So apparently at the Springfield Sci-Tech High School prom two high school lovers named Nathan Arzola and Marco Sierra proposed to one another on the dance floor:

A lot of people are celebrating how wonderful this is, but don’t be fooled – this is the dumbest thing that has ever happened in the history of the world. And no, it has nothing to do with the fact that they are gay. My initial thought when I saw the headline was “this is the dumbest thing that has ever happened in the history of the world.” That’s when I thought it was some dumbass lovestruck boy proposing to some stupid girl who gave him a promise ring. The fact that it’s two boys changes nothing.

It’s a free country so you can do whatever you want. But the fact of the matter is that when you’re 18 you are as free as it gets, and these two just signed up to be imprisoned. I’d do just about anything to be 18 again, and so would most people reading this. What’s not to like? The world is your playground. You can make out with as many people as you want with zero consequence. You can go wherever you please and you have to answer to no one. It was great.

Fast forward to marriage and everything is changed. By then you’ve come to terms with the fact that you will never be with another person for eternity. But it’s cool because you got it all out of your system when you were younger and now you’ve got kids and you’ve learned to like to do other things that don’t involve getting wasted and chasing tail.

But these kids haven’t. They just took the first thing that came along and got engaged because they don’t know any better. And you simply cannot tell a high school kid that thinks they’re in love that they’re making a dumb choice. Because a teenager who thinks they have the whole world figured out is an immovable force of nature. Oh well, looks like they’re just gonna have to learn the hard way that they’re blowing the best years of their life on something they could’ve held off on for 15 years. Sucks to be them. Hopefully they don’t rush into their second marriages this fast.

One last thing I haven’t figured out yet with gay marriage is, who proposes to who? Like, whose idea was this proposal? Is it mutual? Because it looks like both these kids got down on their knees and popped the question. They were both prepared for it. And who is the one that walks down the aisle? Whose father gives away whom? I feel like I should know the answers to these questions but I don’t.

P.S. How the hell can you afford a ring if you’re a high school kid from Springfield? What was in that box? An IOU?

The thought of marrying any of the girls I dated in high school always seemed like the most ridiculous thing in the world to me. You’ve gotta have a weird bleak outlook on your future if you think the best catch in the world is someone you meet in highschool…jesus.

I’m 33, I’ve been with my wife for 9 years, celebrated our 5 year anniversary yesterday. I dated many others before I met her. It is important to a successful marriage, in my opinion, to A: get that out of your system and B: get a better understanding of what it’s like to be in a relationship with another person…because it isn’t an easy thing to do.

I know there are some success stories where marrying your high school sweetheart works out…but I just never thought it would be a good idea….and no one else my age, back in high school, thought it would be a great idea either.

These kids, and so many other like them these days, are getting married because marriage doesn’t mean what it used to (and i am NOT talking about gay marriage…i FULLY support gay marriage). Marriage isn’t easy, and it takes an effort on both people to make it work and last. The divorce rate is ridiculously high; because people get in a couple fights – and then instead of trying to work through their problems, they just say “fuck it, let’s just get divorced. That’s way easiser than trying.”

Yeah, I know, I know – it doesn’t ALWAYS happen that way. Just don’t rush into marriage, make sure you’ve enjoyed you’re life for a while, and make sure you can stand the person you plan to marry before you do it. The kids in this story, presumably, still live with their parents…they have NO IDEA if they’ll be able to actually live with each other.

Young adults do not take marriage seriously anymore. It’s just a thing to do for more attention. It’s taken about as serious as getting a new apt or a new job. Meh.

LOL TB, got down on their knees, blowing the best years of their lives, sucks to be them. Good use of descriptive terms.
At least they can both use the same public bathroom. For now anyway.

Little off topic, but to follow up on the Dear John letter was the , honey, guess what? you’re going to be a daddy, I’m pregnant! It must have happened when you were home on leave. Sure, she might be expecting, but who’s the daddy?

Pump the brakes people. They got engaged. We all know people that have gotten engaged and then called the whole thing off. My generation, I’m a baby boomer, had to deal with the draft and military service. Lover boy ends up in the service and then gets a Dear John letter and goes to pieces. “But we were going to get married, she loved me and was going to wait”. If it wasn’t the service, it was going away to college and a whole new world opens up. I wouldn’t be looking for wedding pictures from these two love struck hotties.

In June my husband and I celebrate 19 years together. I am 35………. I didn’t get that single experience. He is 5 years older, he did get that experience and thinks he’s fucking cooler than me lol. I wouldn’t change it for the world, but I caution young people to wait until they are in their mid to late 20s to settle down unless they get lucky with a good one at a younger age, which is RARE in today’s world.

Idiots. They will be broken up by July and back together again in a few weeks, rinse and repeat.

Um… I was 15 when I met him in January of 97, he was 20. I told him I was 17 turning 18 in May. We did not start dating until June when he thought it was after I turned 18 already. I lied to him for well over 1 year and didn’t tell him until I knew he loved me enough not to leave. The lies were so hard because he wanted to “pick me up for lunch during college classes” when I was still in H.S. – lmao oh well, I was young and dumb.

I was wrong, he left when I told him, but after 1 month of begging him to come back he caved in. I called and cried everyday like a huge pussy. Plus in the 90s it was not as frowned upon as you think.

Way to assume he was a pedophile though. Believe me, he was disgusted and angry but also very in love at that point and with my mother’s approval, he came back. Can’t say it was a bad thing seeing as how 19 years later I’m still deeply in love, same for him.

You’re welcome for the cliff notes on my life story.

      I’m 35 as well.

Not married for 19 years though, married for almost 4. It’s my 2nd marriage too, because I was a dumb fuck and got married when I had just turned 24.

        Turned 35 on the 13th!

We have been together 19 years but ONLY married for 4 years lol… we took a long time neither of us really know why either! One day we were just like, “Hey, think we should get married eventually huh?” Lol…

Well hopefully 2nd times a charm John lol… unless you enjoy alimony payments! 😉

You know, there was a time when youth learned from the mistakes their parents and elders made. Getting married when young was certainly one of them. Hell, for a while it was common knowledge that you don’t get married until you’re a responsible gainfully employed adult.

But then something happened… millennials. And now, the single most stupid generation of morons has befallen the world, and is upon us. There is so much wrong with this generation it’s troubling to even think about. But I don’t entirely blame them. Their parents were helicopter-hovering dooshnozzles, and their teachers were bereft of wisdom. Ugh. The list goes on. Poor souls.

    Good luck in holy matrimony!
