thing in police work but sensitivity to the integrity of an ongoing investigation is another. That is a fine line that you, as an investigator or media spokes person, do not want to cross or else you blow it big time. And then is no turning back from that.

Then the bad guy skates = bad job.

I agree with everything in this article.
I am hoping, though that they haven’t released his picture because his face and skull are bashed in from the beating they gave him. Maybe they knew he’d have a few days to heal before arraignment. Doubtful but we can hope.

  • April's Hopes, October's Heroes

It is an ongoing investigation into a brutal inhumane crime. Yes an arrest was made and that is great police work but there has not been any adjudication to date. So in the meantime you do not want a tainted jury if it goes that far. You don’t want to feed the defense on any media releases that they could use as prejudice. And the defense would not hesitate for one minute to do just that.

There are good reasons why the public are left in the dark. I’d like to see a fair, balanced and unbiased legal proceeding. And with the media, so eager to get the scoop, that could hinder that process. That is the very last thing the family of Vanessa Marcotte wants.

We will find out more in due time when it is appropriate. But for now being impatient wanting to get everything the prosecuting team has could, and more than likely would, result in a NG (Not Guilty).

Well they have said that “they have the guy”. That to me says that the investigation is over. There is no reason to not release the picture of the guy and address. By not releasing any information on this guy is going to draw a lot of criticism towards the DA’s office and it’s deserved. There seems to be a lot of loose ends. If the guy isn’t in the system and his DNA isn’t in the system then how did they randomly decide that particular guy in the dark colored SUV was their guy? I really hope this is the guy but I have my doubts..

The story of how they got him is just weird. There’s probably
thousands of guys with the suspects description, and of all places they
found him, Worcester? Makes me wonder if he was on their radar for
a while, maybe for something else?

So… I live in Princeton close to the murder and there was a driveway being paved at that time. There’s also many folks who pay for yard work…. just waiting to hear if he was one of those guys!

  • The Executioner
    April 17, 2017 at 11:13 am

The DA’s whole story seems suspicious to me…they pull in a hispanic guy that drives a dark colored SUV and his DNA just happens to be a match after he voluntarily submits it? How many Hispanic guys drive dark colored SUV’s and what’s the chance that they would just happen upon the perp? I have suspicions that the DA’s office tampered with DNA evidence just to get the heat off their back and possibly framed this guy. It just all seems way too convenient to happen as they describe…

Unless the state trooper was on the road she was killed and spotted the guy. Still can’t figure out why he doesn’t carry a note pad though.

      • Francesco Sagnibene
        April 19, 2017 at 6:55 pm

He was in the middle of a traffic stop writing up someone else. Probably should have had a small extra pad in his pocket, but he was focused primarily on the person he stopped and his safety with this person and in traffic. Been in the same situation, and you don’t always have the time with everything else happening. You get the info written as quickly as possible. Not saying something else isn’t going on with this case but notes on the hand unfortunately occur often.

I also wonder how many DNA samples they took of other possible
suspects. In the Vetrano case in NY they took over 500….
I know they took one of some guy in Princeton back in August.

They took hundreds of swabs. Anybody who’s cell phone pinged the towers in the area were asked to submit a swab. My sister was hiking Mt Wachusett that afternoon and made a call and they asked me to submit for a swab and I live 30 miles away. Her phone is on my plan so my name came up. I know others who were living in the area also gave samples

So I have friends in Worcester and they think they know where he (killer) lived
(a lot of police activity lately) and in the Google maps photo there’s
a weird-looking black SUV and the address is linked to a construction
company. Probably this guy was doing some sort of construction type
work, all I can think of. If I end up being right I’ll tell you the address.
