Here’s another story of suburban parents gone mad, out of Wilmington:

Attacks on social media and parents who “put the needs of their own child ahead of the needs of the group” prompted two Wilmington Middle School teachers to stop running the school’s popular Washington, D.C. trip for eighth graders. Lynda Spinazola and Missy Simmons, who have taken about 250 students to Washington every year for the past nine years, said in a letter to the Wilmington School Committee that they had been attacked “in the community” and on “numerous social media sites.” In announcing their decision, the two said it was “unlikely” any other teachers would take over the volunteer effort to organize and lead the trip.

“Parent complaints have become abusive and unreasonable,” they wrote in their June 15 letter, which was read to the Wilmington School Committee at Wednesday night’s meeting. “Adolescents seem to be struggling now more than ever with emotional issues that cannot reasonably be supported on an overnight, out-of-state trip.”

Insane parent emails huh? Sounds familiar. Where have I heard this before? Oh yea, the Braintree nutjobs who got the greatest coach in the state to throw her hands up in the air and resign in frustration. It’s almost as if there’s a pattern in suburban towns where a small percentage of overbearing parents think they have the answers to everything, so they harass teachers relentlessly. And instead of administrators doing something to stand up for their employees, they side with the parents because it’s easier to just give these psychos whatever they want.

In recent years, the teachers have grown frustrated with parents of students. In their letter, Spinazola and Simmons said a parent who lost a deposit after pulling their child from the trip called them “a disgrace.” Other parents had called the school office when their child was on the trip and needed an aspirin or didn’t get a doughnut when the trip went to a doughnut shop. The two also said a nurse had been “verbally abused” after disciplining a child on the trip.

How dare you discipline my bratty child or not give them a donut!!! What do you think you are, some sort of authority figure? I don’t know how things worked back in the day, but nowadays we give children trophies for losing and teach them that they are never, ever wrong. If for some reason they get a bad grade or get in trouble on a school field trip, it’s important to find a way to blame it on the teachers first. This is how parenting works in 2017. Just ask this guy:

Many parents were upset by the decision, which they learned about at the start of the school year. In a letter to the school committee, Wilmington parent Todd Flynn said he was “disgusted” by the trip’s cancellation and said many parents believe the teachers are ending the trip as a leveraging tactic in their union’s ongoing salary negotiations with the administration.

“All we are ever told is how dedicated the staff of the Wilmington Public Schools are,” Flynn wrote. “Obviously this does not include the staff of the Wilmington Middle School.”

Oh look, we found one of the problem parents. He’s “disgusted” that teachers working for free during their vacation don’t wanna deal with his pscyho babble bullshit. Notice how he points out that “many parents” agree with him too. This is how you know he’s the Alpha Male of dooshnozzle parents. Because they ALWAYS mention “other parents” being upset to make it look like there’s a group revolt. The Braintree Mom did the same thing:

Screen Shot 2017-04-10 at 10.56.37 PM

In reality it’s just him. Maybe a couple others are upset about the donut thing, but there is no group revolt. But these small handful of people are RELENTLESS. And they consume such a disproportional amount of time for the volunteer teachers. They get bombarded with emails, called down to the principal’s office to explain things, and because they’re teachers they have to attempt to reconcile with these people who clearly are insane. And instead of administrators just telling them to fuck off, they humor them because they’re afraid of them too.

But I’m sure the vast majority of Wilmington MS parents are great people who respect the work the teachers are doing. And now their kids lose out because of Todd Flynn.

Funny that Todd blames this on the teacher’s union too. Ya know, because he works for the Sheriff’s Department:

And I’m pretty sure most CO’s are unionized and understand that unions are a good thing. But God forbid the teachers decide that working for free isn’t nearly as fulfilling when a couple whiny slobjobs are up their ass about donuts the entire time they’re in Washington.

Sucks because it looks like the trip was a really big deal at WMS:

The two teachers who had the minerals to cancel this trip are heroes. They are heroes, not just because they pursued a noble and selfless profession, but because they weren’t afraid to stand up to one of the biggest problems plaguing this country today – parents who have never been told to shut the fuck up. Granted the teachers did not use this sort of language because they are professional and measured, but the message was still loud and clear – this is all your fault.

If anyone knows who the parents are (especially donut mom), or has any other details about this episode of suburban parents gone mad, we’d be very interested in a followup.

Teachers were not working for free. Their 14-16 weeks of vacation time are built into their annual salary/contract. They get paid every week.

The real question is, why do college grads with Master’s degrees need someone to negotiate their contract for them? Only in government work where kickbacks go straight to democrats.

“Teachers were not working for free. Their 14-16 weeks of vacation time are built into their annual salary/contract.”

Teachers are paid for the 210, 190, 180 or however many days their specific district and contract stipulates. They are salaried, not hourly, employees.

Salaries are paid out per the payroll schedule (for example, 24 pay periods a calendar year). So, a contract states the teacher is being paid a salary of $x, for working y# of days, and that salary will be divided into a specific # of pay periods.

Just because a teacher gets a check during the week that is spring break or Christmas vacation, it wouldn’t mean he is getting paid for working THAT week. If the district sends checks over the summer (some do, some don’t), it doesn’t mean the teacher is being paid to work over the summer. It means he is getting paid a portion of the salary for the other 190 or however many days that he is contracted to work.

So, if teachers are taking students on trips on spring break (outside of the contractual # of working days), the teachers are NOT being paid to do that.

The exception would be if a teacher is a club or group sponsor/advisor, receives a stipend for the position, and the trip is considered a duty of that position. In that case, the teacher is being paid as part of the sponsor/advisor duties.

There are serious issues that have been going on in the WMS for the last few years that have spiraled out of control because of parents over ruling the teachers, school staff and authorities to make sure their child does not get in trouble or gets whatever they need (like that donut)! They are like lunatics with there threats and connections. They blame everyone besides their child! It is out of control!! The kids are being brought up like they are privileged and they act like they are entitled because of their parents! The school needs to set rules for these kids (they know who they are) and enforce them! These kids wind up being bullies in life because of their parents! They need to be stopped!! Now everyone is being effected by the loss of the best field trip that every 8th grader should look forward to taking thanks to the ungrateful parent that had to complain! I’m sure she’s not losing sleep because she doesn’t have anymore kids going through middle school!

Todd the Toddler works at the Sheriffs Department. Mommy and Daddy got the loser a job. The “do you know who I am” crowd. Yup. Donaters to campaigns. Whoopdedo. aThey think they are big shots but the truth is they had to give to candidates to get jobs cause they are too stupid to pass a civil service test. They are bullies by nature. I prefer to call them what they really are. Asswipes.

Immature and regressive parents have existed forever, but you can thank social media for this special kind of hyped up drama, where “adults” whip themselves and others into a frenzy and relive their middle school and high school grudges, after the kids go to sleep.

Social media is a steroid for the sociopathic mind, as we see time after time here on TB. Really doesn’t matter if you’re a hockey dad in a cul-de-sac in Wilmington or a junkbox prowling Fall River.

Facebook is the mental slum where emotional midgets grind their teeth in their McMansions or their flop house at 1 AM. I’ve been off Facebook for 5 years, but now that I have young kids that will be approaching public school age, I am ever more grateful I quit it when I did.

And that Todd Flynn guy can especially go fuck himself.

Yeah unions for private sector jobs are fine. But police unions fuck us as much as they fuck themselves. Why do cops need to work 8 hour details before or after a shift? Why not hire more cops? Why do cops beat prisoners who push their buttons while others watch and not report it. Unions

It is hard for me to feel any sympathy for these public school teachers, who are now starting to reap what they have sowed, the result of decades of liberal-think indoctrination of children in the public school system. Perhaps they can thank their teacher’s union for all those donations made to liberal democrats over the years.

The road to hell is paved with unintended consequences – then again knowing what your union dues are really paying for is no secret, either.
Unfortunately, you are legally required to let the unions shake you down to be a public school teacher in this liberal cesspool of a state. Unions are nothing more than Democrat-supported Organized Crime syndicates. Zero difference between them and the Mafia.

“… you are legally required to let the unions shake you down to be a public school teacher in this liberal cesspool of a state. ”

This may have changed in the past few years, but in the past, you did NOT have to be a union member to be a public school teacher. Non-members worked under the same contract as union members (same pay, etc.). However, they obviously had less rights (ie: right to file grievances, etc.) than union member if the contract was being violated.

PS – Kudos to the teachers for saying enough is enough. Who wants to volunteer to put up with that crap, responsibility and ingratitude of field trips? Todd Flynn, et al – take your own family to DC and pack all of the aspirins and donuts you want!

In nj i had no choice whatsoever as a secretary in the dental hygiene dept at a local community college. I lasted there 4 yrs and actually had to take the college to court twice over them not processing my disability benefits leaving me totally uninsured. The union had me waiting 2 yrs for fmla and a five minute phone call to the labor wage and hour board i found out i was on fmla but the college hr idiot said i was not and they were actually sanctioned as they denied every single fmla applicant. Nj is kne of the few states that has paid fmla and dads of new or adopted babies take it also.

By the time i filed in court the 2nd time it was too late for me. Stress makes my 6 plus autoimmune diseases much worse and within the first year of having the intermittent fmla i just stopped working to file for my permanent disability for the 2nd time. It was awful. They actually wanted me to run for union president i laughed saying I cannot lie to hundreds of people with a straight face. Also i would be in my grave already. Technically you can leave the union but you still have to psy and give up the benefit of having a union but i never in all those yrs got a single bit of help from them. My husband works there also and has had nothing but problems for over 26 yrs but feels he can’t leave and start over at his age

On my 8th Grade Washington trip, me and my friends ran absolutely wild. It was an all week free-for-all. No one paid attention to any of the monuments or museums, everyone just fooled around and made a mockery of it. I can’t imagine being a chaperone on that trip – no way.

I happened to have been taught by one of the teachers in middle school who had organized the trip over the years, and I can’t thank them enough for their hard work. They truly are heros for standing up to Know-it-all-Todd. This unreasonably angered parent doesn’t belong in our town.

Todd & Kim, you should be ashamed of yourself. By the way, I know our local school trips also require selfless awesome parent chaperones that give up their free time to go on the class trip and help.

Todd & Kim, have you ever volunteered and attended one of these trips or similiar ? …… of course not.

Get your shit together “Turtleboy.” As Mr. Flynn said, this writing is a disgrace and I really hope he takes legal action against you.
