Breaking news from the Turtlegram: Four kids desperately want attention:

Boy, Coach Mulcahy sure looks thrilled. If the media is gonna insist on covering every nudnik who does this at least be honest with the headlines. That’s all this is. Four kids who want to be on camera. They have no idea what they’re talking about. They’re doing it because everyone else is doing it. And most importantly they are accomplishing absolutely nothing.

Here’s an idea – how bout the media starts highlighting the black kids who ARE standing. Ya know, the ones who despite all of this oppression they have due to their skin color, still have the respect and dignity to to not make it all about them. Or how bout they cover the actual game, instead of the theatrics and sideshow that went along with it. This was an entire article that centered around one kid. Doesn’t mention who the quarterback was for either team. Doesn’t even mention any other player who wasn’t kneeling. And apparently it was a really good game and Holy Name almost came back and won. But none of that matters because four kids who are desperate for attention decided to steal the spotlight for themselves.

New superintendent Maureen Binienda handled this sideshow perfectly too. She made this announcement at the game:

“I’d like to welcome everyone,” Binienda said, “to the game tonight. I want everyone to know that for the national anthem tonight I would like everyone to stand, but if you choose not to, you must do so peacefully. We invite everyone to stay for the game to enjoy the excitement of high school competition.”

Perfect. She knows you have the right to be an ignoramus, but she would prefer if you just stopped being a moron for 90 seconds. That would be great. At least she’s on record for saying that she wants everyone to stand. She didn’t have to say that but she did. Good for her.

Later on she eviscerated these four kids by pointing out that they’re not really doing jackshit for “unequality and injust” at the end of the day:

“I think it’s good that students see something,” Binienda said Friday, “and they want to make a stand about it, but I think the stand should be more than just putting a knee down. I think they should do things in our community, they should become part of the solution and get involved in service and every day work with people so everybody learns to appreciate each other and everybody starts making a difference.”

Boom. Roasted.

Couldn’t have said it any better myself. The inner city community can use all the help it can get. Maureen Binienda has dedicated her life to helping the most at risk students in the community. While the principal at South High School, her program “Andy’s Attic,” worked in collaboration with Shrewsbury High School to donate entire outfits to students in need. Its an amazing program. She partnered with the Family Health Center of Worcester and opened a food pantry at the high school for students and their families. While she was principal she also created a full service health center under her direction. These are things that directly impact communities of color in a positive way. She’s making a difference. You’re not. You might want to listen to her.

Here’s what these Doherty Kids could do instead. Check out the “Worcester’s Dirty Secret” Facebook page. The people running this page operate primarily in the Doherty High School quadrant. They expose the filth and trash that is rampant in their neighborhoods and highlight the fact that Ed Augusutus, Sarai Rivera, and Joe Petty do NOTHING to fix it because they’re too busy “working together” and “moving the city forward” at ribbon cutting ceremonies.

But this page does more than just complain. They actually take action to make Worcester a better place. And they are led by a group of teenage volunteers who AREN’T making the front page of the Turtlegram:

14067768_852536858181292_5501801669023154335_o
Or since you guys are into athletics, sign up to help them at the Castle Park running series:

There’s a lot you can do to make a difference. But kneeling down during a song does absolutely nothing. You’re not brave. You’re not heroes. You’re not making a difference, no matter what lifelong losers like Julius Jones are telling you. People like him have committed their lives to doing what you’re doing now, and ultimately they have accomplished nothing. They make Worcester a worse place to live in.

And shame on the Turtlegram for their atrocious coverage of last night’s game:

Seriously? As if kneeling helped him score that touchdown. This is why you can’t trust the news you’re getting from the mainstream media. Here’s the first two paragraphs of their coverage of the GAME:

For the second week in a row, Doherty High junior defensive back Michael Oppong made a statement by kneeling during the national anthem prior to his school’s football game, but Friday night he also made a statement during the game. Oppong returned an interception 72 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter to give Doherty a 34-8 lead, and it turned out to be the deciding score in a 34-28 victory over Holy Name High at Commerce Bank Field at Foley Stadium.

No mention of how Holy Name scored 20 consecutive points to nearly win the game. No mention of anyone else on either team. Because no one else mattered except for the kid who took a knee during the National Anthem.

I stopped reading where TB starts slamming media for covering such garbage, as he’s covering it. Pathetic.
However, these children are our future, they do understand why they are kneeling and I’m excited to see what our future holds. America has had enough of you old, redneck, racist pigs……..as Turtleboy says……join the revolution!!

What these these kids who take a knee aren’t realizing is that when they put on their uniforms, they represent their schools not themselves. If I were the coach I would have suspended that kid the first time he took a knee during the national anthem. He does not deserve the privilege of representing his school.

I am a person of color, so I cant stand for the National Anthem. I should practice running on the football field, so when I get chased by the cops, I can run like hell to get away from them. I have a zero chance of doing anything successful because I blame the world for my lack of desire to make anything out of myself other than a burden on society. Screw the flag screw the United States.

We need some white rights Turtle Riders protesting at this next game.

To begin, I still get home delivery of the T & G. This morning’s paper had the following.
Front page, picture of Oppong along with the three other DHS players kneeling. On either side in the picture four white players standing. Beneath the photo the three players with Oppong are identified. Joseph Nyuane, Devaughn Mitchell, Devon Taylor. The four white players not identified.
Page two of the sports page had a good account of the game action. Headline; Highlanders hold on. Secondary headline; Naps fall short on final play of game. Good account of Holy Name’s last drive of the game. In fact the article was more about Holy Name’s performance overall.
Not saying the T & G doesn’t have many, many faults, only that turtleboy was in the extreme and less than honest on how the paper covered the game.

They had the protesters on the front page and the actual game / TEAM coverage on page two of the sports section?

Are you sure that T&G wasn’t playing up the “protestors?”

While they are down on their knees, perhaps they could make themselves useful by giving out blow jobs. The 4 players probably understand blow jobs perfectly vs. a stupid action they don’t fully understand. Seriously – how can someone who doesn’t even fully grasp language arts possibly understand the big picture of this movement?

Oh…. and T&G just plain sucks. Obsolete like the dinosaurs.

Just stop playing the national anthem at sports events. There is no need to play it. Problem solved!

Um, how about the students get benched for not showing good sportsmanship/citizenship. They want to PROTEST, they want CHANGE? DO SOMETHING.

Can you believe the lack of professionalism from the T&G? How dare they sensationalize someone for the benefit of a few extra clicks on their site! Who would do that????

No mention of the holding hands of the black kid kneeling and white kid standing.

Maybe the kneeler has bad knees and the other player was helping him up/down.
That would explain why what these eggheads are doing is SUCH a big sacrifice.

SO sick of hearing about this kid. I said it before. He wanted his 15 minutes of fame and got it. Unfortunately EVERYONE keeps giving it to him. He’s just another example of entitled kids of today. He won’t do anything to make it better like the young men and women that helped clean up the city’s streets.. instead the entire world will just change because of his kneeling.
Men, women and K9s are sacrificing their lives over seas for those hat want to disrespect the flag. SHAME ON YOU

They’re jumping on the Julius bandwagon, that every Tom, Dick and Harry owes them something. He wouldn’t last in a debate with anyone. His ‘facts’ are made up. What’s put on here are concrete FACTS. He’s poisoning young minds and parents are allowing it.

No more attention to Mike O. If he finally chooses to do something more productive than bending a knee then we can highlight it, until then ignore what he is doing.

It really was a shame. No focus on football at all. The holy name team played a great game, fighting to come back against a huge deficit to almost tie or win. And, in spite of all the hatred skewed towards them and their school this week with all the Mensah carp. And let’s take a minute to talk about the kids who “wanted to be seen” at the game. The line to get in Foley field wrapped around the corner, they police had to stop people from coming in at halftime. These kids weren’t there for the game either. Most were milling around and looking to be interviewed or to be in in any action that might have taken place ( which there was none thankfully) . It was a very sad day for inner city Worcester, despite all the good that people have done! I guess “once a punk always a punk.” We really needed better yesterday!

This is seriously so enraging. I know it probably shouldn’t be, but the CHILDREN have literally NO IDEA what in the hell they’re protesting. Julius is straight cancer. BLM IS CANCER. There, I said it.

I remember we had a ww2 veteran substitute at sullivan middle. Mr Mencow had a whole room dedicated to both theaters of combat. I guess if your family members fought in a war with a draft you have a greater appreciation of the freedom they secured for all of us.
I worked with a older guy who happened to be black and he served our country back in the 50s. I looked at him like I did my own grandfather and always listened to him. google Pete Depina buffalo soldier.

Check out the YouTube video with the Virginia Tech Head Basketball coach showing how he brought in US veterans to chat with his players so they would know what our National Anthem and flag is all about. Priceless! Maybe DMHS/WPS can do EXACTLY the same.
