If we seem quite preoccupied with Franklin Baxley and the “Dog Park Diane” debacle lately, we are. Not only have we uncovered a ton of extremely disturbing evidence that suggests he is a violent and dangerous criminal, with tips still flooding in by the hour, but it served as a jarring reminder as to the nature of viral videos – they all too often show a small fraction of the true story, without any context, contrived to fit the narrative of the original poster.
We refused to peddle the baseless racial motivation that Franklin Baxley is pushing, because there was no evidence to suggest that her decision to call the police was racially motivated. We’re writers here, not mind readers. Every other corner of the internet, however, bought Baxley’s cries of racism hook, line, and sinker, because of course they did. It sells.
It’s our job as the media that covers these topics to dig deeper, and although we initially just saw this a ridiculous incident rife with humor and the prime opportunity to use a “Kavadawg” pun, the digging we did more than filled in the blanks. We exposed, and will continue to expose, Franklin Baxley as a dangerous and aggressive criminal who threatened the woman at the dog park prior to filming over a dispute stemming from his refusal to adhere to dog park rules, or control his animals as requested. Therefore, in addition to retracting and correcting the story, we reached out to several other news outlets to inform them of our findings, and suggest they follow suit, particularly because Grace Sandland (“Dog Park Diane”) has been the recipient of countless threats and harassment because she has been labeled a “racist”. To date, no one has replied, or cared to retract or correct the story.

Fuck you, you’re the Gaffney of “journalism”, WRKO. We got our story from Franklin Baxley too, and then circled back around with “real” “journalism”, when you track down not just the man involved, but his entire shitty criminal life.
Shame on you all. In the rush to garner page clicks you perpetuated a myth put out by a convicted criminal with open violent charges, and brought a mob down upon an innocent woman. You chose to propagate the stereotype of a vacant, petty, histrionic white woman vengefully forcing a black man from a public space, when the reality was the exact opposite. And when confronted with facts, you’d rather turn a blind eye and continue the narrative that you know sells, than to vindicate the women who now how to live with the fallout each day of their lives. You peddle in fake news, and you have no care or concern for the lives you affect while doing it. We’ve tried tirelessly for days to correct not only our own oversight, but the overall fallout as well. And that’s a mess this blog has no stake in – we never labeled this woman a racist. It would have been irresponsible to do so. But we’re just one voice in a sea of so many, and if we’re going to make this right, we can’t do it alone. The truth about Franklin Baxley, and conversely, about “Dog Park Diane”, needs to go national.
