Something is wrong with this picture:

13199311_181509338910260_907082417_o

Back in my day the people with signs looked like they were about to die. This guy looks like he’s calling up his dealer. Not only does he own a cell phone, he also has enough cash to put minutes on it. And he’s hardly the only one. Take a ride down to Webster Square where Main Street meets Park Ave. There are 3-4 bums there at a time, and all of them are able bodied young men with cell phones.

This is what you are paying for when you give these idiots your money. We can’t stop Tracy Novick from suing the city, but we can publicly humiliate morons who give money to panhandlers. It has to end. They run into the street, creating hazardous driving conditions. They spend the money on drugs. And they wouldn’t do it if morons stopped giving them money. So if you are ever in a situation where you see someone holding up traffic to give them cell phone money, then please take a picture and send it to us. Public humiliation is the only thing that works.

Make Worcester great again.

    And they ALL smoke cigarettes at $11.00 a pack X 7 days = $77.00 a week X 52 = over $4000.00 a year
    WTF ???

Fact these dirty losers have divied up the most lucrative spots, aka: Vernon off ramp, Park/Chandler. Shift changes, pretty sophisticated stuff. Thank you not Mayor Petty and former school committee member tracy novick. Never give these losers a nickel.

I see the Belmont St. off ramp guy everyday. I so want to roll my window down and ask him if he can spot me $5 for gas.

To jay, I would like to inform you that not all individuals addicted to heroin are panhandlers, some very upper middle class kids can become addicted, ADDICTION IS A DISEASE. Maybe ignorant people like you should spend a day Voluntering in a shelter, maybe you may actually learn and be educated on this horrific disease.

    • Teddy
      May 9, 2016 at 6:18 pm

Cancer is a disease. Drug use is a choice. Get your head out of that 70’s bullshit.

      May 10, 2016 at 12:36 pm

Don’t you dare trot out the disease bullshit when it comes to the spoiled middle class kids wh are junkies. Yes, junkies.

They are addicted in part because mommy and daddy were too self absorbed to ever tell them no, and now society doesn’t have the balls to tell them that they’re as good as dead after the first time they do heroin.

Instead they hop on board the Narcan Express and magically get brought back to life several times with no excuses, no ramifications, and no judgement until one time when their ‘friends’ dump them out of the car on a side street because they want to save the Narcan for themselves.

      Think it’s bullshit? It’s fact.

Google search: Worcester, MA list of food pantries

Print out a list of food pantries and hand it to them.

There is a guy who sets up on the bridge over the Mass Pike at Kenmore Square in Boston on a Red Sox home game. He plays the drums on flipped over 5 gallon plastic buckets (like three or four) and he is awesome! You can hear him walking to Fenway Park from Kenmore Square and everybody is dancing on the bridge. So I put money in his money holder thing. That might make me an asshole and an enabler but at least we were be-bopping our way to the ball game. He wasn’t banging on car windshields and scaring the snots out of people.

    • Worc Taxpayer
      May 9, 2016 at 6:39 pm

At least he’s entertaining people and earning whatever people throw in his hat. These Worc Bums just stand there looking disgusting, smelling even worse while blocking traffic.

  • Jon
    May 9, 2016 at 2:52 pm

Why can’t Worcester have classy panhandlers? Like the one’s who play instruments and shower regularly… but no, if only Worcester could be so lucky.

I could care less what a street corner musician is spending his money on (as long as he’s good and doesn’t just play the same thing over and over again – and NO hippy guitar assholes either) if their actually “doing” something. Instead we have to have smelly, drug addicted, no-tooth hobos.

    Bullshit!

            May 9, 2016 at 9:24 pm

Oh because I used a swear word in conjunction with the word belligerent? Wow. Aren’t you so smart. Maybe you now can get a job and buy a car. That would an excellent start. Then after that your own place so you can finally move out of your parent’s basement. Oh and maybe a girlfriend? Nah, I’m just putting way too much on your loser plate. Sorry. Plus it’s obvious by now that you do not like girls anyway.

            May 10, 2016 at 12:14 pm

See, this is belligerent. Not because you’re swearing, but because you are literally losing your shit because I deigned to not find your unending commentary endearing.

Face it, you’re just mad because NOBODY gives a flying fuck about your long, drawn out bullshit with Feisty. It was tolerable at first, now it’s just tiring and obnoxious. And you’re lashing out at me because I’m the most recognizable regular commentor to dare to say something.

Honestly, this battle of wits is starting to bore me, because you’re hopelessly outgunned. At this point you can only use the “12 year old on XBOX Live” approach -say I live in my parent’s basement, that I don’t have a job, that I’m a loser.

Well, sorry, but I’m not Boo Shameek. I have a job, and I don’t own a car or drive by choice. I could do both if I had any desire to do so.

The only thing Bob hasn’t tried yet is calling me a fag. Give it a minute; he’ll get there.

          • BobnMic
            May 10, 2016 at 12:34 pm

Outgunned? So what – this issue has brought a few other asshats out as well. That is a good thing. This comment section needed a little cleansing anyway. Way too many libtards trolling on here that I and many others have no use for.

Oh and Wabbitt, I wasn’t going to bother you today at all. Once again you threw the first punch, again, and I told you that I double down on the responses. Once you learn this you’ll leave me and everybody else the fuck alone and mind you own fucking business. Why should you care who the hell I talk with on here? Freedom of speech ever hear of that? This is very SJW of you. Just scroll past it if you do not want to read. It’s that simple.

And no I’m not going to call you a fag. Your just an asshole that’s about it. And that is plenty enough.

Chance are, it’s a ” Obama Phone ” as it’s called. The beggars are a public safety issue to say the least. Would bet most are on gov. assistance of some type, SSDI, etc. Some even have jobs too. So many scams going on now, one can’t keep up anymore.

  • Non Sequitor
    May 9, 2016 at 1:56 pm

I very much doubt center divider begging is prohibited. The last 3 times I went past WPD HQ there was a bum/scam artist in the center at Belmont & Taylor.

For those that truly need help there are numerous programs available. But you have to want the help. And getting help doesn’t pay as well as being in a scam pool where you pool your profits.

Maybe turtle riders need to follow some of the bum pickup vans and see where they end up.

  • Concerned for Humanity
    May 9, 2016 at 12:42 pm

It’s Massachusetts. The reason we pay crazy high taxes are that people who need the help receive the help. The system is far from perfect but programs do exist. The people you see on the street, holding up signs, and creating the problem are the ones that are taking advantage an opportunity. The public conscience and the façade of people wanting to feel like they helped some less fortunate than they are. I feel like crap when I see someone like this and avoid them; then I remember that if true desperation were present help would be needed, true help would be sought. If we keep feeding the pigeons, we can’t blame them for always coming back.

    • Harvey Flanagan
      May 9, 2016 at 1:24 pm

I actually saw a pigeon a few years back with a McDonald’s bag a few yards away from a panhandler. I was like… wow, he’s a bird and he’s doing better than you. Of course he put in more effort.

  • Panhandler shaming isn't cool
    May 9, 2016 at 11:55 am

What these homeless people need is NOT humiliation, but compassion. Maybe they wouldn’t need to panhandle if they had more welfare benefits! So no I am not going to publicly shame the homeless!

    • Jay
      May 9, 2016 at 12:20 pm

You raise the welfare benefits, and their heroin tolerance increases so they need to buy more heroin. Then you’ll need to raise welfare again. Then again, if we give them enough so they’ll overdose, I suppose that would solve the problem too. Wow. You’re mean.

    • *snicker*
      May 9, 2016 at 1:43 pm

    • Myles Long
      May 9, 2016 at 5:58 pm

No. Every service under the sun is available to them. Except drugs and booze. They can get EVERYTHING except these 2 items, so THAT is what the panhandling is for. How would you feel if the money YOU gave tgem bought thier LAST fix? Could you live with killing a person?
You want to give, drive right down to St. Johns on Temple St. and donate to the food kitchen.

    • Worc Taxpayer
      May 9, 2016 at 6:34 pm

More welfare benefits!? Why are they getting any? I’ve seen some of these bums running back to their corner and they don’t look handicap to me. What they’re most likely getting is “crazy” checks.

  • BobnMic
    May 9, 2016 at 11:27 am

I still can’t believe they rescinded the city ordinance to curtail street hustling. It wasn’t even a total ban but just some adjustments for the safety of the public and the fucking bums themselves. If I remember correctly it was in part – no center island hustling and no walking up to cars in the street and knocking on widows. They were allowed to stand on a street corner or sidewalk only and people in cars had to approach them to give them their heroin money. I think I got that right. I may have missed a few other points.

So what the hell was so wrong with that city ordinance? Shit for brains Novick and company thought it was too mean and hurt the bum’s “feelings”and now the bums are back at it again running up to you screaming for money in the middle of fucking traffic. Nice. Real fucking nice. That ever happens to me I’ll run the fuckers over…

    • Asia
      May 9, 2016 at 6:12 pm

And NOW we have Councillor K. King proposal to bring the little leaguers back darting between cars. The city ordinance as it now stands is you have to be 18, stand on the island or sidewalk only and are limited by permit on how often your organization can do it. Except the cops ate unaware of said ordinance.

I was at the speedway on park ave, and I saw some loser like this. I guy walked by, then stopped and gave him some money after doubling back. The guy took the money, and lifted up his pant leg and took out some booze, then waked into the speedway and bought cigs. Needless to say I yelled at him. Fucking dirty losers, I have a in with the WPD, they say that all the homeless people have a sting and pool up money at the end of the day in a van that picks them up.

    • Jay

Don’t forget about the guy who stands on the 291 Ware/Framingham off ramp in front of the construction barriers. It’s already can be a tight squeeze without worrying about running over a junkie’s foot. Shook my head at him and he started swearing at me. Real charmer. Thanks for writing about these guys.

You mean we’ve got enough cash to put minutes on it? It’s a flip phone, so you could be right – maybe he’s throwing minutes on it, but it’s probably a LifeLine phone, paid for by everyone else through the “Universal Service Fee” that is tacked on to the bottom of your cell and land line phone bill every month.
