Turtlegram: A man was shot in the head on Water Street early Saturday during an apparent mugging, police said. The victim told police he was working on his car. Police responded to the area of 28 Water Street at 2:25 a.m. for a report of a possible shooting. In the parking lot of the Canal Lofts, they found a 28-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the head. Police said preliminary investigation shows the victim was putting antifreeze in his car when a man approached him with a handgun.
“When the victim handed over his wallet, the suspect fired the gun at the victim,” police said.
The assailant fled, the victim told police. Emergency radio communications indicate the victim called police himself to report the shooting.
“The victim is the one who called it in, and he right now is dealing with a gunshot wound to the face,” one officer said over the radio.
Police said their investigation is ongoing and that there is limited suspect description” at this time. The victim was taken to the hospital with a non-life threatening injury, they said.
Saw this story this past weekend and didn’t write about it. Why? Because this is just what happens in Worcester in the summer. People get shot by hoodlums. We’re sick of writing about it and then listening to our elected leaders tell us that “our streets are safe.” Then morons on the West Side who are far removed from this sort of danger keep voting in Joe Petty and crew because that’s what they have been trained to do.
But this is Goddamn Water Street man. This is the part of town that is allegedly the center of Worcester’s economic redevelopment. There are tons of bars and restaurants down there, including two Turtleboy sponsors who do great business (Smokestack Barbecue and Union Tavern). Who is gonna risk going out to the bars now if they know there’s a chance they’ll get shot in the face? No way I’m going down there at that time now. Not unless I know that the City Manager is taking steps to make sure that this place is policed like a Trump rally.
What is the Mayor and City Manager doing about this? We know they’re really good at holding vigils, building $3 million bike paths to nowhere, and posting for pictures while shoveling with a golden shovel. But when are they gonna get tough on crime? Is that not a priority? It’s one thing when gangstas shoot gangstas. But it’s something completely different when some innocent guy putting anti-freeze in his car gets shot after going out for a drink with his friends. That’s when the city needs to get tougher on this garbage. Let the police off their leash. Let them start cracking skulls and bringing suspects into the basement of the police station until they give up names. Old school policing.
And apparently race was a factor in this:
If this is true…..WOW!! Imagine for one second if this was the other way around. If a person of color was robbed and shot by some skinhead because their skin color offended him. Petty and Augustus would be having a vigil right now and fake Reverends like Aaron Payson and Sarai Rivera would be blaming Turtleboy’s “hate speech” for motivating the shooter. They blamed us for the Charlestown Massacre, so this would DEFINITELY be on us.
But since it’s some white guy who got shot in the face (and somehow is alive and called the police) it’s not even mentioned by the Turtlegram. Typical.
We urge you to support the Turtleboy Sponsors by doing business with them. Without them none of this is possible. Click on any of them to check out their sites or Facebook pages.
