Everyone has been talking about the shooting of a black guy in Florida named Charles Kinsey, who was shot in a bizarre situation in which he had his hands up, was lying on the ground, and was attempting to help the autistic man under his care. Here’s what happened:
Florida police union chief says the officer who shot and wounded a behavioral therapist trying to retrieve an autistic patient who had wandered into the street, shot the wrong person. According to Time, the officer was aiming at the patient, whom the officer thought was a threat, but who missed and shot Charles Kinsey. The officer involved in the incident Monday in North Miami, Fla., has not yet been named.
Officials say police were responding to a call Monday about an armed man threatening to kill himself when they found Charles Kinsey and another man sitting in the street. Officers said they did not know the man was Kinsey’s patient who had wandered out of a mental-health facility, John Rivera, president of the Police Benevolent Association in Dade County, Fla., said. Rivera said the officers also did not know that the patient was playing with a toy truck, and mistook the toy for a gun.
Yea, Turtleboy is pro-police and all, but not when it’s ridiculous like this. You can’t be shooting people in the middle of the street in broad daylight who clearly aren’t a threat. And if your lack of awareness and common sense means you can’t figure out the difference between an autistic guy with a toy truck sitting in the middle of the road, and a dangerous criminal with a loaded weapon, then you should probably be setting pins at the bowling alley. Being a cop is a privilege and an honor. No morons allowed.
Oh yea, and then there’s this part:
Rivera’s statement seems to contradict video of the incident in which Kinsey can be heard identifying himself and his patient and saying his patient was holding a toy.
Oops!!! Yea, even Turtleboy heard that when he watched the tape. That’s what made it such a bizarre video. Probably should listen to the guy with his hands up before shooting at him. Just sayin.
“When I went to the ground, I’m going to the ground just like this here, with my hands up,” Kinsey said Wednesday while recovering in a hospital from his ordeal. “And I am laying down here just like this, and I’m telling them again, ‘Sir, there is no need for firearms. I’m unarmed, he’s an autistic guy. He got a toy truck in his hand.’”
However, at a news conference, police union chief Rivera said: “It appeared to the officers that the white male was trying to do harm to Mr. Kinsey. In fearing for Mr. Kinsey’s life, the officer discharged his firearm trying to save Mr. Kinsey’s life and he missed.”
Wait…..what? They’ve had 24 hours to come up with a story and this was the best thing they could come up with? He didn’t mean to shoot the unarmed black guy. He’s just terrible at shooting at immobile objects from a short distance. Well, that’s good.
The officer involved has since been placed on administrative leave, but issued a statement through the police chief Thursday saying, “I took this job to save lives and help people. … I did what I had to do in a split second to accomplish that and hate to hear others paint me as something I am not.”
Why is this idiot issuing statements? You don’t get to play the “I was just trying to save lives” card when you shot at an autistic guy and hit the unarmed guy with his hands up while you were comfortably shielded behind a cruiser.
Look, I know the morons have already jumped on this as yet another case of racist cops shooting an unarmed black man. But that’s clearly not what happened. This was a case of an incompetent cop trying to shoot an unarmed white autistic man, and accidentally hitting an unarmed black guy in the process. This isn’t a police problem, it’s a Florida problem. Because Florida is a cesspool of debauchery. It’s the only place in America where 12 people can reach the conclusion that Casey Anthony didn’t kill her daughter. The only reason it’s even a state is because Americans don’t wanna get a passport to go to Disney World. That’s a fact.
