A Massachusetts woman hailed a taxi from JFK Airport all the way back to her Framingham home — but refused to pay the $980 fare when they arrived.
Denise Rebelato, 31, was charged with larceny after she told the driver Adnan Chaudhry she couldn’t afford the exorbitant trip. Rebelato had ducked into her Wilson Dr. home for 10 minutes to scrounge for cash or a valid credit card, but returned empty handed, cops said.
Rebelato told Framingham Police she had just returned from Brazil and was having a “real tough time.”
A Greyhound trip from Manhattan to Framingham, Mass. costs $42.95, according to the charter bus company’s website.
“From New York? From New York, you said? That’s how much it costs?” bewildered judge Robert Greco said during Rebelato’s arraignment, according to The Metro West Daily News. “They have buses.”
Rebelato could not be immediately reached for comment on Friday.
Is this the greatest power move of all time? I mean, she was in a cab for four hours. Pretended to care about whatever they were talking about knowing full well she was just going to dick him over in the end. Simply a dominant performance. Boston 1, New York 0.
A lot of people think she should be punished for this. I say no. Look, if you’re a New York cab driver and you’re dumb enough to drive eight hours round trip for ONE person without seeing the money up front, then you kind of brought this on yourself. Most likely what we have here is a cab driver who thought for sure he was getting lucky. Four or five hours is generally the most men will drive for a little sweetness. Didn’t work out for him and he went home alone and broke. Happens to guys all the time. Who hasn’t picked a woman up, taken her wherever she wanted, watched her rack up a huge bill, and then assumed you would pay while getting nothing in return? It’s all part of the game and the cabbie should’ve learned a valuable lesson here.
