One of the things Kirk and Callahan were the best at at WEEI was raising money for the Jimmy Fund. The sports talk radio station dedicates two days a year to stop talking sports or whatever else is in the news in order to interview kids with cancer and get people to open up their checkbooks for this great foundation. Last year they raised $4.4 million.
But that’s when Kirk and Callahan were bringing a large audience to WEEI every morning because their show was so successful and entertaining. Then this guy showed up.
Bob Murchison, the millionaire activist from Sherborn who made his fortune by preying on dumb people during the housing crisis. Bob decided that he didn’t like the topics of discussion on a radio station he chose to listen to, and instead of just changing the channel he elected to begin a non-stop harassment campaign of WEEI’s advertisers until Entercom made the worst business decision ever and fired both Kirk and Callahan. Now Greg Hill is on that time slot, ratings have hit an all time low, and less people tuned in for this year’s Jimmy Fund. How much did they raise?
$3.4 million. By my calculations that’s about $1 million short of last year, all of which would’ve gone directly towards research to find a cure, and support for kids who are fighting for their lives. That’s the end result of this pathetic sack of human waste pile’s campaign for censorship.
For the record, I got all the information on Bob from cowardly Joe Zarbano, the program director at WEEI. He wanted to make it seem like I didn’t get this information and the emails Bob sent from him, so we talked on the phone and agreed that he would send me a message on Twitter, pleading with me not to publish Bob’s name, and then I’d publish it anyway.
Pathetic.
Of course he couldn’t do it alone without his ally at the Boston Globe.
Shirley Leung used her position at the Globe to not only demand that WEEI fire Kirk and Callahan, but then praised them when they decided to take Minihane off the air last November. She turned the Globe into a weapon she used to financially destroy the sports talk radio station by publicly shaming WEEI’s advertisers, and then called them up to harass them while coordinating with Bob Murchison.
I can’t even tell you how furious this makes me. Nothing tugs on the heartstrings more than kids with cancer. It’s so fucking cruel that any child would ever be forced to fight a battle like that when they should be enjoying their childhood. But they do, and more and more kids are winning that fight thanks to the Jimmy Fund. WEEI was a great instrument used to help these kids.
Kirk lost both his parents to cancer in a very short window as well.
Their ability to raise this much money was a direct result of the popularity of their show. Without listeners it’s hard to get donors. But because these two vile, disgusting, vapid pieces of donkey dick decided that they wanted a radio station to conform to their political talking points, the Jimmy Fund lost out on $1 million.

I hate to agree with the pretense of a relatively anger/frustration-based article, but it’s dead on. Hey WEEI….that dropped listener after the NEW morning show was brought in? It’s me, in spades, times thousands….. Can’t listen to man/woman ha-ha-ha all-sports-talk about little or nothing…it’s no way to run what used to be a great outlet that WAS relevant.

I don’t listen to WEEI anymore so I had no idea they were doing the marathon. I know they do it in August but because I listen, it wasn’t on my radar. I learned it was on when I tried to put the NESN simulcast of Felger and Mazz on. Hey Bob, step up and do the right thing and cut a check for 1 million dollars for the Jimmy Fund.
I was planning on pivoting the Minihane takedown to run for office at some point. That was my intention. Ive become so drunk from my financial standing that I found myself to be important. This self importance is what drove me to become an activist. I tried to read how people feel and what they connect with. 98.5 is only listenable from 2-6. If they have marshall hook or matt mccarthy then its off to howie carr or endure the brutal repetition of worn out “classic” rock songs from 2-3. I tune into the Koooooner man from 6-10, and the financial exchange from 10-12. 12-2 is potluck of shit most days. Sometimes i listen to jim and mush mouth for the entertainment value but i can only deal with jim’s cock hungry voice for so long. When its all said and done, weei is simply not an option with their current lineup.
