Last year after the Hurricane in Puerto Rico tons of politicians virtue signaled and took shots at President Trump for not doing enough. A bunch of them went down to the island and pretended to care too. One of them was Melrose Representative Katherine Clark; a woman who went from this.
In just 2-3 years.
Here’s what she had to say.
What a nice lady! She fixed Puerto Rico!
Well, during the government shutdown about 30 democrats traveled to PR, except this time they were taking in the sites.
That’s New Jersey Senator Bob Menendez, and he and the 30 other congressmen and women who are currently there are visiting with a bunch of wealthy lobbyists and watching a showing of Hamilton.
Tangent – Hamilton is just a way for rich, white urban liberals to try to feel connected to people of color, because they think that listening to history in the form of rap music makes them woke. Tickets cost a billion dollars and the only people who can afford them are wealthy, connect, urban white people, none of whom are Trump supporters, because the cast itself lectured Mike Pence when he had the audacity to watch them.
Back to the story at hand though. Here’s what they’re doing down there…..
Some 30 Democratic lawmakers left the government shutdown behind Friday on a chartered flight to Puerto Rico for a winter retreat with 109 lobbyists and corporate executives during which they planned to see the hit Broadway show “Hamilton” and attend three parties including one with the show’s cast. Those attending the Congressional Hispanic Caucus BOLD PAC winter retreat in San Juan planned to meet with key officials to discuss the cleanup after Hurricane Maria at a roundtable Saturday.
But the weekend is packed with free time for the members and their families on the trip. Some 109 lobbyists and corporate executives are named in the memo, a rate of 3.6 lobbyists for every member. They include those from several big K Street firms, R.J. Reynolds, Facebook, Comcast, Amazon, PhRMA, Microsoft, Intel, Verizon, and unions such as the National Education Association. The event is taking place in a seaside resort where rooms go for $429 a night. Food is being provided.
We don’t like to get political around here, but this is hilarious. You cannot make this stuff up. Lobbyists from some of the most powerful companies in the world, including tobacco, social media, television, online sales, Big pharma, telephones, data, and even the teacher’s union, are basically bribing congressmen and women and their families with free resort trips during a government shutdown, under the guise of “checking up” on Puerto Rico. It’s one of the most mind boggling and openly corrupt things I’ve ever seen. It’s especially ironic because democrats are the party that allegedly wants to tax the rich more and go after big companies like this. Now here they are being whined and dined by them. Does anyone think Facebook will ever be regulated by the government so long as the democrats are in power? Not as long as the free trips to the Caribbean during a winter snowstorm in Washington keep coming.
Anyway, it’s supposed to be for the Latino caucus, and they haven’t made the list of who is there public because it’s really bad optics to be vacationing with a bunch of billionaire lobbyists during a government shut down. Then the governor of Puerto Rico tweeted this on January 12.
So there’s the 10 minute meeting they posed for a picture for so it would look like they were doing actual work to help out the people of Puerto Rico during the lobbyist funded vacation.
And unbeknownst to Representative Clark, the governor blew up her spot by tagging her in the picture.
Again, this was a lobbyist retreat for the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Keyword – Hispanic. Katherine Clark might be the whitest person in Congress. She’s so white even Steve King says she’s his favorite coworker.
But remember last time she was in Puerto Rico she had to let everyone know she was there.
This time she told no one, because she knows it’s wrong to be there. Especially when the federal government is shut down and you’re a rich white woman from Melrose.
Here’s the best part – she tweeted this yesterday.
My office received a call from a retired federal employee in #Natick. She lives in affordable housing and because of the #TrumpShutdown, she can't obtain a statement regarding her pension as proof of her income. Now her housing is in jeaopardy. This has to stop. #EndTheShutdown
— Katherine Clark (@RepKClark) January 15, 2019
- That never happened.
- The fact that Melrose and Natick are in the same congressional district is all the proof you need that gerrymandering works both ways.
- She literally just got back from a lobbyist funded vacation and now she’s pretending to care about people who are being negatively affected by the government shutdown that she could end up voting to put up a stupid wall that will have no effect on her life whatsoever.
You can’t make this stuff up people. This is a woman who immediately runs to Twitter to virtue signal when a disaster happens that she can blame on Trump. She was embarrassed to admit she was down there this time though, so there were no tweets from PR this time around. She tried being sneaky, and no one noticed she was down there. Except for Turtleboy, because we’re always watching.
I’d love to tweet this at her but we’re banned from Twitter, because unlike her they don’t pay for me to go to the Caribbean on free vacations. So all you Turtleboy people on Twitter make sure you tag @RepKClark when you tweet this link out. We’ll see if anyone else in the media bothers covering it.
