We Shamed Direnzo Towing Into Giving Vehicle Back To Family Of Deceased Competitor, But They’re Still Lying And Donating $40,000 To Politicians Who Protect Them

We’ve got a followup on last night’s story about Direnzo Towing charging over $14,000 in storage fees to a competitor after the owner was killed by a drunk driver.

And it’s a happy ending this time.

This is what we do people. We see a problem, we shame those worthy of being shamed, and then we watch as the problem gets fixed as a direct result of the public shaming. Of course the Turtlegram and Gazette made no reference to this and said it was all due to “social media,” but everyone in the Turtlegram’s comments knows exactly why this happened.

Oh, and the Turtlegram also got part of the story wrong, particularly the part about the “misunderstanding” from owner John Direnzo Jr, who attempted to have us not write the blog last night.

In reality the diabetes dumpster coon decided to give them back the vehicle for no charge because it was bad PR to extort money from the family of a dead man because he couldn’t get over whatever stupid feud they had.

But how many times has this happened to people whose stories didn’t go viral? Why is this scummy company getting preference from Captain Robert Johnson of the State Police? Oh right.

BFFL’s have each other’s back.

Of course it doesn’t hurt when your tow trucks are filled with supporters for the Mayor, State Reps, and Congressman Jim McGovern at the Worcester St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

I wonder what Mayor Joe Petty, State Reps Dan Donahue and Jim O’Day, as well as Congressman McGovern think about their association with a company that conducts business like this. Not good.

They’re not the only ones that Direnzo has in their back pockets though. They’ve donated almost $40,000 to various political campaigns.

Check out the OCPF website to see all the people they’ve given cash to.

City Councillors, Lt Governor Karyn Polito, DA Joe Early, State Senator Michael Moore, Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, Former Lt Governor Tim Murray, State Treasurer Deb Goldberg, Former Senate President Stan Rosenberg, Holyoke Mayor Alex Morse, various state reps, and many more.

Do you think their competitors have this kind of cash lying around to donate to everyone in power from Springfield to 495?

Some people were saying we should start a boycott of Direnzo’s. My response to that is, no. Just no.

  1. Boycotts are tools of the left to suppress free speech and destroy private enterprise by using mobs to attack people they don’t like. Sure, what Direnzo did was scummy, but too often these “boycotts” turn into harassment campaigns, and there’s just no need for that.
  2. The best way to boycott Direnzo towing is to park your car legally. I boycott them every day. It’s really easy.

The best way to fight back against companies like this isn’t to boycott them, it’s to publicly shame them. Public shaming works, so remind people of this story the next time they cry about hurt feelz on the Internet.

$150 per DAY for storage? Lesson learned. If I’m ever in a wreck, I’ll have it towed…anyplace else.

This story had 900+ shares on Facebook, massive Facebook outrage, and had forced direnzo’s to shut down their Facebook page before you even got the blog published, I think this one would’ve solved itself with or without TB

Turtle boy probably helped put the pressure on but Direnzo already said he was going to release the car on Tuesday. TB even put it in original story. TB pats themselves on the back sometimes when they should just shut up and move to the next story.

The Robidoux family thanks Patsy Santa Maria! Another pillar of the community. If the blog and shaming is reason the vehicle returned for free, which I believe is true, then why was there no thank you to Turtle Boy publicly? Maybe they did it privately ?which is ok but mentioning Patsy and no TB is kinda disheartening no?

Towing contracts are institutionalized patronage. Not a revelation to anybody. They attract a certain mindset. Nobody in that business is on the level. I’m not a lib by any means, but maybe we should look at eliminating contracts. Go with a certification and a uber type queue. I know, I know, that’s just shifting the corruption from one place to another . It would have two benefits: It would improve service, hopefully, and allow a public review of rates. I know service and government are exclusive, but it would be better than the black box because fuck you that’s why situation we have now. At least you have some path to recourse with the state. The other positive outcome is purely petty spite. Towing companies that prey on the most economically vulnerable of the working class in our society are cancer.

Don’t think he’s paying to play? Look at the donations… they are to the heavy hitters, regardless of party affiliation. This doesn’t look to me like money being spent to support a candidate because Direnzo believes in his/her platform. This looks like a bunch of donations in case Direnzo ever needs a favor.

TB should also look into Michael Robidoux’s past feud with the town of Auburn. He couldn’t get the towing contract from Fuller, even though he was the low bidder. Politics.

The T&G comes out looking far worse to anyone that’s been following this from the beginning than Direnzo Towing. Bad people do bad things all the time but Turtleboy got this family some justice yet the T&G doesn’t even mention TBS let alone cite them and the story looks like it may have even been written by Direnzo. That paper is a disgrace.

Why are there so many business names for the same company? Easier to donate without it seemingly coming from the same place? Wonder how many tax ids they do business under…

Usually it’s done to limit liability. For example, each tow truck may be owned by a separate LLC or corporation. If a truck runs over someone, or does something else harmful, damages usually are limited to the LLC’s or corporation’s assets (often no assets beyond the vehicle).

  • Never trust a state employee

I wonder what other tow truck companies donate? Or any other companies with state contracts. Obviously there crooks by professional but why are goverment funded companies so prone to mafioso tactics. Money money money

You donate in order to buy influence. It is a legal bribe. Kind of like making a donation to a college. Calls made on behalf of donors are taken, unlike calls from the general public. That’s how the system works. Major corporations donate to both candidates in an election. That way, no matter who wins, they will still be heard.
