In today’s episode of Joe Petty’s “our streets are safe,” we bring you this story from Masslive:

Seven men armed with guns barged their way into a Circuit Avenue East home Monday, tied up the people inside and pepper sprayed them while demanding money, according to Worcester Police. Two girls, ages 7 and 15, were home at the time of the home invasion. Officers were called to Circuit Avenue East around 10 p.m. for a report of a home invasion. A 34-year-old man said he was watching television with a 31-year-old male relative when he heard a noise at the door. The man saw his 34-year-old wife being forced inside the home by seven men behind her, police said.

“Once inside, the wife was forced to the ground while the two male occupants were assaulted,” Worcester Police said in a news release. “The 34-year-old male was struck on the head with what he believed to the handle of a gun. The two men were then forced to the ground as well. All three were sprayed in the face with pepper spray so that they couldn’t see the suspects.”

Police were told all seven men carried guns. The men demanded cash and searched the home. The female victim headed to the second floor before the men began searching the home in order to be with her daughters. The two girls and their mother were taken into a bedroom.

“The suspects then took the two males into another bedroom and were tied up,” police said. “The suspects ransacked the house.”

Police said the men stole a small amount of cash and other valuables. Worcester EMS treated the victims. One man was treated for a minor head injury.

First things first. Circuit Ave East ain’t the ghetto. That’s a picture of it from Google Earth write above. It’s the same neighborhood where that kid Dobbie was breaking into cars last weekend. There’s a school (Columbus Park) less than a quarter mile from there. It’s a working class, blue-collar neighborhood. So all of this nonsense that your neighborhood is safe as long as you don’t live in gang town would be hilarious if it weren’t so dangerous.

Secondly, something doesn’t add up here. Who brings seven guys to a home invasion if the bounty isn’t gigantic? They committed a crime that can get them all sent to prison for a long time over a small amount of cash and a couple iPads? That’s worth the risk? Doesn’t make sense. And what did they need 7 guys for? Either the guy they targeted was a drug dealer with a huge stash of cash and weapons that he chose not to report to the police, or the seven home invaders had some bad intel and went into the wrong house. Take a wild guess which one is more likely.

Thirdly, I have no idea who the victims were, but let’s PRAY that they were involved in some shady business. Because the second this starts happening to normal, law abiding citizens we’re all fucked.

Lastly, the fact that there are minors involved in this is disgusting. A seven and 15 year old kid shouldn’t have to live through something like this. If it turns out that the people living there were in fact drug dealers then the mom should have her kids taken away from her. Anyone who allows their kids to live with drug dealers is an asshole and should be arrested for child abuse and reckless endangerment. They’re gonna have some SEVERE emotional trauma as a result of this. Can you imagine having seven masked men burst into your house, pepper spray your parents, ransack your bedroom, and then tie everyone up? How do you ever recover from that?

The facts matter remain the same – the city isn’t safe. Anyone who says it is and points to a chart is lying to you, and they’re doing it for personal gain. I’m not saying that there is an easy fix solution to this, but the first thing you have to do is identify that you have a problem. Mayor Puddy can’t do that because he needs to give Worcester voters the illusion that they live in a relatively safe city in order to get reelected. His donors and the people who vote in the highest numbers live in an isolated world, far away from this stuff. To them, it might be safe. But the rest of us see the reality in front of us and say that we want change.

The City isn’t safe. Name a safe neighborhood and Pubi will set you straight. And no, a street is not a neighborhood. The Woo once had neighborhoods, some good, now no neighborhoods, just a few good streets.

Maybe the victims weren’t totally honest about what was taken? “Oh ya officers they made off with about a dozen fingers of dope and a half ki of raw, give or take a few grams”. Turtleboy: Home of the lowest common denominator

I would suggest that it was the swat team paying them a visit, but these guys sound like they were more polite than swat.
