Like most of you, Turtleboy’s Facebook timeline has turned into “everyone share their thoughts on gun control,” power hour. Because I definitely want to know how every single person feels about gun control. And I’ve totally NEVER heard any of these arguments before, and they are NOT the exact same arguments everyone was using after the last mass shooting. Same time next month.

Well yesterday in a Marshfield community page someone posted this:

And as you can imagine, all hell broke loose.

Before we get started, here’s my unsolicited thoughts on the post:

• Obviously this was intentionally posted to show that despite school shootings, the vast majority of legal gun owners are law-abiding and responsible.
• He had to have known that it would get a rise out of people.
• There’s nothing wrong with that. If the instinct reaction from the anti-gun crowd is to vilify guns, then it’s OK for the pro-gun crowd to highlight the accomplishments of a 14 year old girl who shoots gun.
• Congrats to Eliza. Seems like quite the accomplishment. She should be proud, as should her parents.

Let’s check out the shitshow this harmless post created……

So you can post pro-gun things on community Facebook pages, just not after a shooting that happened 1,000 miles away. Duly noted.

Yes Alida, that’s exactly what his post intended to do. Show something “positive” about guns. Although there’s no need for the quotations. This is an actual positive thing. I know, I know – you’d prefer the narrative that all guns and gun owners are evil, and that guns have minds of their own and indiscriminately kill innocent people. But believe it or not, this happens all over the country and CNN just doesn’t have an interest in letting you know it exists.

It’s a happy 14 year old girl celebrating an accomplishment. Anyone who thinks this isn’t nice is probably wicked fun to hang out with at parties.

1. It doesn’t matter if it’s “insensitive.” That’s a subjective word that means absolutely nothing. It’s not the Internet’s job to protect your delicate sensitivity. That’s not why the Internet exists.
2. Anyone who looks at a picture of a smiling child and the first word that comes to mind is, “disgusting,” has severe mental issues and should probably see a doctor.
3. Yes, many families are indeed grieving. But guess what? None of them are a member of the Marshfield, MA Forum page. I know, you are desperate to find a way that this victimizes you. But you’re not a victim. You’re just using a tragedy to push your agenda and trying to silence those who disagree with you.

And if so, what’s the grace period for posting about student accomplishments at a shooting range after a mass shooting? Is it a week? A fortnight? A month? A year? Are there committees of SJWs who get together and decide these things? Asking for a friend.

But by far the two hangriest Internet butthurts were Julie Dudley O’Brien and Jill Cormier. You’re gonna love Julie and Jill.

They demand that he take the post down because “so many people are offended.”

Yea, because that’s the way freedom works ladies. If you decide you’re offended by something then it’s incumbent upon the OP to censor his speech in order to cater to what you have arbitrarily decided is offensive. There’s nothing dangerous about that line of thinking at all!!

And just so I have this straight…….

When one side uses dead children to promote a political agenda it’s good.

Turns out the answer was one month. I would’ve guessed a fortnight, but I underestimated just how long it takes to get over a mass shooting in which no one you know was killed or injured.

Honestly, these twatstains scare the shit out of me. Not necessarily because I’m a gun person (I’ve never owned or even touched a gun) but because they think they have the right to demand that other people take down their posts because of the reaction it’s caused. As if these people don’t have the right to, I dunno, NOT FOLLOW THE POST???!!!

This isn’t harmless thinking. It’s dangerous. The whole purpose of free speech is to protect speech that is controversial. Anyone can agree with non-controversial speech. That’s easy. These people should be called out and mocked, because they get away with pushing their Fascist agenda. Everyone’s afraid of them. Not us though. When you write bullshit on the Internet, we don’t cut you any slack.

Julie was also concerned that the parents didn’t make the post, the coach did:

I’d love to see her in the biathlon one day too Mom. You’re doing a great job raising your daughter. Please don’t listen to this mob of malcontents. They don’t really matter in the long run. Just keep your head up and keep doing what you’re doing.

The post has since been taken down by the OP, not an overzealous moderator, because he didn’t wanna deal with the mob anymore. This is why you should always screenshot stuff like this. Because it always comes down, but screenshots live forever.
