We haven’t written about the Cape Cod town of Harwich since this lady read an entire Turtleboy article out loud at a Board of Selectman meeting:
But that’s about to change now that a lot of people down the Cape are talking about this letter to the editor from some white lady entitled, “Hate comes to Harwich”:
It’s taken me a week to write this letter because I wanted to be very clear about the facts. My husband and I live year round in Harwich, and delight in having our children and grandchildren come to visit, as so many of us do. I want to tell you about an ugly incident that happened to us at the lakeside beach on Cahoon Road off Route 137 on June 26th.
So it took her over a week to write this letter, and several days before it was published. Here’s what the weather was like in Harwich on June 26th:
Yea, doesn’t exactly sound like beach weather. Keep going.
To set the scene let me introduce the cast of characters. There are myself and my husband, typical grey-haired retirees; my son, daughter-in-law, and toddler daughter (all white); my daughter, her Guyanese American husband, (brown), and their two teenage daughters, (tan, and light brown respectively). We set our chairs up in the shade about 50 feet from the lakeshore, and my husband, myself, the baby and her parents, went down to the water. My daughter and family were chatting quietly in the shade. Also on the beach near us, a Latina woman and her two small boys, not related, but also brown.
Stop right there. I already know what’s gonna happen. The second a white person announces that they have an in-law who isn’t a white, and are associating with people who are “brown,” you just know a hate crime is about to go down. It’s white SJW 101.
An elderly lady and her husband, who wore a red Trump hat, sat about 25 feet behind us.
Here we go……
This elderly lady came up to my 16 year old granddaughter and said she was angry that she sat in front of her, albeit 25 feet away. My son-in-law politely apologized and offered to have his daughter move. The woman did not think this was acceptable. This woman said, and I quote my daughter, “I don’t know how they do things where you come from, but we don’t do that here”.
A Trump voter telling the black and brown people to go back to where they came from? What a twist!!
My son-in-law again offered to have his daughter move, but the woman just repeated her comment. My daughter asked her what she meant by this, and told her if she didn’t want the girl to move than to leave them alone, and to stop making racist remarks. We had come up from the water by now to find our daughter in tears but reluctant to tell us the reason.
Imaginary white woman tears. So delicious.
A few days later my daughter wrote about the incident on Facebook. I shared it with my Facebook friends. I immediately had offers of a posse to go down to the beach and tell these folks a thing or two. And the point is, these loyal supporters include two Episcopal priests, a Catholic priest, and people of Protestant, Jewish, Catholic, and Buddhist persuasions.
So this lady posts about an unconfirmed anecdote involving an imaginary racist Trump supporter at the beach, and immediately she has a “posse” of multi-cultural priests, Buddhist monks, and rabbis ready to go down to the beach with torches and pitchforks. Don’t fuck with this chick unless you want the clergy mafia to break your kneecaps.
This is what I know about Harwich. This welcoming, diverse town is where I live. Now I don’t know if these Trump hat wearing people lived here, were summer visitors, rented, or what. But I do know what proud, patriotic, generous and compassionate people my daughter and her family are. They are known among their friends and ours for charities they support, the people they help, the kindness they show.
Oh yes, when I think of Harwich the first thing that comes to mind is, “diversity”:
Now we all know how Cape businesses depend on this image of small-town, old-fashioned, American fun during the summer. This is a place where people bring their kids to make family memories, as my husband and I did years ago. This is a place where restaurants, ice cream parlors, hometown baseball games, beaches and boat rides thrive because people, all kinds of people, feel welcome and at home here. But the newspapers back in May were full of stories about how these businesses were impacted by the loss of seasonal workers, some who had been coming for years, who all of a sudden couldn’t get visas. There are dozens of summer jobs going unfulfilled and this translates to the bottom line of someone who lives and works here.
Stupid immigration ban!!! Oh wait, that never actually came to fruition because a series of judges said it was unconstitutional. So yea, this never actually happened.
But let’s suppose she is right. Let’s imagine that Cape Cod businesses can’t find enough help this summer because ICE is scaring away illegal immigrants from working. What kind of business model depends on illegal immigration in order to operate? A shitty one if you ask me.
The cover of this week’s New Yorker magazine depicts a young black woman in a blue bathing suit covered in white stars holding a red and white striped beach ball. Now which image do you want for Harwich? This one? Or a guy in a Trump hat ready to decide who gets to be on the beach and who doesn’t? Let’s keep hatred out of Harwich and off the Cape.
This is Marilyn Schlansky:
If you looked up social justice warrior in the dictionary, you’d see her face. She is just the latest in a long line of white people who has wanted to play the race card for years, but has been unable to due to the color of her skin. So she waited until her daughter married a black guy, bided her time until they actually visited her in Harwich, concocted the most stereotypical tall tale she could about racist Trump supporters, and found a way to victimize herself and her family.
Anyway, I’m sure the story happened exactly as she said it did. After all, Marilyn Schlansky even said in the comments that she’s not some biased liberal:
Does this look like a woman who is “not necessarily a Trump hating liberal” who desperately wanted to see a 60’s feminist woman elected President before she died?
Everyone knows that unbiased non-liberal women like Michael Moore and multiple Hillary Clinton pages on Facebook:
And lots of unbiased non-liberal women also join groups like “The Political resistance against Donald Trump” and “Cape Cod Against Trump”:
Yup, her credibility checks out!!
Funny that she’s so offended by racial stereotypes though. Especially since she finds humor in calling Provincetown “Gaycationland,” Harwich “White Florida,” and New Bedford and Fall River as “West Portugal.”
Oh right. Racial stereotypes are only funny when someone who isn’t wearing a MAGA hat repeats them.
And just like most unconfirmed anecdotes involving imaginary racist people with MAGA hats, white folk down the cape are eating it up like hot cakes:
Here’s my question – is there anything Capecodtoday.com won’t publish? Can I send them a story about Elizabeth Warren molesting me behind a dumpster and have them hide behind the “it’s just a letter to the editor” alibi?
Probably not. But they printed this one because it fits their MSM agenda. At the end of the day this is just an old, white liberal woman with too much time on her hands, who can’t get over the fact that Hillary will never, ever be President. Ever.
