WBZ: A heartbreaking video of a mother lying unconscious on a store floor while her little girl tried to revive her has led to criminal charges. The video obtained by Lawrence Police shows a crying 2-year-old girl trying to wake up her mom after the woman collapsed from an apparent drug overdose in an aisle of a Family Dollar store in Lawrence Sunday morning. A clerk called 911 and paramedics arrived a short time later. They revived the woman with Narcan, which is used to reverse opiate overdoses.
Police told WBZ-TV they are not releasing the woman’s name at this point in the investigation. She is 36 years old and lives in Salem, New Hampshire. She will be charged with child endangerment. Investigators said they do not have enough evidence to charge her with any drug-related violations. Lawrence police say the incident shows the darkest side of drug addiction that officers have seen. “It’s very disturbing to see someone like this. It’s obvious addiction has overtaken them, to the point of not being able to care for their child,” said Chief James Fitzpatrick. In a nearby diaper bag police found baggies and straws with residue from either fentanyl or heroin they say the woman likely inhaled.
A woman is passed out in the middle of a Family Dollar, no one speaks English, but everyone’s got an iPhone. Welcome to Lawrence, Massachusetts.
That video is heartbreaking to watch. Poor freaking kid, born into this shit. Probably not the first time she’s seen this happen. It will be almost impossible for her not to become another statistic. The odds are so stacked against her as it is.
And what the hell is wrong with the people filming this? I understand that they’re not doctors and I certainly don’t blame them for trying to save this addict’s life. But they couldn’t help comfort the two year old girl? I couldn’t even watch that for more than five seconds without feeling sick to my stomach. How hard is it to pick the girl up and get her out of there instead of having her stand there poking her mother like she’s Goddamn Moofasa.
Anyway, people are all fired up about this. Let’s check out a couple dumb comments on the Facebook machine:
First of all, I’m glad the media outlets are covering it. Heroin ain’t pretty. This is the shit people need to see. If it saves one person from injecting that poison then it’s worthwhile. As for the lack of concern over the passed out junkie mom being recorded without her permission, is this chick for real? You want her corpse to sign a waiver? Don’t wanna be filmed and put on the news? Don’t pass out from a heroin overdose in the middle of a Family Dollar. If she was having a heart attack, seizure, or a diabetic episode then absolutely people should’ve helped her. But what did you want these people to do? Give her nasty ass CPR? Who knows where she’s been.
Shaming people? Fuck her, she should be shamed. She’s a disgrace. Why would anyone be concerned about the feelings of a deadbeat loser who cares more about getting high than she does about her own children? Oh wait, I forgot, you can’t shit on drug addicts because it’s a disease. Like cancer. Except they choose to start this addiction at some point. Lots of people choose to have cancer too. Definitely the same thing.
Oh yea, and all these people whining about WBZ posting this video all watched it. They all partook in it. They commented on the Facebook page, and thus it showed up in all of their friend’s feeds. People like these whining losers are the reason that WBZ posts videos like this. If you watched it then you’re just part of the mob too. Get over yourselves.
