Last year in the Worcester Public Schools there were a series of incidents involving guns, and even more incidents involving principals being punched in the face by students. More importantly it seemed that young people of color had lost faith that the police are there to protect and serve them. So what better solution to fix both of these problems than to put cops in schools in order to, a) help maintain order, and b) build positive relationships with students and the community? Cops were put into North High and according to former North High teacher Janice Harvey, things went great:
Just a reminder that Janice Harvey is basically as liberal as you get. So being pro-cops in school is hardly a political issue. It’s just a common sense thing that literally has no drawbacks, particularly in Worcester where school climate has dramatically improved because of the police presence.
But as you know, when a new policy is working well and improving the quality of life for normal, law abiding citizens, the ACLU has to oppose it because it is their job to stand up for the biggest scumbags society has to offer. Thus local slobs Chris Roberge (president of the ACLU) and Gordon Davis (mentally unstable man who carries around “end white supremacy signs) are petitioning the City Council to get cops out of the WPS:
A group of concerned parents and citizens is requesting the Worcester public schools and Police Department to allow it to review an updated memorandum of understanding that is currently under development. That group, led by Gordon T. Davis, is also circulating a petition to ban arrests on school grounds, except in emergency situations. It will be presented to the City Council and School Committee next month. As of Nov. 25, the group, under the umbrella organization the Massachusetts Human Rights Commission, had collected more than 100 signatures.
Alright, first of all, we have to stop taking Gordon Davis seriously:
He is a senile old man in a yellow raincoat and pink winter hat. He carries a megaphone wherever he goes and has 20 copies of the same sign ready to go in case someone steals the other 19 signs he wrote by hand with magic marker. He’s also a member of the “Progressive Labor Party,” (AKA the American Communist Party) which includes Gordy, his wife, and Nick “The Sunshine Kid” Choquette:
They lead a group of local morons who blockaded the City Hall garage a few months ago, not realizing that City Hall was not open that day:
So the first thing the City Council and SC should do is not take these idiots seriously. They are a joke who are here for our amusement. Nothing more, nothing less.
This is a shady way to try to get something passed with a lame duck school committee, and it should not even be voted on. Tracy Novick and Hilda Ramirez were just kicked off the SC by the people at the ballot boxes. Both were anti-police in schools. The people clearly spoke loudly – we overwhelmingly approve of a police presence in the schools. And now these two poopsmoochers are trying to undermine our election before Donna Colorio and Molly McCullough are sworn into the SC in January.
Secondly, students who commit crimes in school should be arrested. Our laws don’t magically end when you walk in the door of your high school. End of discussion.
Mr. Davis said concerns were heightened for his group regarding police presence in schools after a viral video circulated last month. That video showed a white South Carolina police officer flipping a 15-year-old black female student as she sat in her desk inside a classroom.
Gotta love hippie logic. A cop in South Carolina got rough with a defiant girl who was literally refusing to leave her class without force and caused a huge public disturbance in the process. Therefore every cop in Worcester is gonna do the same thing. But wait, we’ve already had cops in schools for almost a year now and nothing remotely close to this has happened yet. Stupid facts!!
Mr. Davis said he wants the public to have input on how officers will treat students on campus.
And by the public he means this guy:
Geriatric white men from Sutton who have no kids, never mind kids who are anywhere near school age. A man who is married to a radical activist who is openly racist towards white people. This is who Gordon Davis thinks should have an “input on how officers will treat students on campus.”
Chris Robarge, Central Massachusetts field coordinator for the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts, said his organization has found an increase in school officer presence leads to an increase in school arrests.
Yea, no shit sherlock. And that’s a good thing. Because the public was tired of seeing their children’s education being disrupted by out of control assholes who weren’t being properly disciplined by data-obsessed administrators who want to improve graduation and suspension rates.
Mr. Pezzella said his statistics point to a decrease in arrests, though Mr. Robarge questioned the data. A review of data from Worcester, Springfield and Boston in a 2012 ACLUM report showed arrests did not increase for crimes such as drug dealing and violent offenses but rather “disruption of school assembly,” with additional school resource officers on campus, Mr. Robarge said
This is Chris Roberge:
Why would ANYONE think that this slobby mess with no children should have ANY influence on public safety in our children’s schools? Plus, he’s citing a report from the ACLU!!!! Because that doesn’t sound completely biased or anything like that. Either way, “disruption of school assembly” can mean a million different things. If a kid is out of control and starts punching lockers after a teacher tries to discipline them, this would constitute “disruption of school assembly,” and the police officer needs to arrest that student. Because shit like this happens in public schools ALL THE TIME!!! If you were in a store and you started doing that and refused to leave, you’d be arrested. Once again, laws don’t magically end because you’re inside a school.
Of course he had to throw this in there too:
Mr. Robarge noted the 2012 ACLUM study found school arrests disproportionately affect students of color – based on data from the school years of 2007 to 2010 in Worcester, where 64 percent of the student population was non-white, 80 percent of those arrested were non-white.
Because the hippies never miss an opportunity to make it all about race. Ya see, these kids aren’t being arrested for being gigantic assholes, they’re being arrested because they’re black. Says so right here in my chart!!
The bottom line is that the students, staff, and parents OVERWHELMINGLY support the WPD being in the schools. There’s literally a handful of irrelevant but loud protesters that Joe Petty and company have caved to time and time again, who want the cops out. Every City Councilor and School Committee member with an ounce of integrity should stand up to this petition and let the hippies know that they stand with the students, police, teachers, and parents, and the hippies can go pound sand. Because this is what WE the people voted for in November, and they are supposed to represent us, not Gordon Davis and Chris Roberge.
