“I really don’t get the UConn thing.”
Saw this post on a friend’s Facebook today. Basically started a shitstorm of wicked smart comments like this:
“Ha, Massachusetts college sports teams are awesome, so u understand why u can’t comprehend. get on board though bro, team of destiny”
I could read that 50 times and each time it would make less and less sense. In other words, this genius is your typical UConn fan.
Make no doubt about it – if you live in Massachusetts, and you didn’t attend school at UConn, then you’re a fraud if you root for them. Rooting for a team in another state is the coward’s way out. Your hometown team represents you to everyone you will ever meet in an airport. It’s supposed to be part of what defines you as a sports fan. Sorry but rooting for UConn is just as bad as rooting for the Yankees. You are an ultimate traitor for only getting behind UMass when they get to the Final Four. That prompted our Rhodes Scholar from before to throw this one at me:
This day has nothing to do with umass, Lou roe and Marcus Camby aren’t there no more…..haven’t been relevant in a decade…….shut up
You know what sucks? I have no play right there. I mean, he’s obviously wrong that they haven’t been relevant in a decade. They did MAKE the tournament this year. But besides that we were EMASCULATED in the first round of the tournament. We were a higher seed than UConn. We lost by 20 to an 11 seed. They beat the A-10 Champs, followed by second seeded Villanova, Big 12 Champ Iowa, and Big 10 Champ Michigan State.
Why can’t we have nice things like that? Kick in the balls right there. I wanted MSU so badly there it hurt. Wasn’t meant to be though. What makes it worse is that Shabazz Napier is from Boston. Oh yea, and it basically ensured Kevin Ollie he can recruit much better players now. So the odds of four-star prospect Melvin Swift coming to Amherst just decreased dramatically.
So basically I need UConn to get destroyed by (gulp) Florida in the Final Four. I wish both teams could lose. Don’t wanna see Calipari’s teen All-Stars win again so soon either. How can you not go for Wisconsin? Anyone but them winning is a disaster. I could stomach Kentucky. I could live with Florida. But if UConn wins again it will completely hide everything UMass accomplished this season. It will be a sad, sad day for UMass fans everywhere.
The only question that remains is this: Will Billy Donovan be sending a prostitute to Shabazz Napier’s hotel room the night before their big game? Only time will tell.
TurtleBoy Sports – out.

I’m not sure why you all are arguing with Turtle. He isn’t a UMASS fan at all. He did a good job of sucking you all in, though.
I am so gay.
Ah yes, US News and World Reports… wonderful publication. The same one whose “Best Colleges” list somehow has not only UConn but BC ranked ahead of WPI… but I’m sure everything else about it is just awesome.
sorry you didn’t get in to Bc you should let it go at your age
I actually did, thank you… not that it was ever a consideration.

Maybe back in your day BC wasnt all its cracked up to be today. But the fact is BC accepts fewer than 30% of its applicants. Its lower end of the average SAT range is greater than UMass upper end. Your refusal to admit it’s a superior school to UMass academically is pathetic, desperate, ignorant and just plain sad. Who cares? BC is a better school than most places. Get over it you loser.
I know you are very impressed by rich kids paying a lot of money to take SAT prep classes and paying 60k a year to go to school, but I am not. We will not reconcile this. More Expensive does not equal better, especially when we are comparing a top 100 research institution to one that does very little, if any.
Who said anything about cost? Literally 0 need for you to throw that into the equation.
You sound like a 7 year old with these excuses. The admissions statistics are undeniable. If you truly dont believe that the average mind at a school like BC is superior to the average mind at UMass, youre a moron, and your blind biased defense and blatant disregard for unequivocable fact only furthers my argument.
Top 100 reasearch?!?! OOOOOOHHHHH!!! No one gives a shit about research at BC, they’re too busy going out and making bank the day after they graduate. UMass kids have to worry about studying for the civil exam
Hmm. Last I checked Calhoun is gone and.,,.theyre in the final four. Again. You speak of Calhouns arrival as if it were 5 years ago. UConn has been a powerhouse program for over 20 years now. They have 2 more elite 8 appearances than yoh have tourney appearances.
Also did yoh refer to UMass as a dynasty??? Lol last in checked 3 sweet 16 appearances isn’t a dynasty for anyone, ever. By the way, excellent argument about UConn being nothing before Calhoun came and cheated. Because we all know how relevant Umass was before and after Calipari, the biggest cheater in NCAA bball got there? Lol you’re an idiot if you actually thought you were going to burn me with that one.
That all doesn’t matter though because I never said I went to UConn. I only pointed out why residents of Mass don’t have to root against UConn, and again, that’s because when it comes to athletics UMass is totally and utterly irrelevant in comparison to the majority of large state schools. No one cares. Get over it.
us news uconn #57 45% acceptance
us news umass #91 63% acceptance
boom roatsed
Don’t even bother. These morons are so far gone they actually think umass is a good school. You know, because every good school lets in 80% of it’s applicants.
Then again, they went to UMass, so I guess I understand why they’d argue with reasonable logic and fact. Obviously if they went to UMass they’re not too bright.
Sorry 60% don’t want to leave my typo as a reason for the zoo boys to jump all over me. I know they would for that too, since it’s about the only argument they have.
You didn’t use uppercase letter when saying UMass once in your post. Way to go.
I also left out the “s” in “letters”. #Fail
No, because UMass is a total joke when compared to the majority of other state schools with D1 sports. UMass athletics are meangingless on a national scale when you consider that they are THE premeire public university for the great state of Mass. Sorry, but your school sucks and you’re completely irrelevant in the eyes of college sports fans. I heard someone say that they know where UMass was. Now granted, that makes the person who said that stupid- but it also just highligts how pathetic UMass is compared to the rest. If you dont believe me, I’ve provided examples of schools which are public universities whose athletic relevance dwarfs that of the Zoo you call your university.
See, Alabama & Auburn, Arkansas, Arizona & Arizona St, Cal, Fresno St & UCLA; Colordao, UConn, Florida & Florida St, Georgia & Georgia Tech, Boise St, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa & Iowa St, Kansas & Kansas St, Kentucky & Louisville, LSU, Maryland, Michigan and Michigan St, Minnesota, Ole Miss & Mississippi St, Missouri, Nebraska, UNC & NC State, South Carolina & Clemson, Ohio St & Cincinnati, Oklahoma & OK St, Oregon & Oregon St, Penn St, Tennessee & Memphis, Texas, Texas Tech & Texas A&M; Utah, Virginia, Virginia Tech & VCU, West Virginia, Washington & Washington St, Wisconsin. Argument also can me bade for Nevada, UNLV, and New Mexico)
You act like UConn is some sort of traditional powerhouse. Newsflash – until Calhoun came in and started cheating, your school was shit too. College dynasties come and go. UMass will be back when they get a real coach.
According to you, you are a traitor if you root for UCONN cuz they are from another state. Solution-you are rooting for FLORIDA.
Incorrect.
If you feel like a traitor, just bet on them and that will make it OK. As easy as UConn is to hate… at least they are still a state school. They aren’t BC or some overpriced hack school that was a total joke until it got more expensive. Bet on teams you hate, it makes their victories easier to swallow.
