Item Live: The principal of Stanley Elementary School is on a temporary leave of absence following the announcement earlier this month that they’re transgender. Principal Shannon Daniels, 52, formerly Tom Daniels, announced three weeks ago that they’re transgender and would be presenting as female going forward. Daniels, a Swampscott resident, who became the school’s principal in 2012, identifies as both male and female and prefers “they/them” pronouns for a gender-fluid identity, but plans to become fully transitioned to female.
“Principal Daniels is on a temporary leave of absence,” wrote Superintendent Pamela Angelakis and Swampscott Police Chief Ronald Madigan in a correspondence to Stanley families. The email was shared with The Item by a Swampscott resident who wishes to remain anonymous. There is also a police presence at the school this week.
According to the superintendent’s office, Daniels was not at school on Monday and will not be at Stanley Tuesday. The principal will be in on Wednesday to meet with Angelakis. The circumstances regarding the leave or its length was not clarified, but the superintendent’s office stated the leave was not a suspension and Daniels is off for a couple of days. Daniels said they couldn’t comment.
“You will also see a police presence,” Angelakis and Madigan wrote in the correspondence. “While no credible threats have been received, we see this response as an abundance of caution for our school community. We look forward to getting back to normal.
Madigan said there have been phone calls, voicemails and emails at the school since the principal’s earlier announcement, but there was nothing that police felt rose to the level of constituting a threat.

This is a joke. This is all a big joke. And the principal has proven that he is not only mentally unbalanced, but is also turning his place of work into a media circus. He did this because he made it all about him. From the beginning this was just attention seeking narcissism from a principal who decided to put his own interests above those of the students he was tasked to care for. He could’ve “transitioned” in the summer so people had time to adjust, but instead he decided to do it during the middle of the school year.
Here’s what he told the media three weeks ago:
“Say I’m wearing pink pants and a student asks why. I’ll say, ‘I love pink. It’s pretty.’ If they say, ‘It’s a girl’s color,’ I’ll say, ‘There are no girls’ colors or boys’ colors.’ If they ask, ‘Are you a boy or a girl?,’ I’ll say, ‘I’m a little bit of both and I’m moving toward becoming more female.'”
Oh yea, nothing confusing about that. Let’s just push our left wing agenda on five year olds. This is why public schools exist.
Does this sound like someone who is NOT mentally ill?
By making the connection to her feminine side, Daniels said she can more easily access qualities such as playfulness and empathy and make her a more sensitive and effective leader.
“I feel like a woman,” she said. “I love little children. I love to sing and dance and take care of people – things that are stereotypically female.”
Da fuq? So he’s a man sometimes and a woman other times depending on his moods and whether or not her’s shaved? And women are the only gender capable of empathy? Did he really just say that? He “loves little children”? Yea, that’s not wicked creepy or anything. And apparently only women are capable of “loving little children.”
He likes to “sing and dance?” A grown ass man in charge of a school said that. Is this an episode of Barney and Friends or a public school principal? This is a joke. A big fucking joke.
They had a meeting about this with parents a couple weeks ago that turned into a circus as well:
Two uniformed police officers stood guard at the meeting. And though the session was being videotaped for parents who couldn’t be there, the superintendent assured parents that their faces would be blurred on the video so they could not be identified. The meeting was attended by a Globe reporter who learned of it from Daniels.
Oh yea, what better way to let parents know they are free to express their concerns than by inviting the Boston Globe to the meeting. This is totally not attention seeking behavior on the principal’s part.

This is fucking insanity people. The reporter, who obviously has a political agenda of her own, defied the rules of grammar to show how progressive she is. “They’re transgender?” Who is they? They means more than one person. They are transgender means more than one person is transgender. This is how the English language works.
Sorry folks, I will never, ever, ever accept this as normal. Ever. You can pat yourself on the back for being so open minded that you’re willing to humor the delusions of this clearly sick and mentally ill man in this 50’s. But I’m not. Mental health is a crisis in this country. And instead of getting these people help we humor them. We tell them that we’ll call a singular man, “they,” simply because that’s what he demands.
When this first happened the virtue signalers from Swampscott were out in full force, lambasting anyone who had a problem with this. It was like wokefest 2018:
Whoever gets the most likes is the Woke MVP.
But what these people didn’t think about was days like today. The superintendent, who previously called her subordinate “brave” for disrupting the school year, isn’t saying a word about why a police presence is at the school, and why their principal doesn’t have to go to work even though there have been zero credible threats. But hey, they’re tolerant and accepting, which obviously matters more than facts, science, and their children’s right to an uninterrupted education.
A lot of people from Swampscott have messaged us and told us that the principal was in danger of not being retained and that this was all a play to make sure they couldn’t fire him. After all, if he decided that he was a she then he was untouchable. You could never fire someone after that. Not in today’s world. Here’s one comment:

The bottom line is there are no threats to the school. The police and superintendent have confirmed that. So why isn’t he working? The school is now flooded with Boston news vans and a heavy police presence. How are kids supposed to learn in an environment like this? How are they supposed to keep from being distracted when they look out the window and see this? How are they supposed to learn the English language when they’re forced to call their male principal “they?” How about we just let kids be kids for once, instead of jamming bullshit disguised as social justice down their throats?
If everything you do as an educator doesn’t start with asking yourself, “what will be most helpful to the students,” then you have no business being in education. And clearly this man wants students and parents to focus on HIM, and saying and doing the things that make HIM comfortable, instead of vice versa.

Say whatever you want about the Catholic Church as a whole but parochial schools don’t allow this sort of warped deviant behavior from its teachers and admins. The kids say the pledge, run the flag up the pole each morning and focus on LEARNING how to read and write rather than this social engineering buffoonery being orchestrated by Swampscott’s school board.

I have to say this does reek of bs. I think people shoild do whatever makes them happy. But if your educating young children this circus seems like a shitty way to transition. This is why I think this is a scam.
If you truely wanted to be a good example and take self care while navigating an identity crisis, you would take a medical leave and get your shit together before trying to guide young people. You wouldn’t call a press conference.
Proper way to do this would be to start dressing more androgynously. Grow your hair. Wax your face. Go on summer break. Make announcement and have private parent meeting. Go from there.

“We” are not amused. “We” are open minded enough (libertarian or don’t give a fuck) to let you do what you want for the most part. “We” do believe that you have the right to screw yourself up. “We” believe that if you do screw yourself up you shouldn’t rely on society to clean you up for the issues they got into.

I contend that the appropriate pronoun to use here is “it”. And I would be very concerned about sending my kids to a school where the principal is having such a major identity crisis in public. The police presence tells me that the kids in that school are in danger because of this principal’s behavior — not that the principal itself would hurt the kids (notice my charitable use of “itself” here), but that the principal’s behavior would attract nutcases from all over who may be a danger to the kids. And then there’s the loss of instructional time when the kids are distracted from their true reasons to be at school, which is to learn the necessary skills to become productive citizens.
Both of my kids are college graduates with advanced degrees and very well-paid jobs, so my husband and I must have done something right. But just a couple of nights ago we were talking about the things we now feel we should have done while our kids were younger. One thing we would not have done is send our kids to a school like the one in this story. The kids attending the school in this story are having their futures jeopardized for the sake of “political correctness”
And finally, though there’s no outright indication that it (the principal) is physically dangerous to anyone but itself, the failure of the school administration and the local police to let the parents know what’s going on really concerns me. Screwed-up adults shouldn’t be screwing up children. That’s the height of selfishness.

During childhood development children look up to people of authority like Principals to help them evolve and learn. Boys may relate to a male Principal where as girls need a female Principal. This Principal simply wants what’s best for all of the children.
He can kick the fuck out of a soccer ball and then sit on the bench and knit a sweater between innings.

I really, really fear for my kids if this is what steals the spotlight in a friggen elementary school. They’ve got enough stress learning how to tie their shoes and read and all that shit. Media and police at school now distracting them because one person wants to broadcast his personal life all over the place. Redic.
