So we saw this today and laughed:

Ah yes, 105.5, Flava Radio Station. Joe Petty is giving them awards now. This is the station that just recently hosted Boom-Boom, Orange Julius Jones, and Kevin the Kreeper Ksen, as they defended their actions of blockading Kelley Square one year ago.

Of course the highlight of the video happened when Boom-Boom famously said that she didn’t have to follow these “laws” and “rules,” because they’re not real:

If we just stop for a second, these “laws,” and “policies,” and “rules,” – this is not, in my view, real.”

Yup. Laws aren’t real. This is the type of message that 105.5 Flava Radio promotes. And this is the station that Petty has chosen to give an award to. I guess it’s not surprising really. After all, this is the same Mayor who gave the key to the city to known criminal, ex-convict, repeat offender, Nathan Pickens.

Here’s something else we found out about this station – it’s an illegal pirate radio station. It violates federal law to operate a radio station without an FCC license. Those who choose to ignore this regulation are considered pirate radio stations. The frequencies they use to broadcast steal signals from other regulated stations, and thus hurt the ratings, and affect the ability that other stations have to get advertisers. And in Worcester, 105.5 steals signals from 105.7 and 105.3. The latter is a sports talk radio station that testified on Beacon Hill about the adverse affect that this illegal radio station has had on their business:

Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 11.28.47 PMScreen Shot 2016-01-17 at 11.29.02 PM Flava 105.5 was operating out of a building on Grafton Street illegally for years:

One such tenant was Flava 105.5, a radio station specializing in reggae and hip hop. While the station broadcast for at least two years out of Osgood Bradley and drew local politicians to its airwaves it was not licensed.

Wyatt wasn’t aware of that last fact until a day in April 2010 when a representative from the Federal Communications Commission showed up, demanding to see where the wire from the station’s roof antennae led.

Screen Shot 2015-12-01 at 10.29.56 AM

According to The Telegram & Gazette, station manager Leroy Simon Jr. had previously been ordered to stop broadcasting from a private home in 2009. The station broadcast over the Internet during the day, but took to the airwaves by night, the Telegram reported.

On that day, the property manager was not working, so Wyatt was reached in his office. Wyatt said he gave the FCC access to the building. The wire led to the sixth floor, and to a locked studio.

They received a cease and desist from the FCC in 2010 – the third they had received and subsequently ignored:

Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 11.25.02 PM Screen Shot 2016-01-17 at 11.25.10 PM

But yet they continued by just moving around and stealing more signals. And here is the Mayor of Worcester awarding this criminal enterprise which supports terrorists who block our streets, call our police murderers and racists, and steal from the taxpayers. Disgusting.

Screen Shot 2015-12-01 at 10.10.28 AM

This particular radio station has also caused problems for people living in the Main South part of town:

They also promote live, DJ-performed shows in local clubs. This has been a source of conflict in the past, as some neighborhood activists in Main South have complained about the large, noisy crowds at Flava-sponsored shows.

Screen Shot 2016-01-18 at 12.10.12 AM

So why doesn’t Leroy Simon, the criminal who runs this illegal pirate radio station, simply get a broadcast license from the FCC?

First, they are expensive. Second, he would likely have to give up the 105.5 location, as it is too close to FM WROR 105.7, which operates out of Boston but can be heard in Worcester. In fact, WROR might be a real victim here, as its signal could get blurred with Flava’s.

Yea, why pay money and play by the rules when you can just steal shit, take what doesn’t belong to you, and STILL get rewarded by the Mayor of Worcester? Rules and regulations are for suckers. When you know the people in charge aren’t gonna hold you accountable, you have no incentive to obey the law. These are special people, and thus get special treatment. Because make no doubt about it – if Petty didn’t support this station he would be accused of being a racist. After all, it’s a black owned radio station, just as Mosaic is a black run non-profit. Those are untouchable. And if you disagree, then you’re a racist. And of course we all know that Mayor Puddy is far too gutless to ever take a stand that would get him crucified by the PC police.
Screen Shot 2016-01-18 at 12.07.24 AM

Leroy Simon is a real winner too. He’s been sued in court more times than you can count, and despite the fact that he always loses, he never has to pay:

Solid guy right there. Chantel Bethea also received a bunch of awards at this photo session. Her court record is fun too:

Pretty standard for Jumpin’ Joe Petty. This is a man who spit in North High teacher Janice Harvey’s face when she was publicly humiliated by her principal and called a racist in a schoolwide email, for using the term “color-blind.” Instead of defending this teacher, or giving her an award for her service to the community, he sided with management, and told the Union that Lisa Dyer was doing a “great job” as principal at North High.

He has no time for people like Janice Harvey because a photoshoot with them won’t look as good on Jim McGovern’s desk. Where’s the diversity? Because at the end of the day Joe Petty would rather reward criminals enterprises, so long as they make him look more progressive in photographs.

Why does Petty so crave having his photo taken? He is old, fat, gray, balding, ferret-faced, ugly and unprepossessing. Also, his suit sleeves and trousers are laughingly long, a sartorial faux pas usually reserved for recent refugees and dock workers owning only one suit.

Why don’t they just obtain an FCC License other than the cost?? Oh, yeah…“If we just stop for a second, these “laws,” and “policies,” and “rules,” – this is not, in my view, real.”

How about this people….get a JOB, get a LIFE and follow society’s laws and rules!

And how about this Jumpin Joe…hand out awards to hard-working people that truly deserve to be recognized! And stop pissing tax-payers hard-earned money down the Mosaic drain.

Come on turtle boy, at least give us one sentence on just who and how the awards came about. Did they have a fund raiser, food drive, out reach program? Someone tell Mike Moore a trip to a hairstylist would go a long way to improve his image in these photo ops.

Oh boy, another hit piece on Petty! This article has nothing to do with the FCC, or the pirate radio station. This is just political bs to those of us who can read between the lines. At least wait until next year before you really begin stumping for your boy Gaffney!

The FCC consumer help site allows anyone to easily log a complaint against a pirate radio station. I would encourage you to do so as it only takes a few moments. Unfortunately, the FCC is tight or resources to follow-up on these complaints and I’m sure the pirate broadcasters are fully aware of this. So the more people that log complaints, the better chance they will be looked into.

Back in 2009, I contacted the FCC about this station, going so far as finding the transmitter for them, which was in a 3 decker on Camassa Terrace off Shrewsbury St. I live about a mile away and whenever they were broadcasting, all the speakers in my house started clicking and making static noises, even when the speakers were off, it was awful.

Eventually they moved to Grafton St and the speaker issues went away, but I still can’t listen to WROR in the house because their signal is too strong on the adjacent frequency.

Time for all of the Turtle riders to flood the FCC with complaints about this illegal operation stopping us from listening to our favorite radio station.
