5 Nichols rugby players sentenced for Hazing

Five of the six Nichols College rugby players charged with hazing and supplying alcohol to underage freshmen this past fall have been sentenced to 11 months of probation and 25 hours of community service.

According to court records, two Nichols College rugby players were hospitalized Sept. 17 after six upperclassmen pressed the freshmen to consume large quantities of beer and rum during an off-campus initiation for “rookie” members of the team.

Michael J. Ricci, 21, of North Reading; Stephan J. Martucci, 24, of Guilford, Conn.; Patrick J. McStravock, 20, of Windham, N.H.; Remington M. Stone, 21, of Franklin; Nicholas Veseli, 22, of Stamford, Conn., and Sabelo Ndhlovu, 24, of 25 Tanyard Road, Dudley, were arraigned in Dudley District Court on Oct. 30.

The men were charged with procuring liquor for people younger than 21 and hazing after a court magistrate determined there was probable cause to pursue the case.

Court records for Mr. Ricci, Mr. Martucci, Mr. McStravock, Mr. Stone and Mr. Veseli state they admitted to sufficient facts for a guilty finding. Judge Timothy M. Bibaud sentenced the five men last week.

At the request of the prosecution, Judge Timothy M. Bibaud dismissed all charges against Mr. Ndhlovu.

According to a police report, just after 8 p.m. Sept. 17, a campus safety official called an ambulance for Kirby Jean-Louis, who was drunk and vomiting on the third floor of a dormitory.

After arriving, Dudley EMS personnel requested a second ambulance for Conor Leahy, who was found drunk on the first floor, police said.

A short time later, Nichols College Dean of Students Pamela Boggio reported to police she believed the two 19-year-old students had been given alcohol by upperclassmen living at “The Rugby House” at 25 Tanyard Road.

It was reported that Mr. Leahy told a doctor and officials he was forced by senior members of the team to drink shots of alcohol or he would be kicked off the team. He later told police he drank about 10 shots and five beers.

Dudley police officers reported that Mr. Stone told them the team had gone on a post-practice run that ended at 25 Tanyard Road, where they drank alcohol and Mr. Veseli said it was an initiation. The men denied forcing anyone to drink.

ALERT, ALERT!!! College freshmen drunk at Nichols College. Calling all cars, calling all cars!!!

This was the most deceiving headline I have ever seen. Giving freshmen beer now is hazing? When I saw the headline I clicked on it, thinking I would find some elaborate story about elephant walks or outright debauchery. Instead all I got was this:

“Two Nichols College rugby players were hospitalized Sept. 17 after six upperclassmen pressed the freshmen to consume large quantities of beer and rum during an off-campus initiation for “rookie” members of the team.”

Yea sorry, that’s not hazing. It might be illegal because the United States of America is the only country in the world where you can die for your country but you can’t drink a beer, but it’s certainly not hazing.

More importantly, this is the rugby team. If you’ve ever met anyone that played rugby then you’re probably asking yourself, “So, what’s the problem here?” That’s because joining the rugby team is more than just joining a sports club. Your’e purposely aligning yourself with semi-psychopathic men who all have facial hair and like to beat the shit out of each other on the weekends. And after that they get really, really drunk. Excessive drinking is a part of rugby culture. I don’t care what college you go to, the rugby house is the crazy party house. TurtleBoy Sports of course doesn’t condone this, nor does it condone procuring alcohol for minors, because we are a family blog. However, it seems like signing up for the rugby team and expecting not to get brought to the rugby house and forced to drink beer (gasp) is kind of a dumb move on your part.

Look, TurtleBoy has had the shit hazed out of him. Back in my frat days the hazing really, really sucked. If I knew what I was going into I wouldn’t have gone through with it. But that’s how they get you. At the beginning it’s awesome. They just take the pledges and put them in a small room with a 30 pack of warm Milwaukees Best Ice and a bottle of 99 bananas. They give you a trash can, play ACDC really loud, and tell you they’ll be back in an hour. Now when I was 18, this is what I called a great deal. Free booze. Granted it wasn’t my first choice of brand name, but it was free and in the end the mission was accomplished – getting wasted for free.

The kid who they found drunk on the floor – good luck to him when the season starts. You start your college career off by narcing on the seniors? Yea, that sounds like a good idea in a full contact sport with no pads. And about these seniors, why are they so old? Sabelo Ndvolu, age 24? I’ve never met or seen the guy, but based on his age, name, and sport of choice, I wouldn’t want to upset him very much. I imagine him having lots of chest hair and eating a mostly corn flakes in a bowl of vodka.

Last thing – Remington M. Stone might be the most dominant name I have ever heard in my life.

Feel free to share your thoughts to keep the conversation going.

Practice was at 3:30, didn’t get to their house till 4. people hung out till 5 then we went to dinner as a team. two classmates (non related to rugby at all) were at the house when the cops came and would have been witnesses if we proceeded. cops took false report from Conor , Kirby and the guys at the house. Cops entered the house with no warrant, warning, or anyone allowing them in. Conor and Kirby were claiming they violated their rights by taking police reports while heavily intoxicated. If they were so drunk they needed to be rushed to the hospital then how in their right mind is it ok to question them? Rem never spoke about the run, nick never mentioned anything about an initiation. those are the two false reported. We told the cops the about how because we are a club sport so we don’t get priority on field time compared to football, soccer and other varsity sports. So instead of no practice when we cant get field time, we go on team runs. we told the cops the practice had nothing to even do with it because you can catch us hanging out with the team post, pre or no practice. To this day we are all still friends and see each other every year at the alumni game. best part is lady that worked for the school lived down the street from the rugby house for years. she had a personal vendetta towards anyone who lived there so when all of us happened and she heard of it she called the cops from her house. how did we know? the cops literally said they got a call from a women down the street about a party. So when we found that out the school pulled out completely. They tried to do their own “investigation” but failed when they found out that we knew why the cops were called. the school was trying to tell us the doctors called at first but then we knew the lady down the street did. We even had professors telling us they knew she called the cops. we ended up losing our fall season and the guys did community service at the boys and girls club. Came back in the spring and went 5-0!

You really make it seem really easy along with your presentation but I in finding
this topic to be really one thing that I think I would
by no means understand. It kind of feels too complicated
and extremely wide for me. I am looking forward in your subsequent put up, I will try to get the grasp
    of it!

Be aware of your motives as you respect your partner’s privacy:
” That ex boyfriend conversation seemed lengthier than usual. All without resorting to outdated Do’s and Don’t that may not seem like something yyou know a lot about our subconscious mind. Your whole life is ahead of you and your parttner are to decide what you want and to meet who you want, when you are walking in the Light of Christ.

How about 7 kids saying “no I don’t want to drink and the seniors saying “ok fine” or the kid who got sick going back to the cops and saying “I did that on my own you interviewed me when I was drunk” (more like interrogated).

    Sound the alarm !

Drinking age should be 21. If you join military you can drink at 18.
