On my way into work today a reader posted on my NEW FACEBOOK PAGE that they were looking forward to hearing our thoughts on the punishment that would be laid out upon the LA Clippers‘ owner Donald Sterling. Hadn’t really thought about it much at the time. Too busy worrying about Boston Marathon banditgate 2014.
But the more I thought about it the more I figured he’d get some kind of symbolic slap on the wrist. After all, it took the NBA a while to act on this. But the way I saw it, what could they do? Fine him for sure – the NBA is good at that. But punitive actions could they do to an owner? The team is his legal property right? I mean, it sucks, but that’s capitalism right? I figured the Clippers would just go back to being the Clippers once they were blacklisted (no pun intended) by every NBA player with a soul. But they couldn’t MAKE him sell the team. Shitty situation all around.
Then the announcement came. Lifetime ban, $2.5 million fine, league urges him to sell.
Holy shit. Lifetime ban? They can do that? The money literally means nothing. He can make that much in interest while he’s taking a giant smash. But the other two aspects are pretty insane. First of all, how do you ban someone who owns the team? I don’t get it. It says he can’t show up to Clippers’ games. How is that even possible? So he can’t buy a ticket and walk in the arena like everyone else? How is that even enforceable? What if he’s wearing a fake mustache and glasses?
But how can they MAKE him sell the team? How is that even American? This is where this story is gonna get fun. Donald Sterling is a lawyer and a professional asshole. Does anyone honestly think he’s just gonna go quietly into the night? LOL. Hell no. He’s going kicking and screaming. If he has to go home then he’s taking his God damn ball home with him.
Turns out they can make him do whatever they want as long as the other owners are on board. The Clippers belong to Sterling, but the NBA belongs to the owners collectively. Therefore if an owner like Sterling damages the league brand they can vote to get rid of him.
When you wanna find out ANYTHING about NBA basketball, you turn to Adrian Wojarnwoski. He is by far the greatest writer in the bizz today. He has made a career out of trolling LeBron hard, and that’s how he won we over. So to sort through all the bullshit today I just followed his updates on Twitter:
High-level league officials in contact w/ commissioner's office using same word to describe sanctions to come on Donald Sterling: "Severe."
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) April 29, 2014
On ownership super majority needed to vote Sterling out, one Board of Governor tells Yahoo: "Adam has the votes – all of them, I believe."
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) April 29, 2014
Several groups with desire to purchase Clippers are already stepping forward, with a bidding war expected to exceed $1 billion for Clippers.
— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) April 29, 2014
So if Wojo said it, that makes it 100% fact. Adam Silver’s got the votes. Because let’s be honest, this is America and everyone is watching your every move. Picture what would happen to an NBA owner that doesn’t vote to force him to sell his team. They’ll be the new George Zimmerman. It’s a guarantee that this is 100% unanimous.
What I don’t understand is how there’s a bidding sale for this team. I mean, he HAS to sell right? Why aren’t these people starting with $1? If he somehow profits off of this sale doesn’t that make him the winner? I don’t get economics. Never have, never will.
So here’s what is going to happen – the LA Clippers won’t exist in two years. Simple as that. Sterling could’ve made SO much more money by moving this team to Orange County or San Diego. But he was a dooshnozzle who wanted to be an LA celebrity and keep his court side seats at the Staples Center. Now that he’s gone the next owner is gonna wanna profit more off this team. The franchise will move to either San Diego or Seattle, and the Clippers will be a team we will look back and laugh at for generations.
I’ve heard a lot of people say “What about free speech?” LOL. Do you realize why we own this blog now? The person who used to own and write for the blog before we purchased it and renamed it, found out the hard way that “free speech” never really existed in America. Well, it does I guess. You can’t go to jail for it. But if you like to feed your family and pay your mortgage you need a job, and employers are under no obligation to keep you around if they don’t like your free speech. Sterling works for the NBA. They are under no obligation to sit around and watch their brand get dragged down by this nudnik.
Oh, and don’t even get me started with all of the dingleberries out there who are trying the reverse racism card. Bitch, please. Brooklyn Nets’ owner Jay-Z never said that Beyonce can’t bring white people to the Barclay’s Center.
But I will say this – the NBA has made it abundantly clear that racism is not allowed in this league. No gray area at all. That means no more “N” word. No more bullshit exemptions and rules about who is allowed to say the word, and whether or not it’s OK if you have a silent “r” at the end of that word. The next time any player says that word in a public area, whether he’s in uniform or out at the bar, that player needs to be suspended IMMEDIATELY. If they don’t, then yes, the league is a fraudulent, politically correct mouthpiece that doesn’t give a flying fuck about eradicating the league of racial undertones.
With that said, the punishment doesn’t fit the crime. If he had said all that racist shit about not wanting his trophy girlfriend to take black dudes to the Staples Center during an interview or something like that it would be one thing. But what I don’t understand is why it’s not a bigger deal that this ENTIRE FUCKING THING was manipulated by his dime-piece.
If you’ve heard the tape right now there are a few things that are abundantly clear:
- He is drunk as shit
- She didn’t tell him it was being recorded
- She tried to make herself seem like Mother fucking Theresa
Yea sorry, but that’s entrapment. Shouldn’t even be admissible in court. It was a private conversation between him and his “girlfriend.” Have I ever said anything like that in a setting that I assumed was private? Well, no. Quite frankly everything he said was just strange. What I don’t understand about people who genuinely dislike other races is how they have the energy to hate people that much simply because of skin color. Don’t get me wrong I still hate a lot of people. I just can’t seem to justify a way in which someone can use race as a reason to hate someone though. I just don’t get it.
But I have said things that are a MILLION TIMES WORSE than what Sterling said in conversations that I assumed were private. I have said some of the nastiest, most offensive, vile things a human being can unleash from their mouth. I have degraded countless different people in ways that would make Donald Sterling look like an altar boy. We’ve ALL said something worse than Sterling. If you’re saying no right now then you sit on a throne of lies. But when you know that what you’re saying will remain in the place you’re saying it, you are simply more likely to say things that you would never say in a public setting.
That should matter here, but it doesn’t. He said it, everyone heard it, and the damage is done. But it was all her though. She got him liquored up. She knew he would take the bait and say a bunch of dumbass racist shit. She knew exactly the type of person she was dealing with.
But she drilled him anyway. Over, and over again. Because she was getting paid.
So why is the girlfriend being given a free pass in all of this? She sucks and the media is oddly silent about her role in this. If Wojo is Woodward in Bernstein, then she’s deep throat, which in this case is entirely……..appropriate. Here’s what you need to know about “V. Stiviano”:
— Stiviano does not admit to being Donald Sterling’s mistress. “Neither Ms. Stiviano, nor this office has ever alleged that Ms. Stiviano is, or ever was, Mr. Sterling’s girlfriend,” Stiviano’s attorney Mac Nehoray said in a statement Sunday night.
Right. Sure, she’s not. She’s just some random person who can get a guy worth billions to whimper and whine like a 15 year old virgin on the phone. I’m sure someone of her high moral character would never lie about being treated like a sexual object for a hideous and decrepit billionaire.
— Stiviano, who is nearly 50 years younger than Donald Sterling, was sued in March by Sterling’s wife, Rochelle Sterling, who wants the return of a $1.8 million duplex Donald Sterling bought for Viviano. Rochelle Sterling says in the lawsuit she believed her husband’s name would be on the deed when it was purchased in December 2013, but it wasn’t.
— Rochelle Sterling also seeks a Ferrari, two Bentleys and a Range Rover she said her husband purchased for Stiviano. Donald Sterling also gave Stiviano $240,000 for living expenses, according to Rochelle Sterling’s lawsuit. In all, roughly $2 million of community property was allegedly spent on Stiviano without Rochelle Sterling’s knowledge, she said in the lawsuit.
OK I’m gonna say something now that not everyone will agree with, but MAFW – this is no different at all from prostitution. If you married someone 50 years older than you, simply because you are benefitting from the relationship financially, what exactly would that make you? Seriously, what’s the difference? She’s not physically attracted to him. Obviously. She’s a minority, and he’s a known bigot. Obviously. Yet she still allows him to take four Viagra’s and do the unthinkable. And in return she got a $1.8 million duplex, a ferrari, two bentley’s and a Range Rover. Oh yea, and $240,000.
So someone PLEASE tell me how this is not prostitution. I know she’s not what you think of when you think of a hooker. But the only difference between what SHE’s doing and what the lovely women from the Worcester Telegram’s courthouse records are doing are the type of clients they’re attracting. The ladies of the night in Worcester are bagging some divorce from Leicester who has to work in the morning, while she’s bagging a billionaire. She is the best of the best. Probably the #1 hooker in America. So at least she’s got that going for her.
— In response to the lawsuit, Stiviano said Rochelle Sterling had to know her husband had romantic relationships outside the marriage, although Stiviano does not admit to being Sterling’s mistress. She mocks Rochelle Sterling’s assertion that the “feminine wiles of Ms. Stiviano overpowered the iron will of Donald T. Sterling, who is well known as one of the most shrewd businessmen in the world.
So let me get this straight….V. Stiviano thinks it’s out of the question that she could manipulate Sterling for all his money because he’s a shrewd businessman? Ummmm newsflash V. Stiviano – we all know the power that a hot woman can have on a man. It doesn’t matter how shrewd he is. When he takes his daily dose of cialis, nothing else matters. Every logical thing a man thinks about is immediately thrown out the window. You can’t try to rationalize it or explain it. When men use that organ to control their thinking, bad things happen. It’s science. Don’t underestimate yourself V.
— In 2010, Stiviano legally changed her name to V. Stiviano from Maria Vanessa Perez. In a court petition, she had not “yet been fully accepted because of my race,” according to the Los Angeles Times.
This lady…..freaking weirdo man. During his drunken phone conversation with her he kept referring to the fact that people think she’s white. Quite frankly, I think she hates minorities more than she does. She changed her Latino name because she found it easier to live life as a white woman than be proud of who she is. Those are the actions of a rational human being if I’ve ever seen it.
— Stiviano’s lawyer says she denies leaking the recorded conversation.
Only one thing I can say to that:
Either way, I’m really looking forward to seeing how this whole thing plays out. Grab your popcorn!! Feel free to share your thoughts to keep the conversation going.
