Pro-tip for all bus drivers out there – don’t get wasted and crash your bus into a pole, especially if you still have students inside the bus:

Dudley Police Facebook PageOn Thursday, February 11th at approximately 3:00 pm, Dudley Police Officers as well as Dudley Fire and Emergency Medical Personnel, responded to a School Bus crash in the area of #49 HaydenPond Rd.

Upon arrival, officers observed a School Bus in the eastboundtravel lane with wires from a utility pole lying across its roof. The bus was on its afternoon drop off route and there were 11 Shepherd Hill and Dudley Middle school students on board at the time. Officers, along with Fire and Medical Personnel, evaluated all parties involved. No one was injured.

During conversation and interaction with the bus driver, later identified as Scott Poirier age 42 of Mason Rd in Dudley, officers had suspicion the driver may be under the influence of alcohol. After field sobriety tests were conducted, the officers believed he was operating under the influence. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Dudley Police Department for booking.
Shortly after the accident, all students were transported home via a second bus. The bus is owned by First Student of Charlton, Ma. Mr. Poirier will be scheduled to appear at Dudley District Court on Friday, February 12th on charges of Operating under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and child endangerment while operating under the influence.
Power outages occurred in the area. National Grid officials responded to scene and are currently working to restore power.

I mean, we all saw this one coming right? If this guy was my bus driver I’d just kind of assume that it was only a matter of time until he came to work wasted and crashed the bus into a utility pole. It just so happens that the road he was driving on (Hayden Pond Rd) is probably the curviest in town. It’s hard enough to do it in a car…..sober. Never mind drunk in a school bus full of kids.

I know a lot of people are gonna freak out and say, “The poor children.” But if I was in high school and this happened to me, this would be the highlight of my educational career. Tomorrow is Friday and these 11 kids will be walking into Shepherd Hill and Dudley Middle School and they will be the ones with the most badass story ever told. They were on THE bus that crashed into a utility poll, smashed on top of someone’s car and caused major power outages for everyone in town. Kids who never gave them the time of day before will be sitting down next to them in the cafeteria, hoping to hear every juicy detail of the drunken bus driver.

Congrats kids, you are now officially Shepherd Hill and Dudley Middle School legends!! There’s a great episode of the The Office where Michael Scott gets back from New York where he just quit his job. Instead of telling the story he strings everyone along with mundane details, forcing them to listen to him for longer and thus increasing his self worth. Pam famously says to the camera, “He finally has a story everyone wants to hear… and he knows it.” That can be you tomorrow. You can be Michael Scott. You hold all the cards. Never forget that.

He was my bus driver in high school, was the nicest guy and never was disrespectful to anyone. Unfortunate that his life has come down to this. Hope he gets help.

I agree with concerned friend. I have known Scott since grade school and only see him once in a great while but to say i’m shocked by this is an understatement. I would never expect this to be in his nature. Granted this was a stupid move on epic proportions. Very dangerous! But Scotty is a big boy and he will take his punishment and hopefully get help.

I know Scott, or at least know the former Scott from early 2000’s. He was a great guy. He was very responsible and extremely kind. From what I remember of him, he would of never done something like this to put children in harms way. But with that being said, under these circumstances, something must of went downhill for him to drink then drive children home. This bothers me that he let it go this far. I do hope whatever he’s going through, he straightens his shit out, because he can’t be putting other people’s lives in danger.
