Here’s a video from Bristol-Plymouth Technical High School that once again proves that anti-bullying curriculums are a huge waste of time.
You know you’re at a tech school in Taunton when every kid in a bullying video is wearing Timberlands and/or flannel.
Don’t worry, I have no interest in finding out how old these kids are, because they’re obviously just being shithead kids. Don’t get me wrong, it’s heartbreaking to watch that much smaller kid get his glasses knocked off, and I hope the principal of this school immediately suspends the taller kid who assaulted him over something wicked serious like “talking shit.” But at the end of the day this goes on in schools all over the country, despite all the time wasted on anti-bullying curriculums. You cannot stop kids from being assholes, just like you can’t stop them from going to keg parties and giving handjobs. It’s in their DNA.
All you really need to know is that while the big kid assaulted the little kid another kid was filming it and a bunch of other kids walking with them did nothing. Not one kid had the decency to step in and say, “this is wrong.” But I guarantee all of them have had to sit through some motivational speaker who told them to stand up in situations like this. They never do, because that’s not how human nature works.
My problem is how my kid, who doesn’t involve herself in any of this, has to go to anti-bullying assemblies and miss math classes and other things that she could actually use to become a smarter person. Bullies will always exist, but it’s not an epidemic. It will never go away. Suspend them, send a message, and move on with the day, because what we’re doing right now clearly isn’t working.
