On the Turtleboy Tuesday show today Uncle Turtleboy and Cruisin Bruce were talking a lot about the terrorist attack in Orlando. Inevitably the topic of guns game up, particularly concealed carry. Last week a federal court in California ruled that Americans don’t have a right to carry concealed weapon with them. Turtleboy doesn’t agree with that, and more importantly it’s impossible to enforce. If you’re carrying a concealed weapon then no one will know unless that person uses the gun in self defense. They gonna get in trouble for that? Because that would be insane.

But the Orlando shooting, and this recent court decision has brought out a lot of Annie Oakes of the world who wanna let us know how bad ass they are:

Bull. Shit. I love how the people who say stuff like this have never been in this situation before. I’ve had a gun pulled on me once in my life. I was coming out of the ATM in the Honey Farms parking lot on Park Ave (across the street from Kay’s Barbershop). Literally shit my pants. Would not have mattered if I was armed with a gun because I froze. My life flashed before my eyes and all I could think about was living. And the best way to make sure I stayed alive was to do whatever it took for him not to pull that trigger. He wanted money, so I gave him what I had without thinking twice about it.

In hindsight it would’ve been cool to take out my concealed glock and bust a cap in his ass, but the reality is that this is not how human physiology works. The video we’re about to show you is propaganda. It’s biased and is clearly geared towards making you see the weaknesses of concealed carry. But it’s interesting nonetheless:

Alright, so the problem is that the subject with the concealed weapon was specifically targeted by the shooters. In real life, in a room with 30 other people, there would be a much smaller chance that this particular person would be targetted. But the science is interesting and proves my point about when I had a gun pulled on me. When you’re in a high pressure situation like that your heart pounds four times as fast as normal. As a result your hands get less blood flow so your ability to react is severely delayed. I can tell you from experience this is EXACTLY what happens if you are not regularly training for situations like this. Your body goes numb.

That’s why police and military train for situations like this. If you have a gun, I feel like it’s your duty to be constantly taking target practice AND practice shooting in simulated, high pressure situations. Otherwise you’re a liability during a shooting, not an asset. What if your body is so tense that you start shooting, miss a bunch of times, and start hitting civilians? Not good.

The Orlando nightclub situation is also very different from the scene depicted in the video. There were people hiding in there who would have had plenty of time to unholster their weapon and ready themselves as the gunman approached. So yea, someone with a concealed weapon in that night club definitely COULD have stopped this guy, but it’s not some sort of guarantee that Annie Oakes makes it out to be.

So yea, I have no problem with concealed carry, especially considering the world we’re living in. But all these Rambos out there need to calm down and stop letting us know how they’re gonna save us all in the grocery store. The fact of the matter is that when you reach for your concealed weapon you instantly make yourself a targetin a situation like that, so you better be able to draw fast and shoot quickly while your body is inhibited. Personally, I’m running. But that’s just me. I’m not a hero like Cristen Giles. I’m just a guy who wants to make it home to see Turtleboy Jr.

I would still rather have Cristen Giles behind me in a grocery store than someone unarmed. At least you have a shot. Sure, anyone would panic, but hopefully pull themselves together enough to TRY to defend themselves. The difference between someone stalking an ATM and someon opening fire in a grocery store or crowded venue is that there is no commotion…no time to pull your weapon. Cristen would surely hand over her cash too. Do you think she would attempt to draw a weapon with a gun pointed directly at her in order to hold onto 40 bucks? Probably not, but she would at least make the attempt if in a crowd. That’s what she said…she might die trying, but she would go out firing.

I think you trashed Cristen Giles’ post in part because she is female, and feel that a female couldn’t possibly defend herself as well as a male. At least the female in the totally fabricated unrealistic video scenerio, the female had the ONLY shot, while both guys completely missed their chance.

ABC news. I’m not sure you could have found a station further to the left. Love how they said a cellphone would be more valuable than a gun. Sorry I’d rather have both, and I usually do on a regular basis.

TB you froze because you weren’t used to being around guns. If you had one and were comfortable with them you probably wouldn’t have. That girls post is right.

EVEN ARMED YOU MUST USE YOUR HEAD IF A SITUATION OCCURS YOU MUST PICK A OPPORTUNITY DEFEND AND DEFEAT YOUR ENEMY.JUDGEMENT SOMETIME WINS. IN THE CLUB DISARMED YOU ARE W/O OPTIONS .RUSHING TH GUNMAN MAY GET YOU KILLED BUT IT BEATS WAITING TO BE SLAUGHTERED.

Located out of Sutton is a company called SG Tactical. It is owned and operated by Sergeant Dan George from the Worcester Police Training Division. Sgt. George has been the department’s armorer and firearms instructor for the past 18 years out of his 30 year career. He has been trained by the Military, FBI, other federal agencies and the MA State Police.

This guy knows his shit. Check out his web site. His course is just $60.00 and well worth it. If you carry and do not have any formal training you are a liability like one commenter said. Retail gun shops will show you how to load, unload, disassemble for cleaning then reassemble, sell you a gun cleaning kit, some rounds then you are off.

    Not nearly good enough.

More and more we read about thugs attempting to rob the small corner stores. In many of these cases we see the owner\employee standing up to the punks by using whatever means necessary. What was it about 6/8 years ago out Pleasant St. Some badass wanted to pull a stick up at a packie and got drilled by the guy behind the counter. End of story, one dead punk.

Would guess most of the trash-talkers would be young-bloods as a rule. Some older, but not many. If someone is a mature 50 year old adult, hopefully they wouldn’t be talking trash. Again, if they’re licensed, trained, etc., no issue with me. Not a gun owner myself.

Why are we still talking about this? The 2nd Amend. is going nowhere! Let’s talk about putting the National Guard on the streets.

I’m really amazed that an innocent civilian hasn’t been shot by one of these Rambo types yet. Sounds like a great way to do a dime minimum in the state pen trying to “save the day”.

The first rule of concealed carry is that you don’t talk about concealed carry. The second rule of concealed carry is that you don’t talk about concealed carry. I carry daily, and I assure you, you won’t see any posts like that on my social networking page, you won’t see any NRA or Gadsen stickers on my car, and you won’t see any “We don’t call 911” signs at my house. You carry concealed so that you have the chance of fighting back if someone tries to kill you. Not as a deterrent, not because it’s cool, and not so that you can look like Rambo. You are absolutely right that when someone draws on you, you freeze. If someone pulls a gun on you with the intent to kill, you are most likely going to die. You carry concealed to hopefully give yourself a chance to live. And you are absolutely right that when you carry concealed, it is your duty to practice at the range, to practice drawing from concealment and to understand the consequences of ever having to use your weapon. Shooting someone in self defense is no joke. We don’t live in Texas or Florida. If you shoot someone in self defense in the People’s Republic of Massachusetts, even if they are trying to shoot and kill you, you are most likely going to spend some time locked up.

I do live in Texas, and everything you said is spot-on. Even here, if you have to shoot someone in self defense you make two phone calls immediately afterwards: first you call 911, then you call your lawyer. Just because we have no ”duty to retreat” when in public doesn’t mean you aren’t going to at least get taken to the police station for questioning after shooting someone.

Down here we also have the open carry crowd. It’s dumb as hell in most circumstances but at least if I’m out where someone is OCing and something happens, they’ll be drawing the attention of any bad guys and giving me a chance to react.

Most people who carry have had some kind of training.
You recently published an article about a wanna be gang banger in Fitchburg who got shot by an armed citizen during a Craigslist transaction. That person didn’t hesitate when he saw the gun, which turned out to be a bb replica. If he wasn’t armed maybe he would have frozen but he was armed and a heart warming story came out of it.

You are correct in that if you carry, you better train, and train hard. You need to be able to react properly, otherwise you put the lives of everyone around you in jeopardy. If you don’t train, don’t bother carrying.
