So the other day we wrote about the brilliant woman who “exposed” the vile, nasty things that were allegedly happening to people’s food at the Pho Dakao restaurant on Park Ave. The girl, who admitted to being recently fired for undisclosed reasons, was levying some pretty serious accusations. Accusations that could drive this small business completely out of business. And the only reason we wrote about it was because of how EVERYONE believed her. Literally not one single commenter suggested that she could possibly be a disgruntled ex-employee with an agenda. And for pointing out that pitch-fork wielding mobs are a bad thing, we took a world of shit from even our most loyal readers. Here were some comments we saw about this on our blog, followed by our rational, big people thoughts in bold:

Do you have proof it’s not true, yes maybe she embellished a little, but I’d be willing to bet there is some truth to her accusations, I’ve worked in food service before, I’ve seen a lot.

Oh I see. You worked in a restaurant one time. Therefore everything this girl you’ve never met before is probably true. Gotcha.

Sxnhw

I have never eaten there and can not confirm or deny her story. What I tend to believe is the story on reusing and washing out the to go cups, I also believe they reuse vegetables. Sad story but both are very common mistakes made by other Asian folks I am friendly with.

So let me get this straight. You’ve never been there before to taste the food, but yet you’re convinced that what this stranger said on Facebook is accurate because you know some other shady Asian people? Yea, that seems logical.

I’m going to assume these accusations are 100% true based on the fact that you’re trying way too hard to say that they’re not, with, again, no proof whatsoever.

Right. I have no proof that it’s a lie (until the bombshell we will drop on you at the bottom of this blog). But this is America. The burden of proof lies on the accuser, not the accused. Chau Vu said she worked there for seven years. Surely if she was concerned about the unhealthy, unsanitary conditions she must’ve documented it, right? Any pics? Nope. Any documented complaints? Nope.

Oh yea, and if there’s any doubt that this girl is a proven liar, she also posted this on Facebook:

11255761_1584215235195087_1879374154655510187_n

I mean, I think we can all agree that an “attoney” didn’t log into her Facebook and issue that hilarious manifesto right? So then we can all see with our eyes while looking at this post that the girl has a proven track record of lying on Facebook. But hey, keep backing up her story. I’m sure it’s very common for illiterate lawyers to pass the bar, start a law firm, and then instead of filing suit against a criminal restaurant, simply sign onto Facebook and let loose. That definitely happened. Definitely.

So that’s what you think of common Worcester residents? “Local morons?” Why, because they don’t agree with you or may be concerned about their health?

Actually we were mainly concerned about morons like this:

Screen Shot 2015-05-17 at 9.35.04 PM

Yes, we would rather not see someone have their face spat in by this father of the year candidate, based on unproven Facebook allegation. Guilty as charged. Anyone who was ready to spit in another person’s face because they read something from Chau Vu is obviously a moron. That’s just a fact.

2d9f0f1fcf548fb7a82841dc46c4d7cf

I’m more inclined to believe the majority of this girls story than a knee jerk reaction from TB. I’ve worked for Vietnamese people – they’re not cut from the same cloth as Caucasians, to put it mildly. I wouldn’t be AT ALL surprised if half of the things she claimed actually go on there. Reusing food? I believe it! Cheap bastards. Cutting corners at every opportunity.

There’s nothing blatantly racist about this post whatsoever. Nothing at all.

And how do YOU know it isn’t true!

I don’t know it’s not true comrade. I don’t know if Pho Dakao does nasty things to my food in the same way that I don’t know if the Boynton, The 111 Chophouse, Mezcal, or any other respected restaurant does. But this is America. It’s not my job or Pho Dakao’s job to prove that unproven allegations aren’t true. That’s a big reason why America is so awesome.

Here’s my question – where are the hippies? Calling all hippies!! Calling all hippies!! We found actual institutional racism. Where are you people on this one? Oh that’s right, some of you joined in. This one comes from a commenter who I’ve grown to respect, and just so happens to be of the liberal persuasian:

Yeah, because it’s such a stretch to believe unsanitary things are happening in restaurants all the time. We’re not talking Bigfoot here.

Right. It’s not a stretch to believe this. Because they’re Asian. If this were a spanish restaurant or fried chicken joint that everyone was jumping to conclusions about, you best believe the Circlejerk and crew would be calling up the Department of Justice for a town meeting.

The fact of the matter is that if this girl was a disgruntled ex-employee from O’Connor’s or Via, no one would believe her. But because she works at a Vietnamese restaurant on Park Ave no one questioned her except us.

But hey, that’s just how we roll at Turtleboy Sports. We stand up for small businesses and speak out against racism. Someone’s gotta do it.

I went K-12 in the Worcester Public Schools and was pretty much an honorary Asian. A bunch of my best friends growing up were Vietnamese. Half the kids in my classes were Vietnamese. They taught me how to say all the bad words and I still know em all today. So you can imagine how hurt I can get when I see my people stereotyped like this.

Are there shady Asian restaurant owners? I’m sure. Just like there are shady restaurant owners everywhere. But you can’t deny the fact that people are more likely to believe this girl’s story simply because she worked at an Asian restaurant. That’s what REAL institutional racism looks like hippies.

56807766 (1)

Anyway, despite the fact that this is America and the burden of proof is NOT on the accused, we decided to prove it anyway, just because we enjoy being right. First we interviewed the owner of the restaurant as to why Chau Vu was terminated from Pha Dakao. It turns out she was fired due to many complaints about her customer service, repeated phone use during working hours, and posting customers’ private information on Facebook because they gave her a bad tip.

Oops!!

And given that Chau Vu has a documented history of lying:

11255761_1584215235195087_1879374154655510187_n

And also seeing as she has a documented history of writing negative things about Pho Dakao on Facebook, it’s entirely believable that her former boss is telling us the truth. Yes, I realize we’ve never met him before either so he could be lying. But unlike the morons who immediately believed this girl, we based our judgement on facts and evidence. You geniuses should try that sometime.

Oh yea, and we also had a couple turtle riders do some research about Pho Dakao. Here is an inspection report of Pho Dakao from the Board of Health. You will notice that not only does the restauarant score a 94 out of 100, it was also inspected on April 7, and then reinspected on April 13:

10458735_10204217288580987_8957681787108633038_n

Both of those inspections took place over a month before this girl made her baseless allegations. This is relevant because they were suprise inspections and thus couldn’t have been a result of Pho Dakao “covering up” the health code violations that Chau Vu alleged on Facebook.

So there you have it folks. We backed up Pho Dakao because as an oppressed blogging website, we identify with other oppressed peoples. Turtleboy, Tom Brady, Pho Dakao. Innocent until proven guilty.

I respect your comment. But just know people do not need empirical evidence to know what is making them sick after eating something different. First time I let it go, second time I let it go, but third time? Nah. If you think people are going to do research to figure out why they’ve gotten food poisoning after eating at an establishment and if you think they’re gonna look at their health stats then yeah, that’s moronic. Tell it to the many people who have complained and gotten sick after dining there. I’m sure they’re gonna give you a scientific journal with a full analysis and empirical data to back up why they have diarrhea after eating there.

so the accuser decides she is going to open a restaurant in Milford, and contact her co employees to work for her, then the owner finds out about the dooshnozzle’s plans, fires her, and she barks back the only way she can,by trying to ruin the reputation of her former employer. what is the name of your new place Chau?

It’s nice to see that you took the time to find out the truth. But your findings do not justify what other customers have experienced here. Some of us “local morons” who you believe were gullible enough to side with Chau Vu’s story, well because most of us had bad experiences here previously. Her story just confirmed it for us. Ok cool, they passed the board of health inspections. But that doesn’t explain why they are recycling their mints and bean sprouts which in my opinion is disgusting. Just imagine how many unwashed hands have touched our food, and we didn’t even know about it. That’s how we come in contact with food borne illnesses. To most people who have gotten very sick from their food, this explained it to them. Like, you know how many people takes a shit and don’t even wash their hands? You’d be amazed. When she mentioned that the owner picked left over mints out of the trash, it totally threw me off because I had a friend who worked there who also witnessed this prior to this post being written in the first place. Also, her post had over 300 shares, majority being people who have dined here more than once and found something was wrong with their food. Some people even got sick! You can say she was a disgruntled worker, but we all don’t know what’s her real reason or what really happened between her and that restaurant which isn’t even a factor. The fact is , you cannot justify the condition of our food when it was served to us and our experiences we had dining here. Good luck trying to persuade what you call us “local morons”

    • The.Kurgen
      May 20, 2015 at 7:07 am

Maybe you should stop going out to eat, I’d be willing to bet that the majority of the restaurants you frequent have staff who don’t wash their hands before preparing your meal.
Lets face it, not everyone does what is right, some people just don’t care. We all take the risk of getting sick because we expect everyone will do the right thing, it’s just the world we live in. I see people everyday at work using the rest room and then not washing their hands, DISGUSTING….yes.
Fortunately I don’t work at a restaurant, I just make sure not to go near that person and warn others. But if you think that every person who touches your food has actually washed their hands then your living in denial. I don’t blame the establishment, they can’t police each employee every second of the day, I blame the employee for not having the decency to clean themselves, how difficult is it to wash your hands, takes 30 seconds extra. Enjoy your next dinner out.

    • xayxel
      May 20, 2015 at 8:35 am

Hey Ehh… don’t go to any restaurant then if you’re that naive about thinking unwashed hands is 100% eliminated in every place. That’s kind of moronic.

As for the ‘300’, how about taking a true survey concerning the physical pre existent health of these people who claimed they found something wrong with their food? Was that an eyelash in the soup or literally staff just screwed up the order every now and then, and these customers can’t handle human error as if their privileged selves were so perfect? Did people truly become sick because of the dish; aka food poisoning, uncooked food etc, or was it some other factor these complainers were not considering about in terms of their own well being? How many of the 300 people are grossly negligent of their own physical health, rarely exercise, are oblivious to their diet most of the time and as a result have weakened immune system? Stats please if you got what it takes to back up your accusations with at least (somewhat) emperical evidence than just loud accusations.

But why not just consider that people are embarrassed when they’re proven wrong after riding the bandwagon of a frenzied mob based on mostly emotion and little rationalistic thinking ? Sounds like many of the ‘protesters’. Yea, although TB should do more homework in his articles to prove his points, being that indignant still labels a person as pretty moronic..

    • Chau
      May 20, 2015 at 11:34 am

Board of health can never find out if you re-use food.. Only ppl who work there know.. I don’t want to say anything else after that post, but seem like ppl In TB is going too hard and too far… I am sure you are the owner friend, trying to offense me, and protect them, but I confirm that everything I said is from what I have done and been through.. I don’t say the food there all gross, I don’t say you should stop going there, its my opinion, my thought. Something is wrong with it? Saying something happen in my life is wrong??

Well you might have done it, but it doesn’t mean the owners told you to, maybe thats how you were raised, maybe you did it on your own trying to destroy the reputation of the business since they were going to fire you for insubordination as explained in the above post. Well, as that probably took some time for this “attorney” to draft, there was probably a charge for an hour or two of time. This information could be part of any libel suit down the line, and she’d have to identify said attorney.

I hope, if he or she exists, that she took some money for it, because otherwise they just got involved for nothing at all.

Well, that IS important. The hoods over the cooking equipment work a lot like chimneys, only instead of soot, they get full of grease. If that grease isn’t cleaned out regularly by a licensed technician, it could cause a fire.

Typically, they need to be done twice a year. So they may just be overdue since it was listed as a non-critical item on the report.
