Apparently there is a City of Worcester employee who went buck wild on some West Tatnuck folks playing with their dogs “illegally” in Boynton Park. We found this post on the Preserve Our Woods: Save Newton Hill Facebook page:

On Saturday, July 4th, some unidentified folks at Boynton Park decided to “blockade” the vehicle access entrance used by the parks security staff member in his recent efforts to prevent dog owners and their pets from utilizing the field at Boynton Park. They did so by chaining the entrance and using both a decent sized boulder and part of a rotten log as additional security measures in the process.

He did not appreciate their efforts. According to eyewitnesses, this afternoon on his daily visit to kick the “miscreants” out, the parks security agent chose to drive through the chain, over the boulder, and drag the log onto the field at a fairly high rate of speed. This resulted in approximately 15 dogs chasing the vehicle, and approximately 15 owners chasing their dogs, while the staff member repeatedly drove in circles yelling about “Cascade West Siders.” He then reportedly drove back out exactly the same way he had come in: through the chain, over the boulder, and with bits of the log impaled in the truck’s grille.

An individual on scene approached the agent, who was still in his vehicle, in an attempt to calm the situation. He was reportedly hit in the hand as the staff member refused to stop or slow his vehicle in his flight from the park. Both an ambulance and the fire department arrived on the scene, as did Councilor Rosen and Councilor Palmieri. The City Manager, who is away on vacation, was also contacted by telephone. The individual is reportedly unhurt.

In an email I received tonight, District 5 City Councilor Gary Rosen wrote:

“Folks,

After the nasty, reckless and out-of-control actions of a parks security guard at Boynton Park this morning, I am told by the City Manager’s office and the Commissioner of Public Works and Parks that this employee has been terminated.

Also, I have been told that enforcement of the 1997 ordinance banning dogs from public parks has been suspended (at least at Boynton Park). The City Manager, who is away from the City, will review and discuss this issue upon his return.

Councilor Palmieri and I will continue to monitor the situation.

Please feel free to forward this email to other dog owners who appreciate the beauty and utility of Boynton Park.”

Alright, first of all, this park ranger is obviously insane. But I’m gonna be honest with you, I’d be pretty fucking pissed too. I mean, regardless of whether or not you agree with this ordinance, you conspired to block access to a public park with an illegal barricade. How did you think that was going to end?

Plus, it’s the 4th of July. This guy was probably dealing with morons all day. Then he goes to the nice part of town and he has to deal with West Siders and Paxtonians who impeded his ability to do his job with a Goddamn boulder and rotten logs. This was bound to happen.

But obviously there’s no excuse for his madness. We’ve all been pissed off at work before brotha. Try lifeguarding at Crompton Park for an hour. Let me know how that goes. Just focus on the fact that you’re getting paid no matter how hard you work and don’t let it bother you so much. If the West Tatnuckers were doing something illegal, then you call the cops and let them deal with it. They don’t pay you enough to care as much as you apparently do.

With that said, this ordinance is stupid. Look, dogs have to smash somewhere. That’s a fact. And if you step in dog shit, well, shit happens. Get over it. It all becomes part of the earth in a matter of days anyway.

Would you rather dogs poop on your front lawn, or in a designated park? Because honestly, it makes me cringe when I have to watch poor bastards sit there and clean up their dog’s shit when they take them for a walk.

That’s not how dog shit worked back in the 90’s. Your dog shit on the part of the grass between the sidewalk and the street. That’s why that strip of grass exists. But your dog shouldn’t shit on someone’s front lawn. I don’t know when exactly it happened, but the fact that people now have to sit there and catch their dog’s shit, or sweep it into a bag, is so demeaning that it’s un-American.

So the simple solution of course is a dog park like Boynton Park. If you’re a single guy or gal with a dog, it seems like a great way to pick up chicks or meatsticks, while you watch your dogs replenish the soil. But of course Joe Petty seems to be asleep at the wheel for this very, very simple issue. Our solution? Elect Mike Gaffney mayor and we won’t have any more dog shit fights at the Cascades. Boom. Problem solved.

As a kid I spent a lot of time exploring the trails that lead from Olean St all the way up to Boynton Park. I remember the vicious, aggressive, torturous hoard of biting insects up there. Boynton Park is skeeter alley this time of year. And it gets better. Deer flies arrive later this month, followed by horse flies big enough to carry off a pug. If residents and their dogs want to feed these bugs, I say let them.

As for the psycho, some folks just aren’t cut out for any modicum of authority. This city employee pulled a Private Pyle out there. Bet he even had the same expression. R. Lee Ermey should ask if his parents had any children that lived.

That’s what this situation needs. Someone blow the dust off Ermey. He’s been unemployed for a few years. Prop his old hide up at the entrance to the park. Have him insult all who show up. Problem solved.

No one ever spit at a ranger….that is a bold faced lie. And as to the barricade you all keep talking about, the chain is from the city used specifically to keep vehicles off the field. The ranger could have just got out of his car and unhooked it. There are 2 rangers who come up to the park. The nice one (Vinny) comes up walks on to field and talks to us and then leaves. But the other guy (Alain)a total wacko. He seems to be on some sort of power trip as he harassed the women up there much more than the men. Numerous complaint were filed with the city parks dept. about him. The incident should never have happened but all the calls and email to the city on this 1 guy were ignored till it boiled over on Sunday. It happened on Sunday the 5th at 10am while we sitting enjoying our coffees and and good conversation.

I’m all for the city having designated dog parks, but until they do, what in the world makes anyone think they have the right to block security from accessing it when they know they’re breaking the law? Everyone is so fucking entitled these days.

(Obviously the employee in question is also whackadoodledoo, and perhaps could use a little time with one of those mental health therapy dogs…)

Did u know that one of these “docile” dog owners spit in this rangers face?
And some of these idiots release their dogs on mower st and let them run to the park while people are walking, sometimes with small dogs..and the larger dogs frighten them?
Never mind that this poop all feeds into the Worcester water system via the cascades…

Let your dog crap in your own yard. There is no need to decorate a public park with dog defecation. it is inconsiderate to the highest order. People can’t smoke in public parks but leaving feces everywhere is coll??!!

If you don’t have space for a doc to do its doodies, you shouldn’t have a dog. Its animal cruelty. It is not being a dog lover.

When was the last time you went up to Boynton park?

We like dogs, but we traveled a lot and really didn’ t have the lifestyle or space for a dog so we never got one. We felt it would be unfair to the dog and inconsiderate to my neighbors. That being said they zero f*cks about their dog shitting in my yard, in front of our house on the sidewalk and they NEVER pick it up.

If you have a dog, keep a couple plastic grocery bags, bend your lazy ass over, pick up your dog’s shit and throw it out at home. Why should I have to get dog shit on me or the kids at the park because you’re inconsiderate?

The dog owners at the park didn’t block off the whole entrance to a public park, they block off the area where you enter the field. No cars should be on the field anyways. The ranger could have just driven up parked in the lot and walked in to the field to talk to the people.

There were more incidents than just this. The ranger nearly ran over dogs numerous times. He was reckless and impulsive. He would come by yelling and swearing at people. The entrance was indeed blocked off but only to the dog field. NOT the whole park as some people thought. And the entrance is honestly just a clearance between a few trees. And again, it was only blocked off because he had almost ran over dogs numerous times. And I believe their should be a dog park. Most people don’t know that a dogs skin an be burned off on hot pavement. I have seen the damages hot pavement can do to a dogs feet at a pet hospital. In a city like Worcester where it is almost all concrete and pavement, there needs to be a safe place for dog owners to bring their dogs. And for the people worried about the dog shit, there are clean up stations. In all my times going to Boynton I have never once stepped in dog shit.

Agreed! That “public park” has been exclusively used as a dog park for several years because it had not been used but people for several years. The people who go there only go to use the dog park or walk the trails. They have developed a community there and love that park. For the most part they keep it clean and take pride in it. The city should throw up a fence and make the entrance a bit easier to get into. And everyone will be happy. The only one who cares about this was the nut who would go bother then and threaten to call animal control while trying to run over their dogs.

“Agreed! That “public park” has been exclusively used as a dog park for several years because it had not been used but people for several years”.

People don’t use it because of all the piles of dogshit lying around.

So he’s warned you before and you think none of this is your fault for repeatedly breaking the rules? He got what he deserved but I’m pretty happy you got yours as well.

Block access on a State level and they lock yo ass up! As far as the dogshit goes… Who gives a shit?

I would be pretty fucking stupid too – to assume without seeing for myself that to ‘block access to a public park with an illegal barricade.’ is the same as blocking access by a crazy lazy city employee to a baseball field where families with children and their dogs are at play. – Public Access to the park as a whole was never blocked DUH!!!

If my dog shits in the woods up there, you cover it up with leaves and move on.

Put it this way. Would you care if a person walking by decided to stop and take a shit in your yard? And leave it ?
Shit in your own yard. Not in a public area.

No, that was a real answer. Unless you can describe the difference between human and canine shit laying on someone’s lawn all day. In the hot sun. Show us your lawn and i’ll show you a group of kids that would laugh their ass off taking a shit there. Then make a Vine out of it. Time. 6 seconds.

Yeah, I was trying to make a “I need to know if people would have a problem with someone shitting on their lawn because I’m about to do it” joke but it was shitty.

I appreciate everyone who picks up after their dog. Rather not mow over crap when cutting that strip. Even folks on the west side can be inconsiderate.

I love dogs of all sizes and shapes and even dogs with “difficult” temperaments. When our kids we little we rescued a dog and she was absolutely wonderful. I knew my kids were safe when she was around. People who knew our dog before we got her were amazed at the change in her personality as part of our family.

But…times have changed (and the kids grew up). These days I would only have a dog if I had two acres of fenced-in land where the dog could run free and not bother anyone else.
