A few months ago local pastor Aaron Payson was quite butthurt and caused a stir by writing an angry email after City Councilor Michael Gaffney “liked” a hilarious video on Turtleboy Sports:
The email referred to Gaffney’s “liking” of two posts on Facebook in September. The first, was a statement made about the ethnic makeup of Tatnuck Square, the second was a satirical video on the blog showing actors portraying Adolph Hitler and his inner circle, purportedly from a camera placed inside the election headquarters of Mayor Joseph Petty.
“It has come to my attention that through recent Facebook interactions, by ‘liking’ statements made … you have explicitly condoned sentiments that are at least extraordinarily offensive to many Worcester residents and for some, including me, constitute a form of hate speech,” Payson wrote.
This was the video in question. It’s a standard video in German, depicting Hitler yelling at his generals because he’s mad that they’re losing the war. It’s a very popular video that allows people to generate their own captions in order to satirize a topic. Everyone with a brain could figure that one out.
And obviously it is not anti-semitic or hate speech. We know this because the City of Northampton, which is probably the most progressive and politically correct municipality in Massachusetts, recently took that same video and generated their own captions, meant to satirize Northampton’s loss of business to places like Greenfield and Easthampton:
Uh-oh!!! Hope none of you hit the “like” button on MassLive’s posting about this, because the Reverend Aaron Payson is watching!!! The first thing he’s gonna do is write an angry email to the city of Northampton, telling them how upset he is that they are all a bunch of Jewish hating hippies.
Oh wait, he’s not gonna do that. Because he never actually gave a shit about this video and was never actually offended. He’s just a politician masquerading as a pastor and using his tax-exempt business try to influence a political outcome. And since the City of Northampton by and large aligns with his political persuasions, he won’t be making a peep about it.
Nevertheless, some of these were pretty funny:
“I’m moving to Holyoke.” Freaking priceless!!!
