So around this time every year the Telegram and Gazette publishes the salaries of every public official and ranks them from highest to lowest. Basically the goal of this is to get people all fired up because they find out other people make more money than them. This of course leads to Dooshnozzle Mcgees whining about how they’re taxpayers and how much money they’re wasting and blah, blah, blah. That’s my favorite argument – the “I pay your salary” bullshit. Hey dipshit, you don’t pay cops and teacher’s salaries. Rich people do. Rich people fund most of the shit you see around you. They have a million times more money than you so they’re taxed at a much higher rate. At the end of the day they pay for everything and you toss in a couple bucks here and there. You’re really not that special and you don’t deserve to see how much money public servants are making.

Here’s my question for the Telegram – how much are you paying Clive McFarlane to publish race-baiting, predictable, copy and paste drivel twice a week? Seriously, what else does he do over there besides write two columns a week that revolve around the plight of the oppressed person of color at the hands of evil white teachers and police? What does he do when he’s not writing a 500 word column with no research? Remember when he said the average Massachusetts teacher made $91,500 a year? Then remember after we called him out about it and he wrote a retraction column about how he didn’t do any research about that number? If the logic behind publishing this list is that the taxpayers fund their salaries, shouldn’t they publish the salaries of all Telegram and Gazette employees so the idiots who still pay for a subscription can see where their money is going? I mean, I publish at least 2 or 3 blogs a day and they’re a million times better and more researched than this moron’s crap.

Newsflash – if you look at someone making $100,000 a year, and your first instinct is to say, “That’s no fair,” then you might as well pitch a tent and Occupy Wall Street because that’s your type of crowd. And if you look to someone earning $100,000 a year and think they’ve reached the promised land, then you’re a lowered expectations loser. Plain and simple. Turtleboy is a winner. When I look at this list I think, “Good for them. I have to figure out a way to get a piece of that action.” Because I’m a Patriots fan, which by definition makes me a winner. Whining about people who are more successful than you are is for Bills fans.

Oh yea, and the reason we have to pay salaries like this is because they have to be competitive or else no one will wanna work here. I noticed the Telegram didn’t report how much cops, teachers, and firefighters are making in Boston or other comparable northeastern cities. Because if you start paying your public servants half of what they could get in another city, you’re not gonna have very competent public servants.

So the problem isn’t necessarily what they’re making – it’s the job they’re doing that’s the problem. The Superintendent of schools SHOULD be making $194,000. But they also SHOULDN’T be holding closed door meetings about school safety. They City Manager SHOULD be making $215,000. But it also shouldn’t be a dope whose qualifications include going to the Boynton for wine spritzers with the City Council every Tuesday. The Worcester Public Schools Human Resources Officer, Stacy Luster, SHOULD be making $135,000 a year. Wait, no actually she’s the exception. You could literally find a teenage girl with good handwriting and a trapper keeper to do her job.

Then there’s idiots who say stuff like this:

Hey genius, in the private sector people with Master’s Degrees make a lot more money than teachers and cops make. That’s the whole point of working in the “private sector.” Anyone who is working in this magical “private sector” and can’t see themselves one day making more money than a cop is a chump.

The bottom line is that there’s no point in publishing these lists. I really don’t care if cops are making $130,000 grand a year. If they’re making an extra $40,000 for working details then good for them. That’s basically the same thing as a second job and Joe Schmo taxpayer isn’t funding it, so what do you care? Their union fought for that.

At the same time teachers unions need to stop being such little bitches and stand up for themselves. You all should be making as much as cops, but you do all this detail work for free. I hear from suburban teachers all the time about the batshit insane parents they have to deal with who are always demanding special meetings every time Johnny gets a C+ on a quiz. You wanna meet with the teacher on his or free free time? Cool. That’ll be $40 please. Market value for someone with a Master’s Degree. Stop giving these people all this free labor. Stop correcting stuff at home. Stop planning on your own time. Stop paying for things out of your own pocket. They don’t pay you more because they know you’re dumb nice enough to do this stuff for free. Do what you can while you’re on the clock, but if they want you to do work in your free time then you’re a sucker if you’re not getting paid for it.

Public sector employees are vastly over-compensated when you factor in the number of useless positions, the benefits, the salary and the pensions. For many of these jobs, if you cut the salary in half most still couldn’t leave for a better paying job, that’s the definition of overpaid. Worcester citizens are too stupid to do anything about it though and I luckily don’t live there anymore so I don’t need to deal with it.

Or private sector employees are getting screwed because so few of them are in unions. Take your choice.
