LUNENBURG — The father of a former Lunenburg football player said Thursday night the community his family has lived in for more than 15 years has shown its true colors in the months after racist graffiti was found on their home in November.
Anthony J. Phillips and his 13-year-old son, Isaac, were at the center of what many labeled a hate crime. Mr. Phillips and Isaac’s mother, Andrea J. Brazier, told authorities on Nov. 13 that someone spray-painted “Knights don’t need n——” on the back of the family’s home. Ms. Brazier is white and Mr. Phillips is black.
The Blue Knights are the Lunenburg sports teams.
Shortly after the incident was reported, Mr. Phillips said, community members started turning on the family.
“The past few months have been very difficult for my family,” Mr. Phillips said in a statement late Thursday night. “We’re glad to hear about recent developments and all the support we’ve received from outside communities.
“It’s unfortunate the community we live in hasn’t shown its support and has shown their true colors.”
Mr. Phillips’ comments came the day after Worcester District Attorney Joseph D. Early Jr.’s office released a statement saying there was not enough evidence to charge anyone with a crime in the graffiti case.
For months preceding the graffiti incident, Isaac’s parents allege, he was bullied by Lunenburg football players and school officials did nothing.
Lunenburg School Superintendent Loxi Jo Calmes acknowledged school officials were aware of incidents involving Isaac, but refuse to label them as bullying. In a related matter, Lunenburg’s athletic director apologized to Worcester South High Community School football players and coaches for racial slurs directed at them by Lunenburg players at two games on Nov. 1 and Nov. 4.
In light of the events, Ms. Calmes canceled the last two football games of the season for safety reasons, she said. Her decision ignited emotional opposition from football players and their families and some residents turned against the Phillips family.
The football team was the focus of the investigation of the graffiti incident, but police said they could find no conclusive evidence linking current members of the team to the incident.
Then, in December, Ms. Brazier became the focus of the investigation and was named the only graffiti suspect by local police.
Police and the FBI searched the Phillips’ home in December looking for “any and all instruments pertaining to the crime” and all paperwork pertaining to Ms. Brazier’s handwriting, according to a search warrant dated Dec. 3 out of Fitchburg District Court.
Isaac transferred to the Leominster public school system, where he is attending classes and participating in sports.
This story just refuses to die, and I hope it never does. It’s just too entertaining. Seriously, we go about three weeks at a time without hearing about it, and then…BOOM…another bombshell. First the parents claim that the Lunenburg football team is filled with a bunch of racists who vandalized the side of their house. Then the whole thing about kids throwing around the “n” word at Worcester South kids in the football game comes out. Seems to confirm to all the non-believers out there that this was obviously a racially motivated situation. I’ll be the first to admit that I was fooled. I totally thought we discovered some racist enclave in Northern Worcester county. When I wrote about it and everyone started calling him “colored” in the comments section, and I had to take the blog down, I felt even more validated.
I was wrong. Dead wrong. Didn’t find out until a few weeks later that the FBI found the spray paint cans in their front yard, in the fire place. When the mother was the only suspect and basically admitted it was her that did it to the FBI, this story just got a million times better. What a scandal. I figured for sure they’d file charges against her for wasting tax payer dollars on this fake witch hunt. But apparently you can just deface your own house with racist graffiti, blame it on a bunch of high school kids, and waste the valuable time of the police and FBI without any consequences. God bless America.
Who would’ve thought that this face couldn’t be trusted:
Seems like a nice lady.
So if I’m this family I’m letting out a big sigh of relief here. Really dodged a bullet there. What I certainly wouldn’t do, is what Big Daddy is doing now:
“The past few months have been very difficult for my family”
Yea, no shit Big Daddy. I would imagine being exposed as race baiters and completely humiliating your teenage son in a story that garnered national attention, wouldn’t be the easiest experience to go through. But, I mean, you had nothing to do with that right? Oh wait, you mean you were the ones who alerted the media and then took all the evidence and threw it in your front yard? Oops!
“It’s unfortunate the community we live in hasn’t shown its support and has shown their true colors.”
So let me get this straight. You attempted to frame an entire community of people and villanize them as some sort of cross burning Kleagles, made a bunch of innocent kids forfeit the final two football games of their high school career, and then used their tax dollars to investigate a crime that your nudnik wife committed, and you want them to support you? Yea, that makes sense.
Newsflash Big Daddy – the community supported you through and through. You even conned them into having a candlelight vigil for a crime that your sons loving mother committed. Remember that?
Or how about the fact that the Lunenburg Athletic Director traveled to Worcester South to offer an apology to every single kid in that school at two separate assemblies? But yea, the community isn’t supporting you at all. They should probably just look past the fact that you’re trying to assassinate their character and rile up racial animosity that doesn’t actually exist.
People on the world wide internets are still arguing over whether or not the mother actually did it. I didn’t even know this was up for debate. I mean, she obviously did it. Obviously. The evidence was in their front yard. The graffiti was conveniently kept on the foundation of the house instead of the siding, and was in the back where no one could see it. Because vandals are always very careful about not causing permanent damage and like to do their vandalizing where no one can see it. Or how about the fact that no one has come forward with any information about it. Guess what? If a kid did this then everyone would know who did it already. Guess why? Because kids are naturally boneheads who write everything on Twitter and can’t keep their mouths shut. It’s science. The fact that the FBI interviewed dozens of kids and no one said a word means that either the Mom did it, or kids at Lunenburg High School are double agents for the CIA.
Gotta love Big Daddy crying about how much he hates his town. Hey dude, this is America, you’re free to live wherever the hell you want. I mean, this is your home:
It’s not exactly the Taj Mahal. There’s plenty of palaces like that in Townsend, Fitcburg, Leominster, or whatever other community you want your son to play football in. Because that’s ultimately what this is all about right? Football. Lunenburg isn’t very good at high school football. Leominster is one of the more storied programs in state history. The graffiti artist formerly known as Mom, and Big Daddy didn’t want to watch their kid play football for a losing team, so they manufactured a scam to come up with fake racial allegations, realizing that they would be able to school choice their poor kid to Leominster for his safety.
The problem with the scam though, is that Big Momma cracked under the pressure of the lights. She admitted to the FBI that she did it. Didn’t take much either. They just suggested it and she admitted it. Case closed. But apparently Big Momma was under the impression that the FBI would just give up and skip town after her kid got into Leominster High School. Because that’s all she really wanted in the first place.
The real loser in all of this continues to be the poor kid. He’s done literally nothing wrong. This has to be the most embarrassing thing that can possibly happen to a teenager. The two people you most look up to are using you as a media pawn for their own selfish agenda. I got mad at my Mom when even acted she said hello to me in public when I was 13. I could only imagine what life is like for this kid. He needs this story to blow over. Fast. But Big Daddy apparently wants absolutely none of that. Awesome parenting bro.

Terrific article, drilled all the facts right home!!
Since the family doesn’t have the sense to be embarrassed and leave town, maybe the team should picket the house. Signs might read; Lunenburg doesn’t want lairs and trouble makers.
You have every right to be angry about what happened. But to call the parents Big Momma, Big Daddy and “Bro” and make fun of the mother’s face and the home they live in makes you an asshole. Your story would have much more integrity if you stuck to the facts and didn’t sound like such a prick.
The family acted like pricks to their own children- maybe it’s just Karma coming back to them!!!! Honestly they should just be called racist and hateful to do what they did on their own home. They are a disgrace to every ethnic background to act so evil. She is a bully and he is a chump.

Many of us in his class didn’t even know he was part black until this happened! He doesn’t look it at all!
I’m sorry but where is the proof that she so-called confessed??? Nothing has ever surfaced regarding that and don’t u think that if someone confessed to a crime that evidence isn’t even needed to prosecute. Come on people, what happened to “innocent until proven guilty”??? Give it a rest and get on with your lives….
Yes she did confess- in a round about way. When the FBI asked her if she did this her answer was OK. She also refused a polygraph and needed a lawyer for a sob session on TV- who lawyers up when they are innocent? There was no innocent until proven guilty for our Blue Knights- they were guilty right away in the media. In this case I feel bad for their children- they have to live with parents who do this to the house they live in- just awful really. I wonder what they are going to do when their son Isaac wears out his welcome in Leominster- cuz it’s already happening……..and BTW the word ‘need’ spraypainted on the house is first person. If an outsider did it- it would have said ‘want’. watch some NCIS or ID discovery- it’s all simple logic.
One question?
Calling someone colored is racist?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? I mean hell the census has negro as am ethnic group and yes I know many blacks that identify as black or colored instead of the BS PC label of African American.
Secondly. more on topic the mother needs to face jail time, the child should be banned from High School football or forced to return to Lunenburg High.
While I don’t disagree that the mother should be prosecuted for this, the fact of the matter is that “colored” is not currently a socially acceptable term when referring to black folks.
TurtleBoy is correct. We have to wait until upper middle class entitled white people from liberal arts colleges who majored in sociology to tell us what people who aren’t white should be called at this point in history. Oh, and maybe Kanye West too, if he can stop talking about himself for a while.
Yeah I refuse to use the term African-American for someone who grew up in Detroit, Philadelphia, Mississippi, or Lunenburg. Black is a descriptive term when you are talking about what someone looks like. Works for me. Though I think we also need to take another look at what “racist” actually means. A person is racist if they believe their race is superior to another. A government is racist if it implements a policy that favors one race over another. That is it. Bigotry and insensitivity are different issues. They can be more serious than racism, or less serious, depending upon the circumstances.
This article is right on the money except for the fact that Isaac is portrayed as a victim when in fact HE is the one that does the bullying. There are many, many kids that can and will attest to that. Great article though, the truth needs to be exposed.
Turtleboy Sports generally tries to stay away from demonizing children. Commenters are free to do as they please though.
Lunenburg is racist.
Lunenburg is not racist— annonthony!!!
You are a clown!! Get a clue, jackass!!
She is guilty of perpetuating this hate crime- on her own house and to her own family!!! She is nothing but a bully and so isn’ the father- he is still trying to threaten and intimidate people in Lunenburg. Have the decency to put your tail between your legs and hide out at home- cuz that’s right no one likes you any longer and no one wants you here. Feel free to leave- we would all appreciate it. Isaac was a menace at school here- and will continue the same in Leominster. And what type of parents let their kid go on national TV -after they cry rascism and say “I don’t even look black”???? Hey Big Daddy and Spray Can Momma- what are you teaching him about his heritage? Everyone should teach their kids to be proud of where they came from and what color they are– you parents are the rascists here in this incident. Isaac. And what kind of interview was that the other night- you look pretty guilty with an attorney by your side- innocent people stand on their own two feet and proclaim their innocence!!!!!
This boy in now in a Leominster Jr Hs and is a nightmare. Constantly picking on younger kids. He’s pantsed kids, called them horrible names and many other things but yet he’s the victim.
I was in Isaac’s class at Lunenburg High School, and he did the same exact thing to every kid there. Even little things like taking chairs from underneath people, saying rude comments, and pushing people around, got tiring after awhile and we all got sick of it really fast. It’s not surprising he’s doing the same thing at Leominster.
Are you calling a half-black kid a troublemaker? Are you a racist? I think you are, Anonymous, if that is your real name.
I do not believe skin color has anything to do with intelligence, social skills,or discipline. Everyone has an opportunity to become something useful…..If they felt inferior no one can make you feel that way without your consent…As far as I am concerned..no one should be bothered by skin color…its their attitudes and reckless behavior that bothers me….I definitely think she is guilty…but whoa is me will get hers someday………Too bad for her son…who is really going to go through hell because of his mother….
