Hey fam – if you’d like to support Turtleboy and what we do here, feel free to hit the donate button at the top. We basically have to run this site like a Bernie Sanders campaign now since we’ve been blacklisted by Google and Facebook, due to the fact that rabid SJWs keep reporting our posts. Getting blacklisted by Google is a death sentence for most websites, since it’s much harder to monetize. And we all know the damage Facebook has done. We’re never going to stop fighting for free speech, but in the meantime the best way for turtle riders to fight back is to donate to the cause. Without you people none of this is possible. We love you all.

Hey there Turtle fam! Mr. Chris Woods Emerson gave me a head’s up about this year’s 5K walk/run being held by the Worcester Police Department and I thought you all should know about it since the charity that 100% of all proceeds are being donated to is a very worthy cause. This year all funds collected are going to the Special Olympics Of Massachusetts. Here’s what the event on Facebook says:

The Worcester City View 5k is an initiative of the Worcester Police Department established in 2017. The goal of the City View 5k is to provide support for various community organizations whose objective it is to serve at risk populations in the City of Worcester. Did you know that some surveys estimate that the overall rate of people with disabilities in the US population is 12.6%? With that in mind, The City View 5k has selected the Special Olympics of Massachusetts as our community partner group for 2018!

The Special Olympics of Massachusetts provides year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities; Giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness and prepare for entry into school and community programs. The Special Olympics of Massachusetts and the Law Enforcement Torch Run also helps these athletes demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts and skills. But most importantly it builds friendships with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. All Funds generated from the City View 5k will allow The Special Olympics of Massachusetts to continue promoting their message of inclusion and community throughout the City of Worcester and the Central Massachusetts region.”

As a runner, I really can’t think of a better way to spend a Sunday in September than a 5K for this kind of cause. As per the FAQ page on the Special Olympics website, these would be the folks you’d be giving a hand in being able to participate in really fun activities:

To be eligible to participate in Special Olympics, you must be at least 8 years old and identified by an agency or professional as having one of the following conditions: intellectual disabilities, cognitive delays as measured by formal assessment, or significant learning or vocational problems due to cognitive delay that require or have required specially designed instruction. The Special Olympics Young Athletes™ program was created for children with intellectual disabilities ages 2 through 7.”

That covers a really good percentage of people with some sort of disability that otherwise might not get the chance to be part of some type of competitive sport. I think we can all agree that that’s pretty friggin’ awesome and that anyone should be able to get the chance to do the sportsball and shooty hoops, or whatever thing they like in a supportive and encouraging way. It’s important to be challenged and be able to do something you love and this organization facilitates that. So come one out for a good cause, yeah?

This 5K walk/run is taking place on September 16th starting at 10 am and going until 1 pm, folks will be meeting at Wormtown Bewery which is located at 72 Shrewsbury Street, #4 in Worcester, MA and that’s where the 5K will also end. It’s being hosted by Mr. Brian Piskator who can be emailed at bpiskator@gmail.com. in case you missed it, here’s the link for the Facebook event right here. Here’s the RaceWire event link. Just for good measure here’s the link for the Special Olympics Massachusetts website here.  And because I’m extra helpful, here’s the course map:

We also urge you guys to check out the sponsors of this event, as well.

Side note, I did not take that crappy picture of the lovely sponsors, Chris Woods Emerson did. If y’all got something to say, click the link attached to his name.

Remember guys, this isn’t just a 5K run, you can also walk so it’s something that folks in a really wide range of athletic ability can be a part of. It’s going to a lot of fun for a really great cause. Everybody go and register now  as this is happening next weekend. See you there!

I’m not running for any cause, not in this heat. If it’s a flat course I’m willing to pedal a bicycle.
