This is Mount Hope (Bristol-Warren RI) English teacher Lisa Melmed.
Yesterday a concerned parent posted a screenshot of what she was teaching to kids remotely.
Yes, that’s right – your tax dollars pay 7th grade English teachers not to teach your kids how to read and write, but to acknowledge that white men have privileges. Nowhere in the Rhode Island state educational frameworks is anything listed about this. The teacher is just using her position to brainwash kids with social justice bullshit. Even if you believed that white privilege was a thing, it’s a theory or opinion at best. It’s certainly not a fact.
From the looks of it this teacher polled the students to ask who they thought was privileged, which is why it says men more than once. What would happen if someone said black women? Would she put that up there too, or correct the student? Because I can make a pretty strong case just by pointing to the ongoing existence of Monica Cannon-Grant that there’s a lot of percs and things you can get away with being black and female in society that you couldn’t get away with if you were white and male.
All an assignment like this does is make children feel bad about themselves if they’re part of groups that get labeled as privileged. It causes other kids in class who aren’t a part of these privileged groups to resent them.
The principal was alerted to the post and sent the following email out to parents, spinning it as a lesson about Catcher in the Rye.
Today, it was brought to my attention that there were concerns raised about an English Language Arts introductory lesson to a unit in which students will be reading the literary classic, J.D. Salinger’s The Catcher in the Rye. The lesson introduced the concept of privilege so that students could ultimately compare Holden’s struggles to those of people from less fortunate backgrounds. It is important to us that our community be aware of the context and intent of the curriculum. This past summer, the district formed a Diversity Group composed of community members, parents, students, teachers, school committee members, and administrators. The team met throughout the summer to examine and reflect on our current practices and resources, with the goal of ensuring the inclusion of underrepresented groups in our curricula. As part of that work, our English teachers collaborated to update our curricula, including how we teach Catcher in the Rye, to align with current social issues and connect to other diverse texts. Drawing from current events and contemporary writings, we have added supplemental documents that make the content more relevant to today’s students. Our curriculum presents a variety of viewpoints challenging students to develop informed opinions, to respect diversity and, ultimately, to become culturally responsible citizens. At a time of social unrest, I applaud the English department for their commitment to include more diverse voices and texts to broaden our student’s understanding of society as a whole and especially of oppressed or marginalized groups. Thank you for your ongoing support!
Sincerely, Dr. Deb DiBiase
They formed a “diversity group” in a town in which 0.8% of the population is black, because pretending to care about black people is a lot easier than moving to a place with black people in it.
This line said it all.
As part of that work, our English teachers collaborated to update our curricula, including how we teach Catcher in the Rye, to align with current social issues and connect to other diverse texts.
They’re changing the curriculum completely because of black lives matter. They used to teach the book one way, but now they’re teaching it another way because BLM has taken over the public schools.
Catcher in The Rye is a classic piece of American literature. It chronicled the story of a bratty, bored wealthy kid who wanted to rebel. From a historical perspective it’s a useful tool in teaching kids about the baby boomer generation who grew up in the affluent 50’s and early 60’s, and their yearning for purpose while growing up in one of the most prosperous time periods in American history. Holden Caulfield’s generation had never lived through the Great Depression or World War 2. They knew nothing of hardship, and despite having all the material things they could possibly need, their lives were boring an unfilled which is why he rebelled. He thought everyone around him was “phony,” and his generation went on to push for social change in the late 1960’s.
That is the context in which Catcher in the Rye should be taught, because that was the message J.D. Salinger was trying to send as a beat culture writer. His book was banned in schools because it promoted immorality, Holden had a potty mouth, and he tried to bang a hooker. That is the lesson of the book – a new generation of writers were challenging conventional norms. Holden Caulfield was a child of rebellion, but the same could be said about any black kid in the 1950’s growing up listening to rhythm and blues. Their parents wouldn’t have liked it either. This teacher is bastardizing public education and a classic book in American literature because George Floyd died.
But of course these white guilt dolts are cheering the teacher on.
And their brainwashing campaign is clearly working too.
“These kids are a lot more aware and capable than many realize.”
There is a 0.0% chance Andrea Bee would say that if a student posted something about the importance of building a wall or not infringing on the second amendment. These people LOVE to use children and tell us how wise they are, because at the end of the day their critical thinking skills are on par with your average 11th grader.

Absolutely wouldn’t and that’s saying something because I’m an easy grader. Pass her off to Bones or Sulu..no not him. Chekhov. He’s always on the prowl. He’s worse than I am.
You all don’t even know privelege while it’s slapping you in the face. This is most illiterate collection of racist replies I’ve ever read.
Not only are you violating students right to privacy by posting their answers here, you’re also lying and saying the teacher gave them those answers. Those are students answers.
you people need to get a grip and go find something legitimate to be upset about, like the fact that your president is going to take away your insurance and your social security.
Your white male privilege is showing and we can all see it because we were educated. If you can’t well…
There is no “WHITE PRIVILEGE” ….. it’s called white people getting out of bed in the morning, going to work to get things in life! NOT LOOTING, BREAKING WINDOWS, SETTING THINGS ON FIRE,BLOCKING TRAFFIC.
With all due respect and I mean every last bit of it, You need to understand something.
Your narrow ass hasn’t been around long enough to be sick of anything.
You are not imparting worldly advice and you are not wise beyond your very few years, despite what some middle aged, woke, suburbanite-n-lily-white bitch sipping Pinot G and pining for the physical affections of a male POC is telling you.
You are conditioned and adept at regurgitation of propaganda, nothing more. You are in NO position to lecture anyone that is your elder and has been living real life beyond the hallowed halls of high school academia. You have a whole lot of learning ahead of you, still.
Life can be a harsh education, even more so if you’ve been indoctrinated to believe a certain set of pseudofacts regarding how the world works. I predict you’re in for one hell of a shock to your belief system.
I don’t blame you, just to be clear. The onus is on the indoctrinating teachers and social justice hens, cackling away about concepts of injustice that are either way overblown or do not exist at all.
Finally, if that is not your real last name, bravo on the troll moniker.
schlastic and these school union officials are pushing common core which means 2+2=5 cuz you can’t bare to have students you can’t just run through the grades… we an average of a 4th grade reading/writing/math grade at passing level. they just wanna pass them on.
I took the Civil Service exam without shame,
A n***** next to me took his too and he couldn’t even write his own name.
He got the job and is now top brass,
I’m thrown out onto my ass.
Damn, I wish I were a n*****.
I’m still waiting for all this privilege I’m supposed to be rolling in.
Preferences in college admissions? Nope. Job candidacy? Not in the private sector, and absofuckinglutely not if going for a civil service job. Keeping job if accused of wrongdoing? Might as well pack your desk. Free shit? Where? What?
Meanwhile, I’m vilified for the color of my skin and blamed for all of society’s ills. There’s a word for that, what is that? Oh yeah–RACISM!!!
“…pretending to care about black people is a lot easier than moving to a place with black people in it.” Its a lot safer too. Believe me, I know…
How rich that there’s a “diversity group” in this town that’s less diverse than North Korea.
Note to Mia Fartura, senior at Mt. Hope: Everything you know is a lie. Your mind has been filled with untruths, lies and deception. This has been done by intelligent and duplicitous older people with the hopes of limiting the freedoms that you and your generation will grow up with, and with the hope of wresting control of your nation away from you and your fellow citizens.
“sick of watching your generation”: stereotype much or what? You need to talk to people in the older generations, not just rely on what has been filtered and delivered to you via twitter and the teachers. The older generations have done many great things, and this is the reason that people from all over the world are flocking to the United States. But the bad thing done in earlier years, was the national debt, and that is something that every one of us in the older generations regrets having happened. And for that debt, we have welfare policies that encourage people to breed and not work, and then we get wars along the way too. In terms of pushing these social injustice issues aside, we have seen that the politicians have been making the situations worse, and that is why we don’t want to keep paying for counterproductive policies.
I’ll boil down “white privilege” for you: (1) adopt good ideas from other cultures, (2) love your family, (3) have 2 parents around to raise kids, (4) take care of your mind and body, (5)use an alarm clock, (6) learn a trade or skill, (7) go to work, (8) thank God for your blessings, (9) give 10% to 40% of your income to a government that hates you so they can spend it on things that won’t benefit anyone except the “tied in” people.
But it is not the role of the schools to be promoting that ideology or any other. How about we talk about whether the schools should promote firearms rights, or whether there suggesting there are more than two genders is really just facilitating mental illness.
Now I had to take time out of my working day to get this set of ideas to you. Time to go to work.
We are seeing the end result of school “Reform” in real life…
Thursday night on Fox Tucker Carlson went off about the 1619 project, a sinister lib initiative to destroy the nuclear family, eliminate individual home ownership and rewrite American history. He promised to give an email address so people could send in stories just like this. Donald is all over this one. He has Princeton in his crosshairs. Opportunity knocks people. He didn’t post it last night because RBG croaked.
This crap has to stop. It has gone way too far. Our schools are doing a terrible job preparing our students for the real world. Now, what does any of this have to do with learning English and learning how to read, write, and speak effectively.
Barbie?
Not.
Hey Turtleboy, can you tell me where in that screenshot there is any mention of J.D. Salenger’s book, The Catcher in the Rye? In fact, I cannot see anything about English in that screenshot at all.
Seeing as my old pal Sheeza has been blacklisted, I’ll pick up the torch.
These woke twats are out of cuntrol and need to be stopped. Period. End of story.
Oh and that last broad’s name is FARTura? Really? That should be a comment all by itself.
So Mia Fartura is sick of seeing an older generation of people pushing aside “social injustices” and she gets applauded by a member of the older generation for being essentially, woke. This is absolutely ludicrous that we’re supposed to hold a childs manufactured vision of the current day world in such high regard so that we can learn from her/them. We may as well allow all people the right to vote no matter the age. I actually think mayor curtatone is doing an injustice by only allowing people over 16 to vote in local elections. Where is Mia’s outrage in this? Hell why isn’t a teenager on the ballot for president of the united states? I think Mia and her advisors should lobby and advocate for a teenage candidate so the children are equally represented.
I can not wait until the the day of reckoning comes when these fascist socialist pigs will be viewed through a scope of reason, and are persecuted. I hope I live to see the day. It’s disturbing just how troubling it is they don’t see the parallels between what they are doing and how socialism unfolded in eastern Europe and beyond, and the catastrophe it was to humanity.
Not through a “scope of reason”, but through the scope of an AR-15. There’s one word for what the cultural Marxists like this pinko teacher are bringing to this country, and that word is “boogaloo”. Remember it…
Thankfully my White Privilege kicked in so I don’t have to give a shit about any of this nonsense.
You know what happens when you force Military organizations to promote unqualified black and brown women to leadership positions?
People die. That’s what happens…and it’s never their fault.
The picture of her in the maroon top and the blue outfit are old pictures. Don’t you hate it when woman post pictures of themselves on Facebook that look more like their daughters? That woman teaching looks 20 years older than other pictures. She’s an idiot all the way around.
She does look young still! She’s my good friend and I’m not sure what that has to do with anything. People that have a problem with any of this are racist themselves. Get a grip.
What a hideous looking bitch
Do you think she finds bird shit on those teeth
These fucking commie/blm terrorists can suck white balls. Being white is not advantageous at all in life. How the fuck are these fucking retarded nerds getting away with shoving communism in our faces while hijacking a black persons struggles!
Jewish education. This is why the brown shirts matter not “blue” lives.
So freakin glad my kid is out of school, especially now with this SJW and Commie-cold bullshit running rampant.
This left/communist crap has been going on in public schools for a long time, but now they’re very overt about it. Good, keep identifying yourselves! In the not-too-distant future, all these Flakebook and Twatter posts will be used as evidence against you!
This cunt looks like she could eat an ear of corn through a picket fence. Who the fuck is she to indoctrinate kids into Marxist beliefs?
Fuck her and all of her phony liberal pals.
im latoya and i be not likin y’all privlige and what not
What’s funny is that a white male is now the least privileged person in this country. For my entire professional career I have seen businesses bend over backwards to accommodate women. In our culture this is further reinforced. And it’s only getting worse. Now every institution is working feverishly to increase “diversity”. It’s not just more black people. It’s more people other than white straight males.
It’s all there for you to see in this thing called intersectionality or the progressive stack. It’s the same thing, btw. The progressive stack force ranks society into groups based on their current or historical “oppression”. The rubric for this is – race, sex, sexual orientation and even ability. So, the top of this new caste system is a disabled peg leg trans-species lesbian.
Note: this is a caste system. Make no mistake about it. There are many hypocritical elements to the left. In this context, the left says they’re against hierarchy and they want to abolish all hierarchies. They also regard hierarchies as “social constructs”, because they like to pretend that white men made all those incredible discoveries and accomplishments because they imposed their artificial patriarchy onto the world. It’s an excuse to make them feel better about themselves.
Here’s the thing the progressive stack is a hierarchy and it is most definitely a social construct because it is absolutely an artificial thing imposed on society.
Consider that the progressive stack is nothing more than an inversion of merit. It takes the lowest people of society and elevates them to the top. So, in all of our institutions people are being hired and promoted to the highest positions not on their merit but on their race or orientation etc.
You can’t get very far in life under such conditions.
This is what we’re up against.
For crying out loud, there are so many wonderful books out there – how the hell are they still marooned on this played out piece of crap!
….but I would be pumping my fist knowing I had an advantage over everyone else!!
These unelected social justice groups and committees exist everywhere.
More communism, of course. Who appointed these committees?
Enough felons get shot by police and now the committee decides what the children are brainwashed with. Generation after generation. POOF Welcome to MASSJW.
