Hello Turtle Riders. As you know if you follow Turtleboy we are constantly getting censored and banned by Facebook for what are clearly not violations of their terms of service. Twitter has done the same, and trolls mass reported our blog to Google AdSense thousands of times, leading to demonitization. We can get by and survive, but we could really use your help. The big news over the weekend was tragic out of Worcester, as firefighter Chris Roy died while battling a blaze in Main South. He leaves a 9 year old daughter behind. This picture from photographer Paul Shea is amazing.

What a tragedy.

It’s especially traumatic because December has been a very cruel month for the WFD. In 1999 they lost six in the Worcester Cold Storage Warehouse Fire. Then in 2011 they lost Jon Davies in an Arlington Street fire, on the same day that Chris Roy perished (December 8).

I don’t know why this seems to keep happening in Worcester, as this is beyond bad luck. All I know is that you have to be insanely brave and ballsy to be a firefighter. These people sign up to go into raging infernos that could collapse at any moment, to save people they don’t know. On top of that they respond to 911 calls every day that are life and death situations. They see people of all ages die. They are the ones who call family members of the deceased to give them the worst news of their life. Then they go to work the next day and do it again. I couldn’t imagine doing such a stressful and traumatic job, but yet these people sign up to do it, because someone has to do it. As a matter of fact several of the children of the Worcester six are not Worcester firefighters themselves.

Worcester is one of those cities where everyone knows each other, or at least knows of each other. I’m the same age as Chris Roy, and I’m seeing a lot of my friends sharing pictures of Chris on Facebook. He was a Burncoat/SPM kid who I didn’t know personally, but he obviously kept good company because everyone sharing their memories of him are really good people.

Friends tell us that he was such a good father. A single father with sole custody. Imagine how terrible that is for her. Her father had a good job that would guarantee she would have every chance and opportunity to make something of herself. Now he’s gone and we can’t let her become a statistic. She is going to need lots of support. A lot of people have asked how they can help, and I think the best course of action would be to donate to the Greg Hill foundation. Greg Hill does amazing work with his non-profit, and has raised millions of dollars after tragedies like this. It’s the most legit and trustworthy foundation to donate to, and can be found in this tweet.

Don’t give to any GoFundMe’s you see unless you know for sure that it has been approved and vetted by either Chris’ family or the WFD. If you see one that looks shady feel free to let us know so we can do what we do.

In the meantime, a turtle riding paramedic wrote this wonderful tribute to Chris Roy that is well worth your time to read.

What does life insurance have to do with anything?? I will wait for your answer……. Life insurance or not she will need more money than that, I am sure his parents don’t make half as much as he made a year. Very insensitive question!!
