TelegramThe Charlton man shot and killed by local police early Friday morning had a history of violent and abusive behavior, according to court records.

Police shot and killed Neil Seifert, 40, of Putnam Road, Charlton, outside of 40 North Main St., according to Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.

Mr. Seifert, armed with a shotgun, allegedly fired two shots at local police officers before an officer returned fire, striking him.

The officers were not struck, although Mr. Early said one shot came very close to an officer. An officer, though, was struck by debris that was created when a shot hit the house, he said.

The confrontation, just after midnight, grew out of an alleged domestic assault, police said. It came about two hours after police responded to a call from the address, according to Mr. Early. A woman living in one of two apartments in the house said she was assaulted by Mr. Seifert, he said. She told authorities he also took her car.

After the assault was reported, Mr. Seifert fled, Mr. Early said during a Friday morning news conference. His account continued:

Police began looking for a Nissan Sentra about 9:50 p.m. and soon learned he went to his house in Charlton and collected a shotgun owned by his stepfather.

The stepfather attempted to stop him from taking the gun, which was locked up. They struggled, but Mr. Seifert broke into the area where it was stored and took it.

Police alerted other communities to be on the lookout for the vehicle. The alert indicated Mr. Seifert was considered armed and dangerous, according to scanner reports. They indicated that after leaving the Putnam Road address, Mr. Seifert visited the home of a former girlfriend in Charlton before heading back to Webster.

A short time later, Mr. Early said, state police spotted the car headed south on Interstate 395. Troopers signaled for the driver to stop, but he sped away, getting off at Exit 3 and heading into Webster.

Police followed the car to 40 North Main St. The suspect ran to the back of the house. Two Webster police officers and two state troopers pursued him. The two troopers went around the sides of the house and the Webster officers went to the back where Mr. Seifert was attempting to get in a back door.

Mr. Seifert threatened the officers and was told repeatedly to drop the shotgun, saying, “Drop your gun. Drop your gun. Drop your gun was repeated several times,” Mr. Early said.

When Mr. Seifert saw the officers, he fired at them twice, Mr. Early said. The first gunshot hit the house and a planter on a back porch near a gas grill. The second just missed the other Webster officer’s head and peppered two vehicles parked nearby with gunshot.

One of the officers then returned fire, striking Mr. Seifert, according to Mr. Early.

Remember when about a week and a half ago every cop hating loser in America was whining about this video of a Webster cop parking in what they believed to be was a handicapped spot at McDonalds:

Where are all those idiots now? Because on top of the fact that it turned out that the cop was parked in a perfectly legal spot, and was picking up food for prisoners while this useless piece of human garbage harassed him and humiliated him for a national audience to see, they also nearly sacrificed one of their own to protect the community this morning. But hey keep trying to catch them in “gotcha” situations. Your loser friends from Webster can make a cool rap song about it. Maybe some day you’ll even make it into Get Down Productions.

I’m assuming we’re not gonna hear from the “black lives matter” folks either, because the deceased criminal was a honky. But of course it’s not stopping nudniks from staying stupid things on the Internet:

Yea, you can’t kill anyone with only TWO rounds right? It’s not like anyone has ever been killed form a single bullet before.

Screen Shot 2015-03-27 at 9.56.44 PM

Yea, they should’ve been nicer and shot him in the pinky. Because the guy wasn’t a totally deranged psychopath or anything. I’m sure he would’ve given up after being wounded.

Screen Shot 2015-03-27 at 9.58.57 PM

That’s because you have two first names and you’re obviously illiterate.

Screen Shot 2015-03-27 at 9.59.45 PM

Right. The cops should only kill psychopath criminals who AREN’T suicidal. That seems like sensible policy. “Excuse me sir, I know we’re in the middle of a heated gunfight, but I need to make sure you’re not suicidal before I defend myself.”

What annoys me is that we won’t hear a word about this from Coming Together Circlejerk, or the people who tape cops in “gotcha” situations, or any of these other “community” groups who seek to divide us. We also won’t hear them talk about the police officer who was critically wounded by a gunshot in Boston tonight. Because none of that fits their agenda. They want you to believe that cops are all tyrants on power trips. They’re not. They’re people that signed up to put themselves in harms way so that we can sleep well at night.

Hey hippies, here’s an idea. Don’t shoot at cops, or try to take their guns, or put them in situations where they fear for their life. Because they don’t have the foresight to figure out what people like Michael Brown’s intentions are. They’re put in a situation where they have to make a split second decision. Don’t wanna die? Do what the police tell you to do. Problem solved.

Who this man was, and what he may have been struggling with, should have no impact on how the police respond to being shot at.

Black Man, white woman, asian teenager, sprinkles the cat, or bob the turtle…..if you are firing a shotgun at an officer’s head, expect them to defend themselves.

Loss of life is tragic, and being proactive about the root issues is important; but police response to this kind of violence should remain constant, regardless of what condition they have or struggles they might “be going through”. (Or color of you skin) I don’t care if you’re quadriplegic, with downs syndrome, colon cancer & shingles, and just saw your whole family burned to a crisp in a car accident. You don’t get to kill other people.

I’m not debating whether the shooter deserved to die or not…..the point is that it is reasonable to expect law enforcement to use deadly force when their life (or an innocent bystander’s life) is being challenged.

Generally I tend to agree with much that is said on this site but knowing more about this circumstance than I really care too. The berating of the shooter is not imo justified. Addictions are very horrible diseases that change a person. Who knows what drove the shooter to where he end up in his life. How many of you have walked in his shoes? Some people just can’t deal with the struggle that life hands them. Not everyone grows up in warm loving and caring environments. If they did shrinks and aa would probably be out of business.
For turtleboy or anyone else on this blog to speak about a person they don’t even know is also sensationlizing a tragic loss of life for all involved, police family and abuse victims. No better or worse than the same people who criticized police for use of deadly force. We must do better as a society to prevent these types of circumstances from escalating to the loss of life.

As I was out running this morning, I was thinking at times about this blog and those who criticize the police for taking a man’s life and again, thought how people who criticize officers having to shoot to kill in certain situations need to realize that someone getting injured from a shot doesn’t “always” eliminate the threat from the subject to an officer/officers, and/or others who happen to be around the area. I could point out a lot of situations in which a a suspect was shot and still continued to be a threat.

Wait, if he only grabbed two rounds, wasn’t he outta ammo at that point?

Apparently there is some misnomer here….Suicidal people can be very violent….Just ask the 150 people in the French Alps….I am unsure why people feel like there is less risk to a police officer if someone is suicidal….

It doesn’t matter if it’s a .22 or a shotgun. 1 round is enough to kill. Don’t give me shit about distance etc. One good or lucky shot and it’s lights out.

And as far as the cops deciding who lives or dies, well I cant think of a bettet time. When this douchebag is attempting to enter a residence with a loaded weapon (after firing at officers) he’s putting random innocent lives in danger. That is a justified homicide.

Yes a .22 can be very deadly. In “The Godfather” Michael used a .22 to kill the Turk and chief. In real life Stanley Ketchell, the great middleweight champion, was shot in the back with a .22 puncturing a lung. He died a slow, agonizing death.

Remember in some of those B – westerns where the good guy would shoot the gun out of the bad guy’s hand? No one gets hurt that bad and everyone goes home happy. I swear that’s how most of these clowns would expect the police to react . Except they see the cop as the bad guy.

Yeah, because a .22 can’t do permanent damage or paralyze, right? Fool.

Some of these people complaining live in an unrealistic world when it comes to an officer’s use of force in certain situations; especially when that officer or multiple officers are being shot at, the actions of a suspect or suspects one or more officers may be dealing with, or in some cases a weapon is grabbed. Have there ever been situations where an officer or more than one could have reacted better to a situation? Yes! Still, I see too many arm chair law enforcement these days, especially from people who have never been in that officer’s situation and/or who weren’t there to see what one or more officers were facing, being overly critical and thinking a suspect being shot & killed could always be avoided.

      Keeping Things in Perspective:

There is absolutely no difference in my opinion between a cop or multiple cops being shot at in a civilian urban setting than a U.S. troop being shot at overseas fighting terrorism. I’m talking about an active shooting situation otherwise known as a firefight. The troops job is to kill the enemy (in an effort to sustain democracy and freedom) or be killed. The enemy won’t stop so they must be put down. Unless they surrender which is a whole other situation. In an active shooter scenario, there is no “let’s shot them in the leg” so they can live another day to try and kill more Americans.

Same thing with cops. An armed sociopath or psychopath decides to resist arrest to the point where he/she starts shooting at police in an attempt to kill the police should be met with the same deadly force. Unless they surrender which is a whole other situation. In this active shooting scenario, you don’t attempt to mace them, use your baton or “shot them in the leg” so they can live another day to shoot someone else which could be anybody. It could be you. These armed suspects made their decision on who lives or dies not the police. Although police are perusing attempting to enforce the law, they are in a defensive posture at this point in the scenario. There is a thing called Suicide by Cop.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Suicide_by_cop

Many of these recent incidents across the country could fall into this category but none of us know the intricate details of each case. Just what we read in the newspapers, watch on the news then only perceive which is never enough to make any kind of rational assessment. That is up to law enforcement officials, their respective district attorney’s office and in some cases federal authorities.

Understanding of course that Troops deal with a lot more than just getting shot at when the enemy is trying to kill them. I was focusing in on active shooting scenarios (firearms) only.

Although the Boston Marathon suspects, the asshole Tsarnaev brothers, were throwing home made bombs at police when being pursued. That must have been close to what our troops go through I bet.
